Wireless charging has been used with smartphones for many years, and the when the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 were released as being the first iPhones to have wireless charging, wireless charging became even more popular.

Wireless charging pads and stands are continued to be innovated with because it’s such a common feature that many phones now use. Apple themselves attempted to create the AirPower wireless charging pad, a charger that would allow you to charge nearly any Qi wireless charging compatible device no matter where you placed it on the pad. However, due to heating issues, they discounted the product without ever bringing it to the market.

That is why we’re here to review this LC-Q10 Aukey trio wireless charging pad. The charger can charge three devices at once, which not many wireless chargers can do, but there are a few things to know before deciding to purchase this fancy piece of charging tech.

Power

Output Charging:

Alright, so the first thing that we need to let you know that this Aukey wireless charger only features two coils that are built into the charger. It might look like that you can charge three smartphones at the same time with this Aukey wireless charger, but you cannot.

Instead, from left to right, the first two charging pad placements have coils and can wirelessly charge smartphones. The pad to the right does not have a charging coil.

Instead, the charging pad to the right is mainly for Apple watches, and you have to use your magnetic charging cable for your Apple Watch and you have to install at the bottom of the wireless charger, and only then can you charge three devices at once with this charger.

The magnetic charging cable for an Apple Watch is not able to wirelessly charge smartphones, though, so you’re only able to wirelessly charge two smartphones and a single Apple Watch or a case for AirPods at the same time.

Wireless Charging for Smartphones

When it comes to charging your smartphones, the two charging pads for smartphones are capable of fast charging for Samsung and Apple iPhones. Samsung smartphones can get a 10W fast charging speed, and the iPhones that are wireless charging compatible can charge at 7.5W.

Other Qi wireless charging smartphones will charge at 5W.

Input Charging:

Most wireless chargers use Micro-USB or USB-C input ports, and the great thing about that is how easily you can replace a cable that you use for your wireless charger as those types of cables are easily accessible.

For this Aukey wireless charging pad, it uses a DC input port, and the charger comes with a DC wall charger with a connected cable. So the good news is that the charger comes with a wall charger and so you can power the wireless charger right out of the box. The bad news is that if you lose or break the wall charger, then you can’t exactly easily replace it.

Design

Size and Weight:

Since this charger has a total of three ways to charge, it’s going to be larger than any other wireless charger that you have ever used. The Aukey charger has a length of 8.2 inches, a width of 3.5 inches, and a thickness of 0.6 inches. The weight of the charger is 6.6 ounces.

So it will be taking up more space, but at the same time, you can charge three devices at once, plus it’s super lightweight.

Functional Components:

When it comes to using the charger, all you have to do is plug in the wall charger that it comes with to the wireless charger, and you’re ready to use the first two wireless charging pads. To use the charging pad to right, you’re going to need to have an Apple Watch magnetic charging cable.

To connect the Magnetic charging cable to the wireless charger you have to take off the backplate, and connect the cable to the USB-A port that’s at the back. There is a slot where you place the magnetic end to the pad.

At the top of the charger, there are also three LED lights. One is already Green to show that the charger is powered on, and then the other two are red.

If you’re charging from the two built-in pads, then the other two LED lights turn Green.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this Aukey Tri wireless charger is pretty good, but if there’s one setback is that the bottom of the charger is made of plastic. Just taking a look at the charger from the top, you would think that the bottom would be aluminum but it’s plastic.

It’s not a big deal, but it does make the charger feel lower quality than its otherwise great presentation.

Tech:

Since this charger can wirelessly charge three devices at the same time, it does get a little warm during charging. However, since the charger is large, this also gave Aukey a great chance to mitigate any heating problems and they did well.

Reliability

If you’re considering purchasing this Aukey Trio wireless charging pad, you should first know that you’re not able to charge three devices at the same time right out of the box.

You are only able to charge two smartphones at the same time because two charging coils are built-into the charger. To charge a third device, which would be an Apple Watch or a charging case for AirPods, then you would need your Magnetic charging cable to plug into the wireless charger.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power for this wireless charger is great. As you can wirelessly fast charge two Samsung phones at the same at 10W, or two iPhones at 7.5W, on top of that you can also wirelessly charge an Apple Watch. That said, you would need to provide your Magnetic charging cable because this wireless charger does not come with one.

Design:

The charger is large, but it’s lightweight. It’s also easy to use, as it already comes with a wall charger to use it with, and there are three LED lights at the top.

Build:

The build quality of this charger is “Okay” we think that the bottom of the charger should be made of Aluminum to truly make this feel like a premium type of a charger.

Reliability:

The reliability of this Aukey wireless charger can catch some by surprise, because you may think that you can charge three devices at the same, as there are three circles at the top of the charger, but that’s not true.

The third pad is meant for connecting a magnetic charging cable to and charging your Apple Watch with. There are only two charging pads that are functional out of the box.

Conclusion:

Aukey’s 3 in 1 wireless charger is a nifty type of a charger because you can charge three devices with it. Such as wirelessly charging two smartphones and an Apple Watch. However, this does not mean that you will be able to charge three devices, because if you want to charge an Apple Watch, you will need to have your magnetic charging cable to plug into this wireless charger, and only then will this be a Trio wireless charging pad.
