At this point, the computer has been perfected, and what I mean by that is a PC can take nearly any form factor you can imagine. When consumers think of a computer, they usually think of a desktop computer or a laptop; however, mini PCs can be useful if you want to save space, have easier portability, and still have excellent performance.

As strange as it sounds, I’m reviewing this ACEMAGICIAN AMR5 Mini Gaming PC. It’s exactly what it sounds like, with this being a small desktop computer with some pretty good specs and port options, and of course, you can easily take this computer anywhere you want. Gaming laptops could be an alternative to a device like this but they are also much more expensive. Let’s take a closer look.

What’s in the Box?

What you get in the box is pretty minimal, and that’s fine because this is truly a mini-computer, so having more cables would complicate things. The box includes the ACEMAGICIAN AMR5 gaming PC, the power brick, an HDMI cable, and the manual. That’s it. So the power brick allows you to power the computer, and the HDMI cable lets you connect the computer to a monitor.

Hardware Specs for the ACEMAGICIAN AMR5

The hardware specs for the AMR5 mini PC are good for it having such small size. This specific model of the AMR5 that I’m reviewing has an AMD Ryzen 5 5600U processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB SSD.

Of course, this cannot be compared to full-sized desktop computers or gaming laptops; at least, that’s my opinion because everything has to fit into the small size of this mini-computer. That said, the specs of the ACEMAGICIAN gaming PC are good; heck, I’d even say they’re great.

How Does it Perform?

Alright, I must start by saying that this mini PC works great for general work or browsing. So having multiple tabs open in a browser is smooth; working in programs such as Word, Excel, Google Docs, and more are things this AMR5 can handle easily.

When it comes to video editing, which I did a bit of in Davinci Resolve, this mini-computer can handle it just enough. However, I would limit video editing to 1080p resolution videos, as this computer is not powerful enough for 4K editing, which is expected.

Can you Play Videogames on ACEMAGICIAN Mini Gaming PC?

The answer is, yes, you can play video games on this mini-computer, but you will need to tone down the graphical settings substantially. I’m talking about having most graphic settings set to Low or Medium, but in my testing, I’ve found that you can get by if you leave the resolution to 1920 x 1080. For my testing, I played Forza Horizon 4 and another game called Lonely Mountains Downhill; both are available on Xbox PC Game Pass when writing this review, just in case you’re wondering how I played them.

Also, just a quick note, I could easily download Steam and the Xbox app on this AMR5 mini PC, although I didn’t play anything on Steam.

For Forza Horizon 4, some settings were Medium, and some were set to Low; I had the resolution set to 1920 x 1080p, V-Sync was on, Motion Blur was off, and for the most part, the game ran in 45-50 FPS range. I ran a benchmark for Horizon 4, and with my graphical settings, I could average around 47 FPS with the game; considering that the game was still running at 1080p with some settings on Medium, this is very impressive. It’s also important to know that Forza Horizon 4 is a well-optimized PC game that can run on nearly anything half capable.

The one other game I tested was Lonely Mountains Downhill. This was a very simple-looking game with simple controls, and I kept most of the graphical settings on Medium with a resolution set to 1920 x 1080. The game mostly ran at 60 FPS but occasionally dipped down when I would be biking down the hill very quickly.

Overall, I can say that this ACEMAGICIAN AMR5 mini PC can be called a gaming PC, but within reason. If you plan on mainly using this computer to play video games, then you must set your expectations accordingly. I would not recommend playing heavy graphical games because even within low settings, this PC may not be able to handle it very well, but those well-optimized light graphical games are great to play with a mini PC like this one.

Design and Port Connectivity

As I’ve said throughout this review, this is a small PC with a length of 5 inches, a width of 2.8 inches, and a height of 6.1 inches. The PC weighs 3 pounds. So you can easily unplug everything from it and move it anywhere with a single hand.

At the front of the AMR5 gaming PC is where you’ll find a USB-C port, two USB-A ports, and the headphone jack. Also, at the front is where you’ll find the dial knob that lets you change the power setting for the PC. The three settings include Silent, Auto, and Performance modes. Each power mode uses a different amount of power, with Silent mode using the least and keeping the PC quiet; an Auto mode changes power needs depending on usage, and the Performance mode maxes out the power of the AMR5 PC.

So I highly recommend using the Performance mode for gaming and Auto mode for everything else. Or you can keep Performance mode at all times if you want the PC to perform the best it can.

At the back of the AMR5 PC is where you’ll find the two USB-A ports, two HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, and the power input port.

Off to the right of the PC is a removable cover that is held by magnets, and inside, you can see the LED lights, and this is also where you can add up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, and you can also add two M.2 2280 NVME / NGFF SSDs up 4TB. So storage and RAM upgradability are available even with such a small gaming PC.

Conclusion

If you want a small but powerful mini gaming PC, this ACEMAGICIAN AMR5 PC is a good choice. I think calling it a gaming PC is just a marketing term because you can play video games, and they will perform well if you have the settings low enough.

That said, solely calling this a “gaming” PC limits it. This AMR5 is an all-around great mini desktop computer that can be used as a daily-use type of computer for working and general media usage, with gaming being an option. The specs, such as the Ryzen 5 5600U CPU, an SSD, and 16GB DDR4 RAM, do a great job of keeping up with most use cases.
