We’ve already reviewed Amazon Basics 2-Port car charger and their 16,100mAh power bank.

Both of them had their faults and we expected more from the giant that is Amazon; Since the chargers met the basics and fell under the basics of what they should deliver.

This time, we’re reviewing this Amazon Basics wall charger that has 6-Ports and could rise above Amazon’s Basic title of being just basic.

Output Charging:

The first thing about this wall charger that you’ll notice is the 6 charging ports and you can potentially charge 6 devices at the same time.

This wall charger is meant for someone that intends to charge many devices at once, or this wall charger can have many charging cables connected to it so charging cables are prepared to charge when the user wants to charge their device.

Of course, the next most important thing about having so many ports is the charging speed that you’re able to get from it.

The wall charger can deliver an output charging speed of 5V/2.4A throughout each of its charging ports. With that said, though, the wall charger has a max output of 12 Amps.

This isn’t something to fret about, though, because the wall charger can deliver a max charging output of 5V/2.4A with each of its ports even if you have 5 iPads connected to the wall charger.

Powerful Max Output Charging

This is because iPads can charge at 2.4 Amps and by charging 5 iPads simultaneously, it will bring the total Amp output of the wall charger to 12 Amps which meets the maximum charging output that the Amazon Basics wall charger is capable of.

Adding another device to a 5 iPad situation would then make the max charging speed of each port to become 5V/2.0A since the max output has been exceeded and the only way to meet the max charging output is to make the output of the charging ports at 2 Amps.

Overall, even with the charging speed going to 2 Amps with each port when the maximum output speed is reached, which can be quite rare, a charging speed of 2 Amps still falls into a moderately fast charging category.

The Amazon Basics wall charger meets the power expectations that we should expect from a wall charger, not only that, but this wall charger with 6 ports is still able to deliver a fast charging experience. It stands head to head with other wall chargers like the PowerPort 6.

Size and Weight:

The best word to describe this wall charger is that it’s very basic and that’s not a problem.

The wall charger is 4 inches in length, 2.6 inches in width, and is 1.1 inches thick. It’s got the general size that you’d expect from a wall charger that has 6 charging ports, so nothing is surprising there.

Of course, there aren’t any plug pins installed into the wall charger because it would be useless since the wall charger would be sagging down and fall out if it were connected to a wall outlet.

Instead, the 6 port USB wall charger uses a power cord that’s 5 feet long so you can conveniently plug it into a wall outlet or surge protector and place the wall charger wherever you’d like.

It’s a great wall charger if you want to have more freedom while charging your device with wall charger since wall chargers are known to be quite limiting since you have to be close to the charger.

Instead, you can bring this wall charger more towards you because of the power cord and along with your charging cable that’s hopefully 6 feet or longer; this wall charger can give you a very liberal feel while using it.

Functional Components:

If you want to travel with this wall charger, it’s not a problem. The wall charger itself is small enough to fit into nearly any handbag and you’d just have to keep track of the power cord.

However, if you want a more loose and carefree traveling experience with a smaller wall charger, then we recommend going with a wall charger with less charging ports because wall chargers with 5 ports and above tend to be this bulky and require a power cord for the best experience.

The wall charger has a blue LED light that turns on when the wall charger is plugged into an outlet. It’s a good thing to have because you may want to know where the wall charger is in a dark setting. It’s surprisingly not that bright and doesn’t obstruct sleeping.

Lastly, the biggest design flaw with the Amazon Basics wall charger is that it makes sounds.

It’s not exactly a loud sound, but if you’re charging 4 devices or more at the same time, then the wall charger tends to make a hissing sound.

Although the LED light isn’t obtrusive, this sound can be and it can be a deal-breaker for someone that doesn’t even expect there to be sounds coming from a wall charger. I find this to be quite a surprise myself.

Build

Structure and Material:

The material of the wall charger is plastic and is well built, or at least it’s built to the same standards as other 6-port wall chargers. The Amazon Basics wall charger has a uni-body center and two panels.

The first panel is where the 6 charging ports are installed and the other is where the power cord plug is. It’s a good design that transfers over to being a great build.

Going into the internals of the wall charger, the 6-port wall charger has the necessary safety technology when there are this many charging ports.

It features temperature control which is important for when there are a lot of devices connected to the wall charger since there’s a lot of Amp current being generated there’s a lot of heat. If the wall charger is getting too hot, then it will decrease the amount of Amp current that it’s outputting.

We think that this is an awesome and completely logical feature to have since it keeps your devices, the wall charger, and you safe from a fire. Sure, it does decrease charging speed if things become too heated but it’s worth it.

Tech:

The wall charger also features over-current protection which is useful if the wall charger is outputting too much current to a device. Although this is more of a way to let you know that the wall charger can adapt what charging speed your device requires.

Reliability

The reliability of this wall charger is where it starts. The 6-port wall charger can provide a fast charging experience for either 1 device or 6 devices all at the same time.

Ultimately its reliability is highly expansive depending on how you use it. Even if you plan on charging devices that can charge at 2.4A charging speed, the wall charger does a great job with charging at 2 Amps.

Otherwise, in nearly every charging variable, this wall charger can deliver a possible output of 2.4 Amps, which is the max standard charging speed.

We think that this wall charger is ideal for people that want to have a very constant and easy charging experience.

That’s because no one has to unplug their charging cable or someone else’s charging cable to charge their device. Rather, they can leave their charging cable in the wall charger because of its 6 ports, so there’s plenty of options of who that can be connected to the charging hub at the same time.

Summary

Power:

Its strongest point, the power of the Amazon Basics wall charger is powerful because each of its ports can deliver a charging speed of 5V/2.4A until it reaches a maximum charging output of 12 Amps; In that case, the wall charger then lowers down to 5V/2.0A charging speed per port.

Design:

The Wall charger’s shape, size, and weight are all that you’d expect from a wall charger of its capabilities.

It uses a power cord and that means you can put it where it’s more convenient for you. There’s a LED light on the wall charger that lights up when it’s connected to an outlet.

Although everything about the Amazon Basic’s wall charger is solid, it makes a hissing noise if you’re charging many devices at the same time and this can be very disruptive if you’re sleeping or working in a quiet environment.

Build:

It’s a solid build even with the wall charger being made of plastic, but it’s more about how the structure is put together.

There are just the uni-body center and the two panels that are located where the charging ports are and where the power cord plugs into. The wall charger also has very necessary safety tech features such as Temperature control and Current control to tame this 6-Port wall charger.

Reliability:

This charger’s reliability begins with just a single device and it can grow its reliance 5 more times because it’s capable of charging 6 devices at the same time.

The power capabilities of the charger don’t want too much even when it’s pushed to the limits.
