Most of the time, when we think about fast charging technologies, we think about the Quick Charge, and that’s about it. Fast charging tech is essential these days, and that many of the batteries used with our portable devices are increasing in power capacity. So we have to have a fast charging tech that can fill up our device to full power faster. Quick Charge is great for smartphones, but it can’t exactly be universally used with all portable devices.

That’s where USB-C Power Delivery charging comes in. What is Power Delivery? Power Delivery is a fast form of charging that is compatible with the USB-C standard. Power Delivery is going to be more universally used, or at least it should, because it works with USB-C, which is now being used with more than just smartphones, as now there are tablets and even laptops that are using USB-C to charge.

What matters most is the Power Delivery charger that you get to charge your USB-C Power Delivery compatible device. In this case, we’re going to be reviewing this Anker Premium 5-Port Power Delivery wall charger. It’s one of the most powerful chargers from Anker, and it has a lot of charging power to offer.

So let’s see if the charging power is all worth it.

Power

Output Charging:

There are two main parts of this Anker wall charger, and that would be the USB-C port and there are four USB-A ports. So total, there are 5 ports in all.

USB-C Power Delivery Port

The USB-C Power Delivery port on this wall charger has an output charging speed of 30W. So 30W of charging is basically double the standard charging speed of 15W (5V/3.0A) that standard USB-C ports can output.

30W of charging power is enough to charge Power Delivery compatible smartphones at their max charging. Some of these smartphones include the Galaxy S8, both Quick Charge and Power Delivery compatible, the Google Pixel 2, and the Essential Phone. If you didn’t know, you could charge the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 with Power Delivery as they’re PD compatible. If you want to charge those two smartphones with this USB-C port, you can use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable.

For all other devices that you can charge with the USB-C port, you’re going to end up using a USB-C to USB-C charging cable.

Charging when it comes to USB-C laptops like the MacBook and Chromebooks is also quite good with this charger as each of them can charge at or near their max charging speed. We say “near” because there are some MacBook models, such as the MacBook Pro 13-inch, that can charge at 61W for their max charging speed. So this Anker wall charger will still charge it, just not at its max charging speed.

30W of charging is the baseline, and that really matters most, and the great part about this Anker Premium 5-port wall charger is that the 30W of charging power is reserved for the USB-C port.

While the other 30W of charging power is for the USB-A section of the charger.

USB-A Ports

The other part of this charger is the 4 USB-A ports. Each of the USB-A ports has an output charging speed of 5V/2.4A, and that’s enough to charge most standard devices at or near their max charging speed. None of the USB-A ports feature Quick Charge, so just a heads up.

The max output of the USB-A port is 30W or 6A. So you can use the max power of two ports at the same time. If you’re charging four devices with the USB-A port with the 6A max output being reached, then that will result in each port being able to output 5V/1.5A.

Max Output:

The max output of this wall charger is 60W. Half is for the USB-C port, and the other 30W half is for the USB-A port. So you can use the max power of the USB-C Power Delivery while simultaneously using the max power of the USB-A port section. There are no compromises when it comes to charging power with this Anker wall charger.

Size and Weight:

The size of a wall charger isn’t really a concern as they’re such small devices, to begin with. This charger has a length of 4 inches, a width of 3.1 inches, and a thickness of 1.1 inches. The weight of the charger is 8.8 Ounces. What does make this charger feel large is its power cord, but that’s about it.

Functional Components:

Using this 5-port wall charger is quite simple. As all you have to do is plug the power cord into the wall charger and then plug the power cord into an AC outlet to power it. Then you’re ready to use the wall charger.

With USB-C to USB-C charging cables being used with the USB-C to charge USB-C compatible devices. Or a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge the iPhone X and iPhone 8 at their max charging speed.

Above all the charging ports, there is a dim, cool Blue light to show that the wall charger is plugged in, powered, and ready to use.

Build

Structure and Material:

If it’s from Anker, then you can bet that the charger is going to be of great quality, and that’s exactly the case here. With this Anker wall charger having one of the best builds out there, even though it’s made of plastic, but the construction holds tight. One part that you will definitely notice when it comes to using this wall charger is that the ports hold on very well to the charging cable you place into them.

Tech:

If you’re using the max power or near the max power of this wall charger, then you can expect the charger to get warm simply because there’s quite a lot of power being outputted.

Reliability

The first reason you should be considering getting this wall charge is its use of Power Delivery. That’s because if you’re looking for a 5-port wall charger that has USB-A ports, then it’s best to go for Anker’s standard PowerPort 5 wall charger that has just that.

The use of USB-A ports with this wall charger is great, and they’re a powerful tool, but they’re really an add-on when you place the Power Delivery into the mix.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power from the USB-C Power Delivery port is good and can charge Power Delivery compatible smartphones at their max charging speed. It can also charge most Power Delivery compatible laptops at their max power too. Another powerful part is the USB-A ports, too.

Design:

The charger is easy to set-up and use. It has a Blue indicator to show that the charger is ready to use.

Build:

This charger’s build quality is great structurally, but it does get warm if you’re using most or all of the 60W max output.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable wall charger that you can use to charge Power Delivery compatible devices at a faster charging speed while at the same time changing other four devices at once. The best part is that you don’t have to compromise charging power from the USB-C port.

Conclusion:

Anker has done it once again with this Premium 5-port wall charger. We have to say that this is a Premium wall charger indeed, and that’s because you can use the max power of its PD port while at the same time using the max power of the USB-A ports.
