When it comes to power strips, we mostly think of an appliance that’s flat and has many AC outlets that we use to power many appliances at the same time. However, that has changed over time and that’s definitely the case with this Anker PowerPort Cube power strip. Of course, as you could tell by the image above, this is not really a normal looking power strip and it’s in the form factor of a cube. Now, there are power strip towers, such as this Bestek one that we’ve reviewed and we fond that it has a great user experience.

That said, with this Anker PowerPort Cube, it looks rather cool but does the user experience still fair well with its unusual form factor?

Power

Output Charging:

By all accounts, this is just like using a regular power strip but it has a drastically different form factor that looks pretty cool. At the same time, if you’re looking for one that features more then three ports, then this one is likely a pass for you. That’s because this Anker PowerPort cube features a total of three 3-prong AC outlets.

The powering potential of the AC outlets is 1250W, you’ve got quite a bit of power to use here. Along with the AC outlets, this would not be an Anker product without it using charging ports, and there are three prominent USB-A ports that are on top of the PowerPort Cube.

Each of the ports is able to deliver a 5V/2.4 (12W) charging speed, that said, the max output of the USB port section is 18W (3.6A). So you won’t be able to use the max power of all the USB-A ports at once, however, that’s basically the standard for most power strips anyways and the usage of charging ports with a power strip can be very useful as you don’t have to use a separate wall charger near your desktop.

Design

Size and Weight:

The power strop has a very small size, with it being a complete cube and each of its dimensions being 2.4 inches. It also has a weight of 9.4 Ounces. So it can easily fit onto your computer desk without taking much space at all.

The PowerPort Cube even comes with adhesive strips that you can use to attach it to a wall or place it under tables.

Functional Components:

On the functional side, this power strip is mostly a breeze to use, and the reason that we say, “Mostly”, is because the AC outlets are on different sides, so you have to either turn it around or navigate yourself around the cube to find the AC outlet and then plug in your appliance. Only a minor inconvenience, really.

The charging ports are really easy to access though as they’re at the top. Also at the top of the cube is where you’ll find the power button that you can press to turn on and off the cube, which is a lot easier and more convenient rather than unplugging and plugging it back in.

Build

Structure and Material:

On the build side, it’s what you can expect from Anker’s products and that would mean it has a strong structure and even with its small form factor, Anker still made it feel like we were using a fully large Surge Protector whether it’s for the ports or for the AC outlets.

Tech:

Even though it does have a small form factor and we worried that it would get warm because of that, using three appliances and charging three devices at once does not make the PowerPort Cube overheat which is a huge relief.

Reliability

The Powerstrip Cube is fresh and has quite a neat design. It’s actually capable of quite a lot even with its limiting small form factor, at the same time, that’s exactly what it has, a limiting form factor that prevents it from having more AC outlets and so if you want more than 3 Outlets to use, then this one isn’t really for you.

Summary:

Power:

The powering from the AC outlet is what you can expect from most other power strips. The USB-A post is a necessity when it comes to an Anker product, even though they’re not too powerful.

Design:

The form factor of this product is the main selling point, and that’s because it not only looks unique but it’s very small.

Build:

Even though it has a small form factor the PowerPort Cube does not get very warm even when you’re using all it has to offer.

Reliability:

It does everything that it can at an optimal level, however, if you want more AC outlets to power more appliances at once, then you’re going to have to go for a more practical Surge Protector.
