Wireless charging has spread to many portable devices; nearly every phone is now compatible with wireless charging. However, there are now earbud cases that can wirelessly charge, as well as smartwatches, specifically the Apple Watch. If you’re an iPhone user and own accessories such as the Airpods or an Apple Watch, you may consider having an all-in-one wireless charger.
This review looks at this ALOGIC Matrix 3 in 1 magnetic charging dock. You can charge three devices at the same time, and that would include your phone, AirPods case, and an Apple Watch with this charger. Let’s take a closer look.
Charging Power
So the wireless charger for your phone, found at the front of the charger, is the fastest. The charging stands part can output 5W, 7.5W, 10W, and 15W, depending on what device you’re charging. In my testing, I could charge an iPhone 12 with the front wireless charger, meaning my iPhone 12 was charging at 15W because the iPhone 12, 13, and 14 have a 15W MagSafe charging rate.
Also, thanks to the included Magnetic attachment, if you have an Android phone, you can stick the magnet to the back of your phone, making it possible to have your phone magnetically attached to the charging stand. For my testing, I could place the magnet at the back of my Note 9 and place the Note 9 on the charging stand, just as I did with my iPhone 12. My Note 9 could fast wireless charge, charging at about 10W.
When it comes to the charging pad at the back that’s meant for charging an AirPods case, the pad has a 5W charge rate. Since I didn’t have any Airpods to use this charging pad with, I used my Note 9 to charge from it and could standard wireless charge from it while I also charged my iPhone 12 from the charging stand.
The Apple Watch charger in the box is a separate part of the charger, and you have to plug it into the side USB-C port on the charging stand. The Apple Watch charging pad has a 2W charge rate.
One of the best things about this Matrix charging stand is that it comes with a 30W wall charger and a USB-C to USB-C cable, so right out of the box, you can power this wireless charger at max power.
Design
This 3 in 1 wireless charger is small; even with all the charging pads, I assure you, you will have space to place this charger on your desk. At the back of the charger is where you’ll find the back charging pad and the two USB-C ports off to the sides. The back USB-C port is used to power the charger, and the side USB-C port is used to power the Apple Watch charger.
The front charging pad stand is removable but is not a power bank. However, you can remove it and plug in a USB-C to USB-C cable to the charger if you want a more freehand MagSafe charging experience.
What is pretty awesome about this changing stand is that you can use ALOGIC’s Matrix 5,000mAh power bank that I’ve reviewed and place it in place of the original charging pad. When you place a Matrix power bank in the charging stand, it can recharge and charge your phone simultaneously, so that’s a pretty cool feature to implement in this kind of ecosystem of products.
Build Quality
This ALOGIC charger has a great build to it, with some parts made of plastic and others made of Aluminum. It feels like a product made by Apple and performs like one.
