Surge Protectors are used a lot within households and they’re not something new. That said, just like most electronics, they can still be improved.

There are lots of Surge Protectors on the market that use power buttons for each of their AC Outlets and many have also implemented USB charging ports so you can charge your smartphones and tablets directly using the power strip.

It’s these tiny parts that have made Surge Protectors better to own and there are details that BESTEK has worked on that can be useful for most people.

It’s this 8 Outlet power strip that has power switches for 7 of its outlets and a control outlet that can act as a universal power switch for all the other outlets. Let’s take a closer look at what this Surge Protector features with its powering and design capabilities.

Power

AC Outlets:

There’s no shortage of power with this Surge Protector and that would be because it has a max power output of 1875W through its AC Outlets.

It’s basically the same amount of power that you’re going to have if you were to use a Wall AC Outlet and that’s a very good thing. As a result, don’t be afraid of plugging in a few appliances all at once as it can provide an ample amount of power.

Better yet, if you want to make sure that some appliances are not going to be in use then you can just turn the power switch for the AC Outlet to “Switched” as it basically turns off the AC Outlet so long as the Control Outlet is not in use. So you don’t have to worry about plugging and unplugging devices constantly.

USB Charging Ports:

Of course, what type of a Surge Protector would this be without the use of USB charging ports?

Even though we’re somewhat joking, the use of USB ports with Surge Protectors is very normal now as many people own USB chargeable devices and therefore having USB ports with Surge Protectors is a very convenient thing to have.

Also, the use of USB ports basically erases the need to use a USB wall charger or Desktop charger with your power strip as it’s already implemented on to the power strip.

There are a total of two USB charging ports on this power strip and they’re quite powerful. That’s because each of the ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and the max output of the USB portion is 4.2A. 2.4 Amps is a good amount of power that can charge most devices at their max charging speed.

That said, in this case, you can’t use the max power of each of the two ports at the same time as the max output would have to be 4.8A. Of course, it’s not really a problem as the charging speed of each of the ports would be 2.1A if you were using the max output.

Input:

You should be good to power this BESTEK Surge Protector with any AC Wall Outlet as it takes 100-125V of power.

Design

Size and Weight:

This is a very traditional Surge Protector and by that, we mean it has a lengthy design. It has a length of 15.3 inches, a width of 3 inches and a thickness of 1.6 inches.

The weight of the power strip is 2.7 pounds. We think it has a good size for the amount AC Outlets that are on it, if you do want a different form factor such as a tower Surge Protector then we recommend BESTEK’s Tower Strip that has a vertical form factor.

Placing it on a surface won’t take up too much space.

Functional Components:

On the functional side, this BESTEK Surge Protector has quite a lot of things that are functional, but the best part is that it’s organized, in the same area and it’s all easy to use.

All 8 of the AC Outlets are lined up one after another with the Red Control Outlet being the first one followed by the rest that are blue colored.

7 of the AC outlets have their own switches and the two modes that they can be in are “Switched” which means that the AC Outlet is turned ON and OFF depending on what’s plugged into the Control Outlet.

So if you have 7 Appliances connected into the Non-Control Outlet and they’re all set to “Switched” mode, then they will either all be on or off depending on whether or not the device connected to the Control outlet is on or off.

Or you can just have nothing plugged into the Control AC Outlet and just have the switches set to “Always On” for when you’re using an AC Outlet and then set it to “Switched” for when you’re not using it.

The two USB charging ports are under a flap, and once the Surge Protector is plugged in and powered on, there’s a Greenlight that comes from the USB charging port section. And of course, there’s a power switch for the entirety of the Surge Protector if you want to turn it on or off.

Build

Structure and Material:

The Surge Protector is built very well and we found no issues when it came to using it heavily.

If you do go over the powering limits of the Surge Protector then it automatically shuts off as it has a Circuit Breaker that prevents anything from overloading and damaging your devices. The material it’s made of is also fire-resistant.

When it comes to actually using the Surge Protector, all the parts felt very solid as the AC Outlet receptacles felt very tight when we did plugin appliances. USB ports also felt good to use with charging cables staying put and the power switches for the individual AC Outlets are solidly built.

Tech:

The tech from this Surge Protector is top tier and it shuts off with its Circuit if there is an overload of power.

Reliability

You can’t go wrong with this Surge Protector if you’re searching for one. It has quite a few options that can be used with its Control outlet and power switches for its 7 outlets. The use of two USB charging ports is also quite useful as you won’t have to use a USB wall charger.
