ALOGIC Matrix Universal Magnetic Power Bank 5000mAh
Wireless charging hasn’t been my preferred phone method; the same can be said for most people. Wireless charging can be convenient, but you have to place your phone on a pad, wireless charging is also slower, and overall most people use wired charging. However, wireless charging can be more convenient if you own an iPhone 12, 13, or 14 or any other MagSafe iPhone that has been released.
This review looks at this ALOGIC Matrix magnetic 5,000mAh power bank. This is a pretty awesome wireless charging power bank that is great to use with MagSafe-compatible iPhones. Let’s take a closer look.
Battery Capacity
This is a mini power bank; because of that, you also get a mini capacity with this charger with a 5,000mAh battery capacity. Whether you’re charging the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, or 14, you will mainly end up with one full charge. You can also use the USB-C port to charge your iPhone or other phones, but still, expect one charge from this power bank and then need to recharge it once you’re done using it.
Output Charging
There are two ways to charge from this ALOGIC Matrix power bank: the wireless charging pad and the USB-C port. The wireless charging pad has a 5W, 7.5W, 10W, and 15W charge rate, depending on what device you’re charging. That said, since you’ll likely be using wireless charging with an iPhone 12 or later, you can expect a 15W MagSafe charging speed, which is pretty fast for wireless charging.
The USB-C port on this power bank has an 18W Power Delivery output, which can also be used to charge iPhones, but you will need a USB-C to Lightning cable. You can also use the USB-C port to fast charge most Android phones.
For testing, I charged an iPhone 12 from the wireless charging pad, charging started instantly, and the power bank was attached to the iPhone. With the iPhone wirelessly charging, I plugged my Galaxy Note 9 into the USB-C port, which was standard charged. I then charged my Galaxy Note 9 alone from the USB-C port, and it could fast charge.
Recharging
Recharging for this power bank is done through the USB-C port, and the max recharging speed is 18W, so I recommend using an 18W Power Delivery wall charger to recharge the power bank at its max speed. This power bank is also compatible with ALOGIC’s 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 wireless charger, which lets you dock and recharge it from the charging stand.
Size and Design
The Matrix 5,000mAh power bank is tiny, with just a length of 3 inches, a width of 2 inches, and a thickness of 0.5 inches. The power bank weighs about 4 ounces. When I attached the power bank to my iPhone 12, there was not much weight added, and I could easily hold the phone with the power bank at the back with no problems.
The Matrix power bank is very minimal regarding its functional parts. At the front of the power bank is the wireless charging pad. At the bottom of the power bank are golden connectors used to connect to ALOGIC’s Matrix charging stand. Also at the bottom of the power bank is the USB-C port.
At the top of the power bank is a power button with LED capacity indicators to show how much battery power you have left.
When it comes to the MagSafe magnetic feature, it worked very well with my iPhone 12, and the power bank stayed in place. ALOGIC does include a magnet in the box that you place on your iPhone for better magnetic attachment between the power bank and the iPhone, but I didn’t find it necessary.
Build Quality
This power bank is built very well, with an Aluminum casing around it. You can use this power bank daily, and it feels incredibly premium when the power bank attaches to your MagSafe-compatible iPhone.
