Best Power Banks for Surface Book 3

(Last Updated On: March 6, 2021)

Microsoft has always been a competitor in the space of laptops and tablets, always at the forefront of innovation when it comes to their portable devices. One of the most notable parts that Microsoft has improved on is its design and the performance you get.

The Surface Book 3, one of the latest tablet/laptop hybrids from Microsoft, provides one of the best experiences you can get from a hybrid device. The tablet form factor of the Surface Book 3 has two sizes, one is a 15-inch, and the other is a 13.5-inch size. To add to that, either of the displays can get near a 4K resolution. What’s even more impressive is that you can choose to go with a model that has an Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card, something that many hybrid tablets don’t use, and as a result, you can use your Surface Book for gaming.

Of course, most of the time, you’re likely going to be using the Surface Book with the Keyboard attachment, and the keyboard attachment isn’t like Microsoft’s other 2-in-1 laptop hybrids such as the Surface Pro 7 or Surface Go. Instead, when you attach the tablet part of the Surface Book 3 to the keyboard, the hybrid turns into a full-fledged laptop.

With all this power usage and ease of portability, using a power bank for the Surface Book 3 may be one of the most useful ways to charge it. The added benefit of charging the Surface is its USB-C Power Delivery compatibility, so you have more charging options. In this guide, we’re covering power banks that you can use to charge the Microsoft Surface device.

RAVPower 30,000mAh 90W Power Delivery Power Bank

We’re starting strong with this RAVPower portable charger with a 30,000mAh power capacity that can be used to charge the Microsoft Surface Book to full power a few times. The Surface Book 3 has a 5,600mAh battery size, so if you’re only using this portable charger for charging it, then you can fair about three or full charges for the Book 3. With a 30,000mAh power capacity, you can very well use the power bank for charging other devices to full power, such as smartphones and other tablets.

Charging power is not lacking with this power bank, with this one using a 90W USB-C Power Delivery port and a Quick Charge 3.0 USB-A port. When it comes to charging the Surface Book 3 via USB-C, it’s best to get a charger that has a 30W Power Delivery charging speed or higher. An 18W Power Delivery port does not deliver enough power for charging most of these larger types of devices.

With a 90W USB-C Power Delivery, you’re able to charge the Surface Book at its max charging speed, and you can also use it to fast charge most USB-C chargeable laptops that you already own or may own in the future.

The Quick Charge 3.0 USB-A port can fast charge Android smartphones; if you’re charging from two devices simultaneously, the USB-C port outputs 65W. Still enough charging power for the Surface Book.

You’re also able to recharge the power bank at 60W with a Power Delivery wall charger, but you have to provide your own. This power bank does come with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Anker PowerCore+ 26800 45W USB-C Power Delivery Power Bank

This Power Delivery power bank comes from Anker, one of the larger brands of portable chargers. This is their PowerCore+ 26800 power bank that has a 26,800mAh power capacity. A high power capacity can be useful for charging the Surface Book 3 to its full power about two times. This Anker power bank has three ports to add to the power capacity, with one USB-C Power Delivery port and two USB-A ports.

The USB-C Power Delivery port has a 45W charging speed, and each of the USB-A ports has a 5V/3.0A (15W) charging speed. The Power Delivery port has a lower charging speed than the other two power banks that we’ve mentioned so far, but that’s okay as it’s well above the minimum 30W speed that you should be using to charge the Surface Book 3.

As an added incentive to get this PowerCore 26800 portable charger, it comes with a 60W Power Delivery wall charger that you can use to charge the Surface Book 3, and it comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. The power bank is made of Aluminum, as opposed to plastic that most power banks tend to be made of.

RAVPower 45W USB-C Power Delivery 20,100mAh Power Bank

Another power bank from RAVPower does have lower powering with its power capacity and charging power. However, it’s enough for the Surface Book 3. It also comes at a lower price than the previous RAVPower charger that we mentioned.

This one has a 20,100mAh power capacity, enough power to get you about two full charges for the Surface Book. The charging is minimal on this power bank, with it only featuring two ports. One port is the 45W USB-C Power Delivery port, and the other is a USB-A port with a 12W charging speed.

The charger has two input ports that you can use to recharge it, with a Micro-USB input port with an 18W recharging speed if you use a Quick Charge wall charger or use the Power Delivery port to recharge the power bank. We recommend using the USB-C port to recharge this power bank, as you can recharge the power bank at a 30W charging speed with a PD wall charger.

The power bank also comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a Micro-USB cable that you can use to recharge the power bank or charge your Surface Book 3 with.

MAXOAK 99Wh 45W Power Delivery AC Outlet Power Bank

This MAXOAK portable charger is slightly different from other power banks in this guide, as it doubles as a power station. The charger has a 26,756mAh power capacity. It matches the high capacities as the other power banks in this guide; however, they usually tend to have even higher capacities when it comes to portable power stations than this one. That said, the lower capacity, in this case, is good because the MAXOAK power bank is still small and portable.

The main difference with this charger is that it has an AC outlet with a 100W power output. You can use this power output for powering small appliances, and you can even use it to power a Power Delivery wall charger to charge your Surface Book 3.

There is also a 45W USB-C Power Delivery port on this portable charger that you can use to charge your Surface directly. Along with the PD port, there are two USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 ports.

This charger also has an LED flashlight that can be handy if you ever have to deal with a power outage. Considering the price of this MAXOAK portable power station charger, it comes as a surprise that the power bank includes a 30W Power Delivery wall charger and a USB-C to USB-C cable; both can be used to charge your Surface Book 3.

Excitrus 9,600mAh 45W Mini Power Delivery Power Bank

When it comes to more powerful charging from a Power Delivery power bank, it’s almost always one with high power capacities. It’s rare to have a power bank with less than a 20,000mAh power capacity with a Power Delivery port higher than 18W. This Excitrus power bank is an exception to this being a Mini 45W USB-C Power Delivery power bank. There are not many like this.

This Excitrus power bank has a 9,600mAh power capacity, a low capacity to provide a single full charge to the Surface Book, and most other laptops and tablets will get similar full charge results. This is not the type of power bank to use for days without charging, but the other features are very impressive.

The power bank has a 45W USB-C Power Delivery port and two USB-A ports. One of the USB-A ports features a Quick Charge port, and the other one has a standard charging speed. You can also recharge this power bank at 45W with a Power Delivery wall charger.
