Best Fast Chargers for Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip

(Last Updated On: July 15, 2020)

The age of foldable phones is back but in a different way. These are phones that are using foldable screens which is incredibly cool and many brands are racing to create their foldable phone. You’ve already got Motorola in the game with them bringing back the Razr but with a foldable screen, and now Samsung has a very similar phone, the Galaxy Z Flip.

That means, Samsung is now selling two foldable phones, the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip, so they and quite a few other companies think this is the future. That said, a Foldable phone can use a lot of power, especially the Samsung Fold with a massive screen and another small screen at the front of the phone. The Fold and the Z Flip have similar specs with the Z Flip using the newer Snapdragon 855+ and the Fold using the older 855.

The Fold has a larger battery and uses more RAM, with a battery size of 4,380mAh and 12GB of RAM, while the Z Flip has a 3,300mAh battery with 8GB. The only thing missing with these two foldable phones from Samsung is a better fast charging tech. Both of them come with a 15W fast charger and are only able to be fast charged using either a Quick Charge charge or a Power Delivery charger. It doesn’t matter if you use a 60W Power Delivery charger to charge either the Galaxy Fold or the Z Flip, because they will still charge at 15W.

So in this guide, we’re going to be covering the types of chargers that you should aim at getting for fast charging Samsung’s foldable phones at 15W. Some of the chargers in this guide may have more than 15W, but that’s okay, as they will still be able to fast charge the phone.

Chargers in this Guide:

Fast Charging Wall Chargers

A wall charger is probably the type of charger that you use the most. It’s convenient and easy to use as you just plug it into an AC outlet and you’re ready to use it. There are also USB charging stations that can be handy if you want to charge many more devices at the same time. Charging stations also tend to use more power.

Anker PowerPort Speed 2 Wall Charger

PowerPort Speed 2 Quick Charge USB Wall Charger

This Anker PowerPort Speed 2 wall charger has two Quick Charge ports. Each of the ports uses Quick Charge 3.0, and can therefore fast charge your Samsung Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Z Flip. However, since the max output of this wall charger is 39W, you’re able to fast charge two phones at the same time.

So you can fast charge a Fold and Z Flip at the same time, or any other devices.

Not power related but still important to the experience that you’re able to get from this charger is that the LED power light has a sensor. If you’re charging your smartphone at night, then the light dims down. It then brightens up in brighter surroundings. Not many wall chargers do this.

The only flaw that we find with this wall charger is that it does not use a retractable AC adapter, which would make it even more portable with its small size.

Pros for Anker PowerPort Speed 2 Quick Charge Wall Charger

  • Has two Quick Charge ports
  • Has a 39W max output that allows you to fast charge two smartphones at the same time
  • Features a light sensor for dimming or brightening the power light

Aukey 36W Dual USB-C Power Delivery Wall Charger

Okay, so the Fold and Z Flip may not be Power Delivery compatible, but you may have devices that are compatible with Power Delivery such as a laptop or tablet. This might be true if you have a Chromebook that charges through a USB-C port, a MacBook, or a Microsoft Surface tablet or laptop. Well, if you do, then getting a Power Delivery wall charger can be useful.

Each of the two ports on this wall charger is capable of outputting 18W of charging power. However, your folding phone will still charge at its 15W max charging speed. The interesting part of this wall charger is that if you’re charging a device alone with it, then the port that you’re charging from has the potential to output 30W of charging power.

This is why this Aukey wall charger can be useful for Power Delivery laptop owners since it doubles as a laptop PD charger. This is called Dynamic charging, with each port being able to output 18W if you’re charging two devices, but 30W from a single port if you’re only charging one device.

Satechi Power Delivery and Quick Charge 4-Port Desktop Charger

Satechi 75W USB-C Power Delivery Charging Station

This is a Satechi desktop charger, it differs from a wall charger only with its use of a  power cord, rather than a built-in AC adapter. That said, using a power cord makes it a lot easier to place the charger where you want it to be so you can have all your devices charging near you.

The power output of this charger is very high. The USB-C Power Delivery port has an output of 60W, a charging speed that can fast charge your Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip. You can also use the Orange Quick Charge 3.0 port to charge your Samsung smartphone and leave the Power Delivery port for charging a laptop if you have one that does charge via USB-C.

The other two ports are standard ports that have a 12W charging speed. Just like the Anker PowerPort Speed that we mentioned earlier in this guide, this Satechi charger also has a light sensor to dim the power light depending on the brightness of your surroundings.

Fast Charging Power Banks

Power banks are an even more useful way to charge your Samsung phone or any phone for that matter. Wall chargers are great to use, but they’re stationary, and that makes you stationary.

When you’re phone needs to be charged, most of the time it’s when you’re out and about going about your day. Having a portable charger in your pocket ready to charge your insanely powerful phone can be a blessing.

Aukey 10,000mAh Power Bank with 18W USB-C Power Delivery

Modern smartphones have large batteries because they’re so powerful and burn into the battery power so quickly. If you’re only using a power bank for charging your smartphone or if you want a power bank that is as small as possible but is still able to give you an optimal charging experience, then consider this Aukey power bank.

This Aukey power bank has a 10,000mAh power capacity which is the sweet spot for being a smartphone power bank. Since the Samsung Galaxy Fold has a 4,380mAh battery, you can get about 1.5 full charges. Charging a Galaxy Z Flip will result in two full charges because the Z Flip has a 3,300mAh battery size.

For charging, this power bank has an 18W USB-C Power Delivery port, a Quick Charge 3.0 port, and a standard port.

Using either the Power Delivery port or the Quick Charge port will be able to fast charge your Galaxy phone. The form factor of this power bank is great as it’s about 5 inches in length and 0.6 inches in thickness.

RAVPower 20,100mAh Quick Charge USB-C Power Bank

A higher capacity power bank from RAVPower may be more of what you need if you want to be able to use more power to fully charge a Samsung phone. With its 20,100mAh power capacity, you’re able to charge a Galaxy Fold to full power about three times, then you can expect a Z Flip to get about five full charges.

Just remember though, these full charge estimates are based on charging each smartphone along with the power bank. Charging multiple devices at the same time will result in less full power recharges.

There are three ports to use, there are a Quick Charge 3.0 port and a USB-C port with a 15W charging speed. Both of those ports are perfect for fast charging your Samsung phone. The third port is a standard 12W port.

You can recharge the power bank by either using the Micro-USB input port or the USB-C port. The USB-C port has a 15W recharging speed, while the Micro-USB input port has an 18W recharge speed if you use a Quick Charge wall charger to recharge it with.

There are three ports, with one being a Quick Charge port, and there are two standard ports. You’re going to want to use the Quick Charge port with your Samsung phone.

The only flaw that we can find with this power bank is that it still uses a Micro-USB input port, and using a USB-C port would be beneficial as nearly all smartphones use the USB-C port now.
