Power Delivery chargers usually use just a single USB-C port because of how much power they’re able to output. Also, USB-C ports have been known for fast charging, rather than regular USB-A ports. However, that is slowly changing as USB-C is the new standard that many portable devices are now using, so it’s a matter of time until there are multiple USB-C ports used with wall chargers and other types of chargers.

This Anker PowerPort III Duo wall charger is an example of that, with it using two USB-C Power Delivery ports.

Power

Output Charging:

When it comes to wall chargers that use two USB-C Power Delivery ports, most of the time they have dynamic charging. Meaning that if you’re only using a single port, the single USB-C port that you’re using will have more charging power than if you’re using two ports at the same time.

That said, this PowerPort III Duo does not feature dynamic charging and the charging speed for the ports will stay the same whether you’re charging one or two devices at once.

Fast charging a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Google Pixel at the same time

Each of the USB-C PD ports has an 18W charging speed, and the max output of the wall charger is 36W, so you’re able to use the max power of the two ports at the same time.

What does that mean? It means that you can fast charge two Power Delivery compatible smartphones at the same time. In our case, we were able to fast charge  Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and a Google Pixel at the same time. You would also be able to fast charge a Power Delivery compatible iPhone such as an iPhone 11, 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, and then charge a compatible Android smartphone.

Charging stats for Google Pixel

As we mentioned before, if you’re charging just a single device, the USB-C port will charge at 18W, and not use the full 36W. We tested this out by charging a Microsoft Surface Go with a single USB-C port and the Surface Go was only able to charge at about 15W. If the 36W was being utilized, the charging speed would be 30W for the Surface Go.

It’s a great wall charger to use for fast charging Power Delivery compatible smartphones, but not useful for charging USB-C PD laptops.

Size and Weight:

When it comes to regular dual-port USB-A wall chargers, they can be very small. This Anker PowerPort III Duo wall charger with its two USB-C ports is small, but it’s a tad bit larger than most other regular wall chargers.

It has a length and width of 2.4 inches and a thickness of 1.1 inches. The weight of the charger is 3.5 Ounces. Considering that the charge has two Power Delivery ports for fast charging, and weighs nothing, with the addition of a foldable plug, you can slip this wall charger into your pocket and forget about it.

Functional Components:

Using this Anker wall charger is just as easy as using any other wall charger. You just plug it in and you’re ready to use it. The wall charger has a Blue LED circle that shows that it’s powered and ready to use.

The wall charger does not come with any USB-C to USB-C charging cables, but it would have been nice if it came with at least one, considering that this wall charger has two USB-C ports.

Build

Structure and Material:

If you’ve ever heard of Anker, or better yet, if you’ve ever owned an Anker product then you have an idea of what to expect from this wall charger. It’s a solid product with a great build and an AC adapter that snaps out and back in.

Tech:

Even while we were fast charging two smartphones at the same, the Anker wall charger does overheat.

Reliability

Power Delivery has two reliability levels. One is reliability for smartphones and the other is reliable for charging laptops and smartphones. This PowerPort III Duo is going to be more reliable for fast charging smartphones, as each port can output 18W, and you’re able to fast charge two phones at the same time.

This wall charger would have been reliable for charging USB-C PD laptops if it featured dynamic charging and it was able to deliver 36W of charging power to laptops, but it doesn’t. 18W charging power isn’t enough for charging most PD laptops on the market.

Summary:

Power:

The charging speed from the two USB-C PD ports is 18W and is perfect for fast charging PD compatible smartphones.

Design:

It’s a very small wall charger and with its retractable AC adapter, you’re able to easily place it into your pocket.

Build:

Even with its two fast charging ports, the charger does not heat up.

Reliability:

You may hear Power Delivery and think of charging a laptop with this Anker wall charger. However, an 18W charging speed is useful for fast charging smartphones and is not nearly as useful for charging laptops.
