Best Chargers for the Kindle / Kindle PaperWhite / Voyage / Oasis

(Last Updated On: July 3, 2020)

The Kindle is a very famous tablet and it might very well be the most purchased tablet on the market besides Apple’s iPad. The main reason for the Kindle selling so well? It’s an E-Reader. That’s all there is to it, as it’s a device that you read books from, and of course, it has a few tools that can assist you with some vocabulary and some other cool tech features.

Other than that though, this isn’t something like an iPad or a Galaxy tablet that lets you watch videos or play video games.

It’s a wireless device that allows you to have access to literally of hundreds of books with just a single device. That’s the beauty of the Kindle, as you can have all your favorite books and all the books that you still have to read on it and take it with you anywhere.

With all that said, since the Kindle is a portable device, it’s going to need charging sooner or later, and even though it’s just an E-reader device that doesn’t use lots of power at all, it will still need recharging.

That is why it’s good to know what are the best chargers to use with your Kindle, and whether it’s a Kindle, Kindle PaperWhite, Voyage, or an Oasis model, all of which could use a good charger once they need recharging.

Battery for Each Kindle Model

The power capacity of each of the Kindles is different though, so take a look below to see what each of the Kindle tablets has to offer with their batteries.

Kindle – 1,530mAh

Kindle PaperWhite – 1,470mAh

Kindle Voyage – 1,320mAh

Kindle Oasis – 1,535mAh

Yes, all of the power capacities of all the Kindle versions are very low and as I stated before, it’s mainly because the Kindle doesn’t take too much power to run.

Also, the max charging speed for a Kindle is 5V/1.8A. So the chargers that are on this list are ones that have charge speeds that are either 5V/2.0A or above with their USB charging ports.

Let’s get started with the most important charger that you could use with your Kindle and that would be a portable charger.

Chargers in this Guide:

Portable Chargers for the Kindle

A portable charger is a great charging electronic not only for the Kindle but for portable devices that can be charged through a USB port. As you can charge and use your device while you’re on-the-go and not be held down by a wall charger.

Anker PowerCore 10000

pic-1

One of the simplest and yet the most useful types of portable chargers on the market currently. This PowerCore 10000 portable charger from Anker is one best selling 10,000mAh power bank on Amazon. The reason that it’s selling so well is that the quality of this charger is really good.

Of course, it has a 10,000mAh power capacity and that’s able to charge most Kindle tablets to their full power about 6 times.

If you’re wondering why this charger can’t charge at Kindle a few more times, well that’s because power is lost during charging because the conversion of energy happens from the power bank to your device and some energy is lost when it passes through the cable.

That said, 6 charges for a Kindle is really good and should keep you charged up and in constant use of your handy E-Reader for a few days.

Small Size and Lots of Power

The major part the PowerCore 10000 is sold very well is because of its size. This is a 10,000mAh portable charger and yet it has a length of 3.6 inches, and a thickness of 0.9 inches. The weight of this charger is 6.4 ounces. This charger can fit into a pocket or you can hold it in your hands while you charge your Kindle and use it.

This something that is not very common with too many other portable chargers, as this PowerCore 10000 is the same size as a 5,000mAh power bank.

Also, the use of a single USB port might seem quite unusual with a charger that has a 10,000mAh power capacity but it’s what keeps it small; another reason to have a single USB port is that it offers more power to the sole device that you’re charging.

In this case, it would be a Kindle and since the PowerCore 10000 has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A, a Kindle can charge at its max charging speed with this portable charger.

Pros for Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger

  • Has a very small form factor that can fit into a pocket easily
  • A single port that has a 2.4A fast standard charging speed
  • Includes a Micro-USB cable
  • 10,000mAh power capacity that can be enough for a few full charges

Cons for Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger

  • Only has a single port, so you can only charge a single device at a time

RAVPower 16,750mAh Power Bank

If you’re searching for even more power to use on your Kindle and at the same time have portable power for another device as well. Then this RAVPower 16,750mAh power bank is very useful because it has lots of power to charge a Kindle to its full power many times over, and for charging other devices as well.

The reason that I keep bringing up other charging other devices is that this power bank has two USB ports. So you can charge one port with the Kindle and charge the other port with another tablet or a smartphone at the same time.

Standard Charging

One USB port has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and then the other port has a charging speed of 5V/2.1A. The max output of the power bank is 4.5A.

It doesn’t matter what port you use your Kindle as it’ll charge at its max speed with either of USB charging ports; however, we do recommend that you use the 5V/2.1A port with your Kindle, just in case you charge a more powerful device so you can use it with the 2.4A charging port.

The great part about the charging portion of this power bank is that you can use the max power of each of the ports at the same time.

A Little Something Extra and the Power Ahead

This portable charger also has a flashlight.

Two other major types of portable chargers from RAVPower is their 22,000mAh power bank that has 3 USB charging ports and each of the ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A. RAVPower also has a 32,000mAh portable charger that also has 3-USB charging ports.

These two other power banks might seem like overkill when it comes to charging just a Kindle but makes sense to get those chargers if you plan on charging other devices as well.

Pros for RAVPower 16,750mAh Power Bank

  • Higher mid-range power capacity that provides even more full charges
  • Has two ports, so you can charge two devices at the same time
  • Comes with two Micro-USB cables
  • Has an LED flashlight

Cons for RAVPower 16,750mAh Power Bank

  • Does not come with a wall charger
  • Does not feature a fast charging Quick Charge port

Of course, since nearly every Kindle version has a low power capacity, it only makes sense to also consider getting a power bank that has a low power capacity. These types of portable chargers still have enough power capacity to recharge a Kindle to its full power at least once or maybe even twice.

Pros for Anker PowerCore 5000 Mini Power Bank

  • Very small form factor
  • Has a single port that can output a 2A charging speed, which is fast for a mini power bank
  • Comes with a Micro-USB cable
  • The power bank can be recharged at 2A with a 2A wall charger

Cons for Anker PowerCore 5000 Mini Power Bank

  • The 5,000mAh power capacity may only be good for charging Kindle to full power about two times only

  • Weight: 4.8 ounces
  • 18-month warranty

The two Mini power banks that you should consider getting are either the PowerCore 5000 or the PowerCore 5000 Slim. Both of these chargers are the same thing, it’s just that they have different form factors.

The form factor of the PowerCore 5000 is the more common cylindrical shape and the form factor of the PowerCore Slim 5000 is, just as the name implies, a Slim power bank.

Other than that, these two power banks have a power capacity of 5,000mAh and they both have a charging speed of 5V/2.0A out of each of their single USB ports. So they can charge a Kindle to its full power about two times and they can also charge a Kindle at its max charging speed too.

These Mini power banks are indeed going to be very useful if you just want a charger that you can be the most portable with and not have to worry about longevity when it comes to its power.

However, if you want a high capacity power bank because you want a portable charger that you can rely on for a longer duration, then we’ve chosen two of the best ones for the Kindle tablet.

EasyAcc Monster 26,000mAh Power Bank

EasyAcc Monster 26,000mAh Power Bank

The first high capacity power bank that we’re recommending is this EasyAcc portable charger. It has a 26,000mAh power capacity and that’s a lot of power capacity to charge a Kindle tablet to its full power many times over, as even the highest capacity Kindle has about a 1,500mAh power capacity.

So you can use this charger without having to recharge it for about a week. That is if all you’re using this power bank for is charging your Kindle. However, there are four USB-A ports on this power bank.

Many Ports to Use

Each of the four ports on this power bank has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and the max output of the charger is 4.8A. So you can use the max power of two ports at the same time while charging four devices at once will split the max output if the devices require more charging power.

A Much Needed Double Input

Also, the recharging for this power bank is as good as the output charging. That’s because there are two Micro-USB input ports on this power bank that each have a 5V/2.0A recharging speed. So you can use both of the input ports at the same time and that will result in a 4A recharging speed.

To top it all off, this power bank also has a flashlight to go with all of its charging power.

Pros for EasyAcc 26,000mAh 3-Port Power Bank

  • Very high 26,000mAh power capacity that can last for a week or more
  • Can charge four devices at the same time

So this charger has a whopping 32,000mAh power capacity that can be useful for charging your Kindle tablet to full power for a week straight or maybe, even more, depending on your usage of this charger.

Tons of Power Capacity and a High Max Output

There are three USB-A ports on this power bank. Each of its ports has a 5V/2.4A charging speed and the max output of the power bank is 6A. So if you’re using the max output of the power bank, then the charging speed of each of the ports will be 5V/2.0A.

To recharge this power bank there’s a Micro-USB input that has a 5V/2.4A max recharging speed. So you should use a 2.4 Amp wall charger to recharge this power bank at its max charging speed.

    • Hey there,

      Thank you for your question.

Devices already have protocols built within them to accept a certain amount of charging power to charge the battery.

As a result, batteries can’t get damaged even if a charger is capable of going over the max charging speed of a certain device.

So the answer to your question is, no, a Quick Charge or Turbo Charger cannot harm a Kindle’s battery life as it’s built to accept as much power as it needs.

Most brands recommend using their chargers only (such as USB wall chargers that come with smartphones and tablets) simply because they want you to spend money on their products. Of course, there are cheap brands on the market to be careful of, but it should be pretty clear on what brands to avoid based on reviews.

      Thank you for your question.

  1. I have just come in possession of Paperwhite
Amazon wrote to tell me I should use only Kindle wall charger
The refuse to ship to South Africa
Now I am stuck. What shall I do.?

    • Hey there,

Thanks for posting and asking your question.

Amazon may have said to only use their wall charger, but that’s the same thing that other companies will say too.

For example, if you message Apple, asking if you could use a different wall charger, then they would say no and say that you should only use an Apple wall charger.

The truth is that you can use any wall charger for recharging a device because that device has built-in parameters to accept a certain amount of charging power. So you can use a Samsung Fast wall charger with an iPhone or iPad.

In this case, you can use any wall charger to recharge your Kindle Paper White.

Thank you for your question and please ask us if you have any further questions.
