There are just a few of these massive behemoths, but this Anker PowerHouse is a portable charger that offers charging capabilities that you’ve probably never heard or even experienced before.

It brings all the facets of many charging electronics together into one mega charger. It has a V12 Outlet, an AC Outlet, a DC Outlet, and 4 PowerIQ USB charging ports.

When you lay on the 120,000mAh of power capacity, this thing is powerful, and it’s going to be useful for many charging needs, whether it’s for recreational or serious needs.

Power Capacity:

It’s massive, just absolutely massive. The power capacity of the Anker PowerHouse starts with a power capacity of 120,000mAh, and well, that very large power capacity can change very drastically. This is because the PowerHouse has LOTS of ways to charge from, and that means that there’s a lot of power conversion happening.

So let’s take a sec to take a look at the ways to charge with this power bank:

  • 4 USB Ports
  • v12 Outlet
  • DC Outlet
  • AC Outlet

Of course, if you’re getting the PowerHouse, then you’re most likely going to be using the more powerful charging options that aren’t the USB charging ports, and that’s going to result in the power capacity going to some changes during conversion.

We know that Anker states just how much charges you’ll be able to get from the PowerHouse with certain devices, like powering a Mini Fridge for 7 hours or get 6.5 charges for a Laptop. These are all still near possible.

More than Enough Power

However, they’re not exactly real-life applicable because the PowerHouse will lose quite a lot of its power capacity during charging and powering devices. This can result in an Output power capacity of anywhere from 100,000mAh to even 80,000mAh if the PowerHouse is getting heated.

What can do you with the Power?

So, for the most part, you’ll have at least 90,000mAh of Output power capacity that you’ll be able to use, and that’s still A LOT of power to use.

As a result, charging small devices like smartphones will be no problem at all as they’ll be able to charge 20 times or more. Charging smartphones like iPhones will provide the best experience since they have smaller battery capacities. From then on, the PowerHouse’s charging powers are still able to stand true.

As you’ll be able to charge laptops and tablets multiple times well. This ultimately comes down to the PowerHouse becoming the one tried and true way to provide reliable power during a power outage or to use it on your camping and hiking trips.

We don’t see much use for the PowerHouse over more traditional portable chargers because otherwise, it would be overkill.

Output Charging:

Let’s go through each of the charging and Powering options that this PowerHouse can offer.

4 USB Output Ports:

Let’s start with the basics of power bank charging. There are 4 charging ports, and each of the charging ports can Output 5V/2.4A. 2.4 Amps is the Max standard charging speed and will be able to charge most smartphones at their max charging speeds and charge tablets like iPads at their max charging speeds as well.

However, the USB ports don’t have Quick Charge, so Quick Charge and USB-C  compatible devices won’t charge at their max charging speeds. Even so, for USB charging, this is great.

Also, the Max Output of the USB charging ports is 6 Amps. So when you’re pushing the 4 USB ports to their limits, the Max Output of each of the charging ports will be 5V/1.5A. We consider this to be pretty good, and the 4 devices that are charging when charging is at their limits will be charged at an “Okay” rate.

DC Outlet:

The DC Outlet of the PowerHouse is mostly where you’re going to be using for your Laptop charging needs. It has an Output power of 12V/10A, which is enough power to charge most Laptops at their max charging speeds.

V12 Outlet:

The PowerHouse even has a V12 outlet, which means you can either use any of your V12 compatible devices with it. With that said, we found that using a car charger is what makes the most sense to use with the V12 outlet because it gives you additional charging ports to use.

Take, for instance. You can use a car charger with 4 charging ports and have 4 more charging ports to use with the other 4 Built-In USB charging ports. As a result, you can potentially make this an 8 port power bank!

That’s lots of charging power being outputted, and the best part is even with 8 devices charging at the same time, these power banks won’t have a problem charging all of them because of their humongous power capacity.

AC Outlet:

One of the most useful parts of the PowerHouse is its AC Outlet, basically like a Wall Outlet. The AC Outlet can power devices up to 160 Watts. This means that you can power devices like Mini fridges, lamps, and any other devices that are of the same power range.

However, once the PowerHouse detects a draw greater than 160 Watts, it will then disengage.

It’s important to remember that even though the Anker PowerHouse can power lots of devices and has a VERY high power capacity, it isn’t exactly a generator. Think of it as an overly powerful power bank with the ability to power small appliances as well.

Input Charging:

It might be hard to believe, but the recharging speed of the PowerHouse is quite fast because it’s recharged through the DC port that is also used as the Input for recharging. When you use an AC Outlet in your house, the PowerHouse can recharge at speeds of 16.8V/7.5A, and this will result in a full recharge within just 6 hours.

It comes with an AC Adapter to recharge the unit.

Size and Weight:

Of course, it’s large. Very large and heavy at that too. This is what you get when you pack the equivalent of six 20,000mAh power banks into just a single pack, and there are also additional charging options that are very powerful.

Great Power with Great Size and Weight

It has a length of 7.9 inches, a width of 6.5 inches, and a thickness of 5.7 inches. We know that it’s ridiculous even to state the size of the power bank, but now you get the idea that it’s large. However, the more important aspect of its design is that it’s cumbersome at a weight of 9.3 pounds.

So yeah, basically holding this is like holding a dumbbell in your hand.

It probably goes without saying, but the PowerHouse charger will be set down and used at nearly all times. Even though it is, in a way, somewhat portable, you’re not going to want to hold this and charge even the simplest of devices like your smartphone.

Functional Components:

Even though it might look like it’s complicated to use, this PowerHouse is effortless to use.

Difficult to Create but Very Easy to Use

All of the functional parts are on a single side. Each of the charging options has a button above them to activate that specific piece of charging, so if you want to use the AC Outlet, you will press the AC Outlet power button, and the same goes for the USB charging ports.

Once a power button is pressed, the charging indicator for that area will appear on the Blue LCD screen that the PowerHouse uses also to tell power capacity. Power capacity is told in a percentage manner and is great at giving an accurate reading of the remaining power.

To make the large portable charger more portable, there’s a handle at the top that makes it easy to carry. It even has a soft-touch underside to make sure that when you do carry this heavy power bank, that it’s made as bearable as possible.

Structure and Material:

Everything about the PowerHouse feels like it’s well made, and that’s primarily because it is. It has a metal casing and a few screws that hold the frame tightly together.

Dropping it onto hard ground may result in damage, but what matters most is how high up it falls from because the PowerHouse can very well survive falls, bumps, and hits; it just matters more about the severity of those things.

Tech:

Something this powerful and with this amount of power capacity ought to be as safe as possible, and thankfully it is. This is because the Anker PowerHouse makes use of a Battery Management System (BMS), which is probably a bit of a fancier way of saying that it uses their Multi Safe Protection System.

This allows the PowerHouse to have Voltage-Control, Temperature Control, and many other safety tech precautions that make charging with it highly safe and reliable.

Reliability

There’s no doubt in our mind that this power bank is reliable. It has an initial power capacity of 120,000mAh which can charge most of the devices that you use daily, like your smartphone, tablet, and Laptop, multiple times over. We don’t even mean 4 times or more; we’re talking about being able to charge those devices into the double digits.

It can even provide power to appliances through its AC Outlet.

Then there are the unreliable pieces that are few and ones that you probably know of from reading this review. It’s really large and very heavy at the same time too. So this isn’t a portable power source that you’re going to walk around with, and that’s it.

The power is all there, so is the reliability and build quality. We’re gonna go out on a limb and say that even though this power bank is large and heavy, the fact that you’re able to take it with you nearly anywhere (Except for Airplanes) is just amazing.

It’s really big and really heavy at 9.3 pounds. With that said, it’s at least easy to use by pressing a button at the top of each charging option; you’ll be able to start charging from that specified charging area.

Build:

Even though it’s really large, the PowerHouse is very strong, and it can withstand some situations that would otherwise damage any normal power banks. Of course, using a plethora of safety tech features makes it highly safe and reliable to use.

Reliability:

The PowerHouse is very reliable for nearly all of your charging needs, a few of your powering needs, and not that great for your portability needs.

The Anker PowerHouse has proved itself to be a mighty portable charger that goes beyond what any other portable charger can deliver.

We honestly find it silly even to call it a “Power Bank” or “Portable Charger” because it goes beyond just that. It has the powering capabilities of a mini generator. So yeah, it’s a mini generator.
