Power Delivery is one of the fastest spreading fast charging technologies on the market, and the reason for that is because it’s being used with the new standard of charging which is USB-C. If you already haven’t noticed, most Android smartphones are now using USB-C for sharing files and charging, and so now Micro-USB is basically a thing of the past. Also, USB-C doesn’t just stop at smartphones but it’s also spreading to tablets and also laptops are now using USB-C for charging and that’s mainly where Power Delivery comes in.

There are still plenty of smartphones that use Power Delivery but more importantly, you’re able to charge larger devices with a USB-C Power Delivery charger that you would use to charge your smartphone.

Since USB-C is becoming the new standard, it’s able to be used with many different types of charging electronics. In this case, we’re reviewing this Aukey 27W Power Delivery car charger, so so let’s see if a car charger with PD is as useful as it sounds.

Output Charging:

The usage of Power Delivery charging with a car charger is actually a strange thing because it’s such a powerful charging technology. So let’s see how it holds up with this Aukey car charger.

USB-C Power Delivery Port

The USB-C Power Delivery port on this car charger has a 27W charging speed, and this is really good. It’s not 30W which is usual for most Power Delivery chargers to use at their base, but for a car charger to be using 27W, it means that you’re able to charge quite a few Power Delivery compatible devices at their max charging speed.

With the Power Delivery port on this car charger, you’re able to charge Power Delivery smartphones at their max charging speed. Such as the Essential Phone, the Galaxy S8/S9 which are both Quick Charge and Power Delivery compatible, the Google Pixel 2, and also the iPhone X and iPhone 8. Yes, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 are Power Delivery compatible and you can use them with the USB-C port on this car charger with a USB-C to Lightning charging cable.

Charging larger devices such as laptops and tablets with the USB-C on this car charger can also be useful for things like Apple’s USB-C compatible MacBook. That said, there are still quite a few USB-C laptops on the market that actually require more than 27W of charging power, so this car charger may not be able to charge all Power Delivery compatible laptops.

USB-A Port:

The other port on this Aukey car charger is a USB-A port that has a 5V/2.4A (12W) charging speed. It’s a standard port with a fast charging speed, but it does not feature Quick Charge, it’s still useful for charging any other USB chargeable devices while you’re charging another device with the USB-C port.

The max output of this car charger is 39W, you can use actually use both of the ports at the same time and at their max power. As the USB-C port has a 27W output and the USB-A port has a 12W output.

Design

Functional Components:

It’s a very simple car charger to use with both of the ports being on the same side, and they’re both colored Green. However, there is no LED power light once you plug the car charger into a 12Volt outlet, and that can make it difficult to find the car charger while wanting to charge your devices at night.
