Anker PowerPort C 1 Vs. PowerPort PD 1

(Last Updated On: November 26, 2018)

One of the fastest growing charging technologies on the market is definitely Power Delivery and that’s because Power Delivery is used with the standard of USB-C.

Many devices these days are starting to use USB-C, as it’s becoming the universal standard for charging and connectivity. Android smartphones are now using USB-C, many laptops are using it, and tablets too.

Speaking of tablets making use of USB-C, even the new Apple iPad Pro is using a USB-C port, something that was a rather large change from Apple’s use of its own Lightning port.

With that said, since so many devices are becoming USB-C compatible and at the same time, making use of Power Delivery fast charging, finding a Power Delivery wall charger is imperative.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at two USB-C wall chargers from Anker.

Both of these chargers feature just a single port, and so they’re not the best to get if you want to charge more than one device at a time. However, for minimal and powerful charging, either the PowerPort C 1 or the PowerPort PD 1 can be of great use.

Anker PowerPort C 1 Wall Charger

So the Anker PowerPort C 1 wall charger is basically like a standard USB-A wall charger. The reason for that is because the USB-C port has a charging speed of 15W or 3 Amps.

As a result, the PowerPort C 1 does not feature Power Delivery but instead just makes use of standard USB-C charging. You won’t be able to fast charge Power Delivery USB-C smartphones with this wall charger.

That said, if you want a simple but effective USB-C charging option for a USB-C smartphone, then this PowerPort C 1 wall charger is useful.

It’s not useful for charging larger USB-C devices such as laptops as it either won’t charge them or it’ll charge them at a very slow charging speed.

Specs of the Anker PowerPort C 1 Wall Charger:

  • Output: 15W (3 Amps)
  • Input:  100-240V ~ 1.1A 50-60Hz
  • LED Power Indicator: Single LED Indicator
  • Size: 1.9 x 1.7 x 1.1 inches
  • Weight: 1.7 Ounces

Anker PowerPort PD 1 Wall Charger

The PowerPort PD 1 charger, on the other hand, is a more useful wall charger if you have a Power Delivery compatible smartphone or tablet.

Power Delivery compatible smartphones such as the Google Pixel 3, Essential Phone, iPhone XS and other compatible phones can fast charge with the USB-C port.

Of course, with the iPhone XS and other Power Delivery compatible iPhones, you’d have to use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable.

When it comes to charging Power Delivery compatible tablets, then this wall charger also works quite well, too.

The difference between this PowerPort PD 1 and the PowerPort C 1 is that the charging speed from the wall charger is 18W. Which is the starting power of Power Delivery.

However, when it comes to charging Power Delivery compatible laptops, then this wall charger can charge only a few. In fact, we think that it’s really only best to assume that this charger can charge the USB-C MacBook, as the MacBook can also change with a standard 15W USB-C port.

Specs of the Anker PowerPort PD 1 Wall Charger:

  • Output: 5V/3A | 9V/2A
  • Input: 100 – 240V ~ 1.1A 50 – 60Hz
  • LED Power Indicator: Single Power Indicator
  • Size: 2.0 × 1.72 × 1.1 inches
  • Weight: 2.1 Ounces
