Wireless charging isn’t seen to be the most useful type of charging method for smartphones. Sure, it’s nice to not have to deal with a cable and to just place your smartphone on top and have it charge. You may even feel like a wizard doing it.

That said, the use of Quick Charge and Power Delivery with a port provide faster charging.

So, what are the reasons that you should use wireless charging? Fast Wireless charging. Even though Fast Wireless charging speeds are not as fast as wired ones, it’s still faster than standard wireless charging.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at this Anker PowerWave fast wireless charging pad.

Power

Output Charging:

Fast Wirelessly Charging a Samsung Galaxy S8

There are two main smartphones on the market that are known for using Fast Wireless charging, and that would be Samsung Galaxy smartphones and Qi-compatible iPhones.

Fast charging Samsung smartphones start from the Galaxy S7, all the way up to the current version of Samsung Galaxy phones. While, the iPhones X, iPhone 8, and the iPhone XS are also capable of fast wireless charging.

That said, this Anker PowerWave charging pad is capable of providing Fast wireless charging speeds for Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Which means that a Samsung phone will be able to charge at a 10W charging speed.

For all other Qi-compatible smartphones, including iPhones, they will charge at a 5W charging speed.

If you do have a Qi charging iPhone and want to use a fast charger with it, then we recommend this Anker Wireless charging pad that can also fast charge iPhones and Samsung smartphones, too.

Input Charging:

When it comes to powering this wireless charger, it’s done through its Micro-USB port, and the wireless charger comes with a Micro-USB charging cable.

However, in order to get 10W of charging for a Samsung smartphone, you must use a Quick Charge wall charger to power it. We recommend Anker’s PowerPort 4 Wall Charger. The wall charger has a single Quick Charge port and an additional three ports.

The usage of a Micro-USB port with one of Anker’s wireless chargers is somewhat surprising, as USB-C is now the standard and we would think that they would start using USB-C ports with all of their wireless chargers.

However, that’s not the case yet.

Design

Size and Weight:

Like any wireless charging pad, this Anker PowerWave isn’t going to take up a lot of space at all.

The charger has a length/width of 3.9 inches, and a thickness of 0.4 inches. The weight of the charger is 2.4 Ounces.

Functional Components:

On the functional side, once the wireless charger is plugged in and ready to use, you can go ahead and just place your Qi-compatible smartphone on top.

There’s a very small Blue LED power indicator that turns on to indicate that your smartphone is charging. When it comes to using your smartphone while it’s charging, well, it’s going to be quite difficult.

The reason that we say that is because the size of the charger is quite small, and tapping on your phone while it’s on the pad can cause it to offset and stop charging. Also, it’s a hassle to use your smartphone while it’s completely flat. One of the main reason, that wireless charging isn’t the most fun to use.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of the wireless charger is on par from what you can expect from Anker’s products. The charger has a solid build with the top and bottom being a rubber mat that prevents both the wireless charger and your smartphone from sliding.

Tech:

On the tech side, the charger does get a little warm if you’re using the fast wireless charging for a Samsung smartphone.

However, when it comes to standard charging other Qi-compatible smartphones, then there is no overheating.

Reliability

Overall, the reliability of this PowerWave wireless charger is going to be the best for those that own a Galaxy S7 and onwards from Samsung. As this wireless charger is able to provide fast wireless charging (10W) for those phones, only. While supplying only standard wireless charging (5W) for other Qi-compatible smartphones.

Summary:

Power:

Charging is great for those that own Samsung Galaxy S7 and anything after that, as they’re able to have Fast wireless charging with this PowerWave charger.

Design:

The charger has a very small form factor and it has a Blue power light that turns on when your phone is charging.

Build:

The charger does get a little warm if you’re using the 10W charging speed for Samsung smartphones.

It’s best to get this wireless charger if you want a very simple pad and if you own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone to charge it with. That way, you can actually make use of its fast wireless charging capabilities.
