When it comes to Power Delivery wall chargers, most of them just use a single port. However, this Aukey wall charger actually makes use of two ports.
Not only is there two USB-C ports, but each of them also makes use of USB-C Power Delivery. So let’s take a closer look if this is a go-to Power Delivery wall charger if you want to charge Power Delivery compatible smartphones and laptops.
Each of the two USB-C Power Delivery ports has an 18W charging speed. An 18W USB-C Power Delivery charging rate is going to be most useful for charging Power Delivery compatible smartphones.
Some smartphones that are Power Delivery compatible are ones such as the Galaxy S8, S9, Note 9, Essential Phone, Google Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and also the iPhone X and iPhone XS phones.
This much charging power is also useful for charging USB-C tablets, such as the new 2018 iPad Pro that now makes use of a USB-C port.
Also, if you’re wondering how to use a USB-C port with an iPhone, you have to use a USB-C to Lightning cable.
Overall, charging Power Delivery smartphones with this charger enables them to fast charge, and the best part is that you can fast charge two phones at the same time.
That’s because the max output of this charger is 36W, so you can use the full power of the two ports at the same time.
However, when it comes to charging Power Delivery laptops, then this charger is not nearly as useful. If you are planning on charging a Power Delivery laptop, then at the most, a USB-C MacBook would be best.
Other than that, for most USB-C Power Delivery laptops, 18W of charging power may not be enough and it’s best to use a 30W charger or higher.
Size and Weight:
The size of this charger is actually quite a bit larger than a regular USB-A 2-port wall charger, such as Anker’s PowerPort 2 or Aukey’s even small 2-port wall charger, which is one of the smallest on the market.
So this charger has a length of 2.5 inches, a width of 2.4 inches, and a thickness of 1.1 inches. The weight of the charger is 3.7 Ounces.
Of course, it’s not a large charger by any means and it makes use of a retractable AC adapter that improves portability with it by a whole lot. You can basically place it into a pocket once the AC adapter is retracted.
Using it is just like using any other wall charger, with it being plugged into an AC Outlet.
However, one thing that we found lacking was a power indicator to show that the charger is powered and ready to use.
The two USB-C ports are at the front of the charger, and neither of them has lights. It would be nice for each of them to have a Gree LED to signal that charging is happening.
Structure and Material:
The build quality of this charger is pretty good with it having a solid structure, even though it’s made of plastic.
When it comes to retractable AC adapters many people worry about the build quality. The concern is completely valid, as retractable AC adapters are known for breaking and rendering the wall charger useless.
However, for this Aukey wall charger, the AC adapter has a sturdy feel. It doesn’t shuffle around when you take it out and place it back in. It simply snaps out and snaps back in.
Even though this charger is capable of outputting 36W of charging power, doing so does not heat up the charger as it’s not too much power, to begin with.
You should get this charger if you intend to charge either one or two Power Delivery compatible smartphones, as each port is able to output 18W of Power Delivery charging.
Another reason is that the max output is 36W, and therefore you can use the full power of the two ports at once.
It’s not reliable for charging larger, more powerful Power Delivery devices such as laptops.
Charging power is great for Power Delivery smartphones as you can fast charge two of them at the same time.
The charger is a bit larger than your usual 2-port wall charger, but it’s very easy to take anywhere. Especially with the use of a retractable AC adapter.
The built-in AC adapter with this charger holds strong and it doesn’t waiver when you take it out and place it back it.
The reliability of this charger is best for Power Delivery smartphones as there’s not really enough power for charging more powerful and larger devices.
