Mophie Releases its New Power Station Series that Features Wireless Charging Power Banks

(Last Updated On: October 6, 2016)

Mophie, a company that is known for their wonderful Battery cases has announced their new versions of Powerstations. Powerstations are simply Mophie’s way of saying power bank. What exactly do these power banks feature that are so evolutionary to the charging electronic space? Well, we’ll let you be the judge in this case because they’re totally brand new power banks that we haven’t gotten our hands on just yet.

Powerstation Mini

Mini

The Powerstation Mini is the smallest class of all the new series of power banks; Its also got the smallest capacity of all the power banks. It’s clearly a singular use power banks that has a capacity of 3,000mAh with just one port. The power bank is about the size of an iPhone 6, expect with a little more width. It’s small enough that it can into your pocket, however, if it can fit comfortably into your pocket is a whole other situation.

It’s got 4 LED capacity indicators. The Output charging speed of the Mini is 2.1A. As for the input recharging of the power bank, Mophie doesn’t seem to have announced that yet, so we won’t speculate it. It’s capable of Pass Through charging which means that the power bank can recharge while a device is connected to the power bank to charge. The pass through feature goes for all the power banks in the Powerstation lineup.

Overall the new version of the Power Station Mini is indeed an overall improvement that’s going to provide a better experience with better technology and design; However, how it will compete with other Mini Power banks is still something that is very questionable due to its price tag with what it offers.

Powerstation

Standard

The Power station is Mophie’s standard power bank that offers a bigger size and with it comes a larger capacity power bank. The portable charger is portable indeed, but don’t expect to fit it into your pocket because although the Power Station is just a tad smaller than a iPhone 6, the thickness of the power bank is not going to fit anywhere tight.

It’s going to have a capacity of 6,000mAh; The power bank has two charging outputs that will charge at 2.1A charging speed. Although, Mophie is being somewhat vague on which port is going to feature the 2.1A charging output. Are both of the ports going to have 2.1 Amps Output? Or is it just one charging output that will have 2.1 Amps? These kinds of details would be highly helpful if someone wanted to Pre-order this power bank. Of course, like always the power bank comes with 4 LED capacity indicators. The Micro USB recharging input is in the middle of the two charging outputs.

Do we think this standard power bank is going to blow the competition away and shake up what people expect from power banks? Not really. The Powerstation charger looks much better than the previous version but the tech is simply not quite there yet; We’ll let you know what we mean at the end of this article.

Powerstation XL

XL

The next renovation with Mophie’s Powerstation lineup is their XL series that goes into the higher capacity and bigger size of their power bank category. Coming in at approximately the size of a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the power bank is still within the portable range; It’s not going to fit into your pocket quite easily but the main selling point of the Power Station XL will most likely be its power capacity.

Boasting a relatively high capacity of 10,000mAh; The Power Station XL will be prepared to charge smartphones quite a few times. The charging output of the port is 2.1A, but once again Mophie fails to inform us whether or not it’s one port or both ports that will feature 2.1 Amps of charging speed. It’s very similarly designed like the Power Station, with the ports and LED indicators all in the same location; Simply at a bigger physical size.

Specs:

  • Capacity: 10,000mAh
  • Size: 2.7 x 5.2 x 0.63 in
  • Weight: 7.7 oz
  • # Of Ports: 2
  • Output: 2.1A for possibly both ports
  • Input: N/A at this time
  • Wireless Charging: No
  • LED Indicators: Yes

Powerstation XXL

XXL

At the brim of the Powerstation lineup comes the Powerstation XXL. It’s the largest power bank in terms of size and capacity. The size of the power bank is somewhat shockingly small with the power bank being a few inches bigger than a iPhone 6 Plus. The main selling point will be the 20,000mAh capacity that the power bank holds; Along with the high capacity, the power bank holds a total of 3 charging outputs.

The output speed of two charging output ports is 2.1A and the other one is 1.0A. Combine the amount of ports and the large capacity of the power bank, and you’ve got yourself a power bank that can be very well relied on. It’s got all the charging ports lined up on one side, the Micro USB input alone on one side and the LED power indicators are where they usually are.

We think that the Power Station XXL and the Mini are going to make the most sense to purchase because they’re able to take advantage of the best things they have implemented and use them as a strengths.

Specs:

  • Capacity: 20,000mAh
  • Size: 3.62 x 6.1 x 0.79 in
  • Weight: 15.1 oz
  • # Of Ports: 3
  • Output: 2.1A For Two Ports / 1.0A For One Port
  • Input: N/A at this time
  • Wireless Charging: No
  • LED Indicators: Yes

Charge Force Powerstation

Charge Force

Lastly, the Charge Force Powerstation is the Mophie’s wireless charging power bank. Coming in at about the same size as the Galaxy S7 and with a capacity of 10,000mAh; The Charge Force Powerstation is able to charge a device either through plugging it in through the single charging output or a user will be able to charge their Qi-compatible device in a wireless manner simply by setting their phone on top of the power bank.

If you’ve got a Qi-compatible device, then you can take advantage of the wireless charging; Additionally, another device can be connected to the USB charging output and as result two devices can be charged at the same time.

It’s a step forward in terms of wireless charging and the usability of a power bank. Although, if you don’t have a Qi compatible device, then settling for a normal power station is the best option.

Specs:

  • Capacity: 10,000mAh
  • Size: 2.72 x 5.19 x 0.63 in
  • Weight: 8.52 oz
  • # Of Ports: 1
  • Output: Wireless Charging – 2.1A / Charging Output Port – 2.1A
  • Input: N/A at this time
  • Wireless Charging: Yes

Will These Power Banks be Worth It?

Here’s the thing, the Powerstations from Mophie are good, they hold quality and they have a purpose for what they do. However, with that said, Mophie has debuted these power banks a little too late because most of their tech and design has already been done before. Along with the price tag, there are other power banks that give higher capacities, power and all for a lower price tag. Although the power banks are slimmer and more stylized, we hope that these power banks find a massive scale use for users.

In our opinion, the main selling point of these power banks is their improvements features. Mophie is playing the innovation card, by increasingly improving their products over a set period of time, keeping prices the same and showing people that they are willing to add value to their existing products by improving upon them. This kind of improvement, however, will most likely affect their existing user base and will be harder for others that rely on different companies for their power bank charging needs.
