This Apie 10,000mAh power bank has a few unusual aspects to and they make it better than some power banks on the market. That’s what we like most about portable chargers.

Since they can be versatile with what they feature, a portable charger can offer a lot or little depending on what the charging electronic company that created it thinks it should feature.

In this case, we think that the Apie portable charger does a pretty good job of featuring these new kinds of designs that might be helpful for a great many people or few people.

Let’s see if its unique features can make this power bank greater than most out there.

Power Capacity:

The power capacity starts at a relatively high one by being 10,000mAh and that can drop by quite a lot.

This is because the power bank just uses regular Lithium-Ion batteries, and if you’re using the max charging speed of the single port that it has, then that can also affect the Output power capacity that you’re going to receive. As a result, most of the time you’ll be able to use 7,000mAh of power capacity.

That’s quite a lot of power that’s missing, but it’s still enough power capacity to charge smartphones about 3 times or more. Charging tablets can also be done but you won’t be getting the same experience.

You can charge Mini tablets like the iPad Mini 2 and 4 series up to their full power. Although, charging Full-Sized ones will have them charge to about 70% of the way through.

Output Charging:

It only has a single Output charging port and it gives an alright charging speed of 5V/2.1A. We think that the power bank could have done a better job at providing a charging of 2.4A because that way, it would be giving a max charging speed to tablets, but a 2.1A charging speed comes close, though.

If you’re charging smartphones with the portable charger then it’s most likely going to be charging at its full power.

This power bank does not feature Quick Charge, so it won’t charge Quick Charge compatible smartphones at their max charging speeds. Overall, whatever device you’re charging with the Apie portable charger will be able to charge at an alright charging speed but it could have been better.

Input Charging:

Even though we think that the Output charging speed could be better, the Input charging speed is the same at 5V/2.1A and we find that to be pretty good. So long as you’re using a 2.1 Amp wall charger or higher the power bank will be recharged within 6 hours.

Size and Weight:

For a 10,000mAh power bank, this one is small.

Since it has a length of 5.9 inches, a width of 2.4 inches, and a thickness of 0.8 inches. So it’s small enough to easily hold in a single hand and to take anywhere you want. With that said, there has to be some sort of equivalent exchange and there indeed is because it weighs 13.6 ounces and that can yield problems if you think that it’s as light as it looks.

If you’ve got a bag, then that would make portability easier with it.

Functional Components:

This is where the power bank has just a few differences from most other portable chargers on the market.

On the short side, the panel is where you’ll find the USB Output port, the Micro-USB Input port, and off to the side area on the side panel is where there’s a LED light. The LED light must be flipped out and it turns on when you hold the power button down for about 3 seconds.

The thing with the flashlight is that it’s not designed for normal use because the flashlight is just facing down once you flip it out, so it’s meant to be used on a desk while you’re working on something.

The power button can be found on top of the charger, as well as the LCD power capacity display. The power capacity display is shown in 3 digits, and it has a small animation while you recharge the power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The Apie power bank has a pretty solid structure because half of it is made of plastic and then the other half is wrapped in rubber.

The rubber wrapping makes the overall build strong and also makes the power bank charger easier to hold. So dropping the portable charger will have less of a chance of having it take damage because the rubber side is really tough.

Tech:

Not a lot of special tech is used with the Apie, but it does use safety protections like Over-Charge, Over-Current, Short-Circuit, and Surge protections to make charging safe as possible for you and your devices.

It doesn’t make use of very fast charging or special batteries that would result in better longevity for the portable charger.

Reliability

The Apie power bank is reliable but it doesn’t go beyond what it can be and we find that to be a disappointment.

Mainly because we’re at the point when portable chargers are supposed to be able to offer lots of prowess and a beautiful design.

However it falls short with its power capacity and mediocre charging speed, because if a power bank has a single charging port, then it should provide optimal power, this is especially true if it has an initial power capacity of 10,000mAh.

Even though it’s small, it’s still quite heavy at 13.6 ounces. We think that the flashlight is good but not very usable, but the LCD power capacity display is very useful for those that want an accurate reading of the power that’s left.

Summary:

Power:

Conversion of power could use some work since the power capacity that you’re getting is quite a lot lower than the initial one. Also, even though the charging speed of the Output port is 2.1A, it should be faster to provide max charging to devices like tablets.

Design:

Small but heavy. The flashlight is only useful if you plan on using it on a desk. Using an LCD power capacity display is a better way to tell power capacity than just a couple of dots.

Build:

Not the best build, but with about half the charger being covered by rubber, it’s well protected. It could do better on the tech build though because its performance suffers since it doesn’t have the best tech.

Reliability:

It’s reliable, but at a mediocre rate. We say this because the power bank doesn’t offer anything extraordinary.

Specs of the APIE 10,000mAh Portable Charger:

  • Power Capacity: 10,000mAh
  • Output:    5V/2.1A
  • Input:      5V/2.1A Via Micro-USB Input Port
  • LED Power Indicators: LCD Display
  • Size: 5.9 x 2.4 x 0.8 inches

Conclusion

The Apie portable charger does well enough with what it has but there are things that it could do to be better.

By having a better conversion to provide more power to the user, a faster Output charging speed, and a better-designed flashlight. Sure it looks sleek but what good is its look when it’s not capable of being the best?
