Car charging may not seem like the most useful charging method, but it can actually be one of the most useful types of chargers that you can use.

That’s because while you’re driving, you won’t be using your phone, and that’s when it’s charged as its fastest speed. Not many people know that even when you’re using a Quick Charge charger or a Power Delivery one when charging a smartphone with its screen on, standard charging is happening. This is to prevent overheating.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look Aukey’s two port Quick Charge car charger with AiPower.

Power

Output Charging:

There are two ports to use on this car charger.

One of them is a Quick Charge 3.0 port and the other is Aukey’s AiPower port.

The Quick Charge 3.0 port is able to fast charge Quick Charge compatible Android smartphones. If you have a Quick Charge 2.0 Android smartphone, which most Android smartphones still are, such as the Samsung Galaxy S10, then the port will still fast charge it. As Quick Charge is backward compatible.

Fast charging a Galaxy S8

The other port has a 12W output, which is basically the max charging power for a standard port. Aukey’s “AiPower” tech is just a fancy way of saying that it’s a powerful standard charging port.

The max output of this car charger is 31.5W. So you can use the full power of the two ports at the same time, with the Quick Charge port outputting 18W and the standard port outputting 12W.

Design

Size and Weight:

Sizes of nearly all car chargers on the market are going to be the same, and that means that most of them are small.

This charger has a length of 2.3 inches, and a thickness of 1.2 inches. The weight of the charger is 1.6 Ounces.

Functional Components:

Just like any other car charger, all you have to do is plug the car charger into a 12Volt output in your car and you’re ready to use it.

The two ports are on the same side, with the Quick Charge port being colored Orange and the AiPower port (standard port) being colored Green. The lack of a LED power light is disappointing, though.

As it’s quite difficult to find the location of the charger at night.

Build

Structure and Material:

The entirety of the car charger is made of plastic, that said, it has a solid construction and feels fine to take out of the port that you place it into without having to feel like it’s going to fall apart.

Tech:

The charger doesn’t heat up even when you’re charging two devices at once, and this is because charging speeds slow down if the temperature of the charger becomes too high.

Reliability

The reliability level for this Aukey car charger is quite simple. If you’ve got a Quick Charge compatible smartphone, then the car charger is going to be the most reliable to use.

The use of a second port and how you’re able to fast charge your Android smartphone while at the same time charging another device makes it even more reliable, too.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is great for Quick Charge smartphone users, and overall, charging two devices at once doesn’t cause a compromise as you can use the two ports at their max power at the same time.

Design:

The use of two contrasting colors with its two ports is a great design choice, but the use of a LED light for night time use would have made the car charger truly perfect.

Build:

The charger holds up well even after removing and replacing it back into a 12Volt outlet many times.

Reliability:

It’s a perfect car charger to get if you have a Quick Charge compatible Android smartphone as you can fast charge it. At the same time, you can also have someone else charge their phone, too.
