Best Chargers for Acer R13 / Chromebook 14 / Switch Alpha 12 Laptops

(Last Updated On: April 30, 2018)

USB-C Power Delivery charging is spreading very rapidly. No longer do all laptops on the market have to use a DC connection for charging and thankfully, there are now ones that are making use of the new standard that is USB-C. The benefit of this is that you can charge a USB-C compatible device and USB-C compatible laptop with the same charger. Bonus points if your smartphone is also Power Delivery compatible. Quite a few Android smartphones are Power Delivery compatible, too. So look into it.

However, when it comes to Power Delivery charging for laptops, you have to be careful about what Power Delivery charger you purchase. There are some USB-C laptops that all they need is a 30W power output to charge and you’re good to go. Something like Apple’s MacBook, not their MacBook Pro, just their base MacBook that uses USB-C Power Delivery.

However, there are some laptops on the market that require more than just the average 30W charging speed, and Acer USB-C laptops are some of them. The laptops that we’re talking about are Acer’s USB-C Power Delivery laptops: the Acer R13 / their Chromebook 14 model and also the Switch Alpha 12 laptop.

What all these laptops have in common is that they require a 45W USB-C Power Delivery charger that has an output power of 20V/2.25A. Or you can use a PD charger that goes higher than 45W. This is something specific that some might miss if you’re simply going to the market and just purchasing the first Power Delivery wall charger that you find.

However, we here at Charger Harbor have chosen the best chargers for the Acer R13, the Chromebook 14 and the Switch Alpha 12 laptops. So you’re able to charge them with a third party charger if you’ve lost your original or if you want to charge them with a portable charger.

Best Portable Chargers for Acer R13 / Chromebook 14 / Switch Alpha 12 Laptops

The one major benefit when it comes to USB-C Power Delivery charging is that you’re able to use a portable charger with laptops. Whereas in the past, when it came to charging laptops, you’d have to rely on a DC charging brick and make sure that you’re sitting close to an AC outlet to charge your laptop. That’s not necessary anymore because there are Power Delivery portable chargers that can charge your laptop wherever you are. Without compromise.

That said, there are currently just a few portable chargers on the market that make use of ample Power Delivery charging power that can charge these Acer laptops.

Satechi 75W 4-Port Desktop Charging Station

These other two chargers that we have to recommend are actually desktop charging stations. This means that they have more ports and they use a power cord, instead of a built-in AC adapter.

There are four ports on this Satechi charging station, with one being the USB-C Power Delivery port and the other three are USB-A ports. One of the USB-A ports uses Quick Charge and the other two USB ports have a 5V/2.4A standard charging speed. The USB-C Power Delivery port on this charger has a 60W output. This is very well above the power requirements of what the Acer R13, Chromebook 14 and Switch Alpha 12 laptops require. So, this charger is able to charge all of those laptops with no problems.

Overall, this Satechi charger features a lot and because of that, if you can find a use for the other three ports, especially the Quick Charge port, then we highly recommend purchasing it.

That’s because this charger has three USB-A ports that each share a 12W power output. While the other 60W of this charger is reserved for the USB-C Power Delivery port.

So using all three of the USB-A ports at the same time that you’re using the Power Delivery port is possible, it’s just that they’re going to output slow charging speeds if you’re charging three devices at once with them.
