Best Chargers for the Essential Phone

(Last Updated On: May 10, 2019)

Actually uses Power Delivery

Perhaps one of the main misconceptions when it comes to charging the Essential phone is that it uses Quick Charge.

The Essential Phone does in fact NOT use Quick Charge and this isn’t too much of a bad thing and that’s because it uses Power Delivery. Power Delivery is used with USB-C charging and it’s a more powerful method of charging.

Essential made a better choice with using Power Delivery because it’s going to be the more standard method of charging across nearly all portable devices in the future.

So if you’re having trouble with what the best chargers are to use for the Essential phone, as we’ve brought together all the types of chargers that are best to purchase. Most of these chargers use Power Delivery and therefore you’re able to charge your phone at its max charging speed.

That said, it’s important to own a USB-C to USB-C charging cable to charge your phone at its max charging speed as that’s the only way to take advantage of PD charging.

Best Portable Chargers for the Essential PH-1 Smartphone

Using a portable charger with your smartphone is a great idea and that’s because you never know how much you’re going to be using your phone while you’re out and about.

That said, chances are that you’re going to be using your phone a lot and as a result, the battery is going to run out very quickly and that can leave you with a dead phone.

The power banks that we’ve chosen for you to use with your Essential phone are ones that are able to charge it to full power at least once, and some of them use Power Delivery which is great if you want to charge it at its max charging speed while you’re on the move.

Tronsmart Presto Power Bank with USB-C and Quick Charge 3.0

This Tronsmart Presto power bank is one of the best options to choose from on the market for charging your Essential phone with, as it has a 10,400mAh power capacity. It’s with that capacity that you’re able to charge your Essential Phone to its full power about two times.

This type of capacity is also perfect for charging another person’s smartphone too, as there’s enough capacity to go around.

Even though we’re recommending you to use this charger for the Essential Phone, it doesn’t use Power Delivery. The reason that we’re adding chargers on here that don’t use Power Delivery is because the ones that do use PD simply have a higher price point. Recommending portable chargers and other chargers that don’t use Power Delivery is a way to offset the higher price options that you have.

No Power Delivery but still Versatile

There are two charging outputs ports with this Tronsmart Presto portable charger. It has a single USB-A charging port that uses Quick Charge 3.0 and if you’re charging Non-Quick Charge devices with it, then it’ll output 5V/2.4A.

However, you’re going to want to use the second port with your phone, and that’s because it’s a USB-C port.

The USB-C port on this power bank has a charging speed of 5V/3.0A, and of course, you’re going to need a USB-C to USB-C cable to use this charger and take advantage of that charging speed.

It’s not Power Delivery charging power, but it’s enough to charge your Essential at a noticeably faster rate than standard USB-A charging is able to do.

Recharging this power bank is also done through the USB-C port, and it has a 5V/3.0A recharge rate.

RAVPower 20100 Portable Charger with Quick Charge and USB-C

pic-12

The final power bank that we want to recommend without Power Delivery before we do actually dive into Power Delivery portable chargers is this RAVPower one.

It has a high power capacity 20,100mAh and it’s with this capacity that you’re going to be able to charge your smartphone to its full power about four times.

This is the type of capacity that you’re not solely going to use to charge your Essential Phone (or you might) but it can also be utilized to charge other devices to full power such as tablets or you can charge multiple phones at once to their full power.

Since this power bank has quite a few charging ports.

Three Ports to Use

There are a total of three ways to charge your devices with this power bank. The first two ways are the two USB-A charging ports. You have one port that uses Quick Charge 3.0 and then you have another port that has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A.

The third output port is the USB-C port that has a charging speed of 5V/3.0A and that’s basically the charging speed that most USB-C ports without PD have. It’s not quite Power Delivery charging, but at the same time, it’s faster than 2.4 Amp charging with USB-A charging ports.

Micro-USB Input Features Quick Charge

There are also two input ports that you can use to recharge this power bank, but something to keep in mind is that you can only use one at a time. There’s the USB-C port that has a recharge rate of 5V/3.0A and then there’s the Micro-USB input port that uses Quick Charge 3.0 to recharge.

It’s best to use the Micro-USB input port for recharging this power bank because you can use a Quick Charge wall charger and recharge it at a much faster rate.

Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 Power Delivery Charger

Jumping into Power Delivery portable chargers head-on brings us this Anker PowerCore Speed 20,000mAh charger. It has a good amount of power capacity that’s going to be able to charge your Essential phone about four times if all you’re doing is charging your phone with it.

Of course, the main event of this charger is the charging that comes with it. There are just two output charging ports with this power bank and that would be a single USB-A port and the USB-C port.

The USB-A port on this charger is only capable of 5V/2.0A charging and though we expected more, it makes sense to have slow charging with the USB-A port because the USB-C port is able to output lots more power.

So yes, the USB-C port is one that’s capable of Power Delivery charging and that’s because it’s capable of outputting 22.5W of Power.

As a result, you’re able to charge your Essential phone much faster than standard USB-C charging that uses 15W of power. Just something to know that 22.5W of charging power is still not enough to charge your Essential phone at its max charging speed.

Comes with a USB-C Wall Charger

In fact, you’re going to need a charger that’s capable of outputting 27W with its USB-C Power Delivery port. The good news is that this Anker portable charger actually comes with a USB-C 30W Wall charger and can, therefore, charge your Essential phone at its max charging speed.

Another part where USB-C Power Delivery charging is prevalent is the recharging of this power bank. You can actually recharge this power bank using a C to C connection with a wall charger that comes with it and recharges it at Power Delivery speeds that result in a full recharge time of 4 hours only.

RAVPower 26800 PD Portable Charger with 2 USB-A Charging Ports

Another portable charger that’s from a well-known brand on the market is from RAVPower. This RAVPower power bank has a power capacity of 26,800 and can potentially charge the Essential phone to its full power about 5 times.

Of course, it’s with this amount of power capacity that you’re going to want to use this charger to charge other devices to full power as well; such as tablets or even larger devices such as laptops. The reason that I brought up laptops is that quite a few laptops have begun using USB-C for charging such as the MacBook and also Chromebooks too.

Charging with this power bank is going to be a great experience as it has a total of three output ports to charge your devices. There are two USB-A charging ports with each of them having a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and the total output of the USB-A port section of this charger is 3.4A.

Then there’s the USB-C port that’s capable of Power Delivery charging and it’s able to output 30W of power. As a result, you’re able to charge your MacBook at its max charging speed, as well as an Essential phone as it fits beyond the max powering range.

Two Input Ports

Recharging this power bank can be done through one of the two input ports of this charger. It has a single Micro-USB input port and it also has the USB-C port which can also be used to recharge it. Recharging this RAVPower portable charger through its USB-C port is the best recharge method.

The reason for that is because it’s capable of recharging at Power Delivery speeds, but that can only be done if you’re using a Power Delivery USB-C wall charger.

This power bank doesn’t come with a USB-C wall charger, but if you choose to get one then we recommend using this charger.

That said, you can always just use the Micro-USB input port to recharge it, but that will result in a much slower recharging speed of 5V/2.0A.

Aukey 26,500mAh Power Bank with Power Delivery and Quick Charge

The final portable charger that we have to recommend for the Essential phone is very similar to the Power Delivery RAVPower one and also the Anker one. As it has a very high power capacity of 26,500mAh that’s enough to charge most smartphones about 5-6 times and it’s great for charging larger devices to their full power a few times too.

Quick Charge along with Power Delivery

There are two USB-A charging ports, and surprisingly, one of the USB-A ports uses Quick Charge and can, therefore, charge compatible devices at their max charging speed. The other port has standard charging of 5V/2.4A to charge most standard devices at their max charging speed.

Then there’s the USB-C port that’s able to output 30W of charging power which can charge the Essential PH-1 at its max charging speed, as well as larger devices such as MacBooks/Chromebooks that also use USB-C.

Recharging with this portable charger can be done through two input ports, but can only be used one at a time. With one being the USB-C port that uses Power Delivery when you use a Power Delivery wall charger with it.

Or you can use the Micro-USB input port which has a recharge rate of 5V/2.0A.

This power bank does not come with a USB-C 30W wall charger so you will have to purchase one yourself.

Best USB Wall Chargers for the Essential Phone

The basis of charging all begins with USB wall chargers as they mostly come with new devices that we get such as smartphones and tablets.

Thankfully, the Essential Phone actually comes with a Power Delivery charger and so if you’re content with that, you can skip this section.

However, if you’re somebody that has a broken charger, lost the original charger or want more USB charging ports while still having the Power Delivery power, then take a look at our picks for some of the best Power Delivery wall chargers for the Essential Phone.

Anker Power Delivery USB-C 30W Wall Charger

Anker actually offers a Power Delivery wall charger that uses a single USB-C charging port, and it’s a perfect replacement if your current one is no longer doing you any good.

The reason for that is because this charger has the bare minimum of what Power Delivery wall chargers can offer and that would its use of a single USB-C port.

Simple but Powerful

The charger is able to output 30W of charging power and can, therefore, charge your Essential phone its max charging speed.

It’s also perfect for charging larger devices that use Power Delivery charging such as laptops and you can also use it to charge the Nintendo Switch as it also uses USB-C for charging.

Design wise, this charger is another great reason to purchase it as it has a retractable AC adapter that folds into the wall charger itself and therefore makes the charger square. So it can make portability with it a lot easier for traveling.

There are no USB-A charging ports, so you won’t be able to charge more than a single device, so you’re mostly purchasing this device for the Power Delivery charging.

  • Output: 30W
  • Input:

Overall, the charger is capable of outputting 60W of power. The USB-C Power Delivery port is able to output 30W of power while the other 30W is based on the USB-A charging ports. Each of the USB-A ports is able to output a charging speed of 5V/2.4A which is great for standard devices.
