The aesthetics of a product that we use is important. Most of the time we don’t like to think that, but we do focus on the way that something looks, but it’s something that stands out the most. When it comes to the charging electronics that we use, most people want something that isn’t too large or bulky, such as mini power banks, wall chargers that have two ports, and in this case, we’re talking about wireless chargers. Well, in general, wireless chargers don’t have a larges size.

That said, most wireless chargers have very similar designs. With wireless charging pads just having a circular shape and charging stands using a rectangular shape. It’s mostly what’s normal and that can look boring at times. This Aukey Luna Wilress Charging Stand does things a little differently with the way that it looks and that’s one the remain reasons that it has caught the attention of so many people.

However, are looks really everything and should you purchase this Aukey wireless charger based on the way that it looks?

Well, how about we take a closer look.

Power

Output Charging:

Charging power with wireless chargers are not going to impress anybody. As wireless charging is actually slower than wired charging for almost all devices that are Qi compatible. Ther reason for that is because smartphones these days are compatible with Quick Charge or USB-C Power Delivery, therefore they have many faster-charging rates.

That said, there is Fast charging available with wireless chargers, but this Aukey Luna Wireless charging pad does not feature it. That’s one of the first flaws that we wanted to point out with this charger. The flaw is that this charger has an awesome design to it that makes it look like it’s from the future and yet it’s only able to output 5W of power or 5V/1.0A.

A 1 Amp charging rate is very slow, and that charging rate for Samsung Qi-compatible smartphones or the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 is even worse. Why is that? That’s because those smartphones are able to charge faster with Fast Wireless charging. With Samsung smartphones being able to charge at 5V/2.0A charging rates, while the iPhone X and iPhone 8 are able to charge at 5V/1.5A.

We’re not completely, smashing this wireless charger though, since if you do own smartphone that isn’t compatible with Fast Wireless charging then this wireless charger is completely fine. As you’ll be receiving the optimal charging rate that you can get. That said, if you’re someone that does own a smartphone that capable of Fast Wireless charging, and want the most out of this type of charging electronics then we recommend one that actually features Fast Charging tech.

Input Charging:

In order to actually power this wireless charger to charge your smartphone, you have to use a 2.1 Amp USB wall charger or higher. This charger uses a Micro-USB input port to be powered, and overall, it’s a universal set-up that you can use right out of the box. However, this wireless charger DOES NOT come with an AC adapter, so you have to use your own. Just make sure that it’s 2.1 Amps or higher, If not, then we recommend getting this wall charger to power it.

Design

Size and Weight:

You will have no problems with the size of this Luna wireless charger. It has a length and width of 6.8 inches. The thickness fo the charger is 0.4 inches. The weight of the charger is 4.8 Ounces. Placing it on your desktop is one of the best places to have it, as it’s close by.

Functional Components:

Using this wireless charger stand is basically the same as most others. As once you connect the Micro-USB charging cable to this wireless charger, you can just place your smartphone on the stand and it’ll start charging. Also, at the bottom of this charger, is where you’ll find a Green LED light that turns on while your smartphone is charging and it constantly stays on until you remove your smartphone from the charger.

The LED light isn’t very bright and it’s rather dim and also very small too.

When it comes to the charging experience, this charger actually uses 3 charging coils. Now, this is basically the standard with most wireless charging stands, since with the use of 3 coils, you’re able to place your smartphone either vertically or horizontally. However, the problem with using your smartphone while it’s on this charger charging is that it’s not stable.

The wireless charging is held up by a two-bracket stand and when you press on your smartphone to do something then it wobbles around a bit. So using your smartphone while it’s charging with this wireless charging isn’t the best experience, and it actually would have made more sense to have just made this a flat pad instead of a stand. That’s because, with a flat charging pad, you’re able to move around smartphone around from different angles and with the use of 3 coils, charging would be constant no matter how you move your smartphone around, as long as it’s on the wireless charger.

Does this Luna Wireless charger look very cool? Absolutely. Does the presentation translate into an awesome experience when using your smartphone? Not really.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this charger goes in hand with the way that you use it. The round charging pad of the charger is built well, but it would have made better sense to have the base that holds it up to be larger and have more support. What you’re left with is a weak base that doesn’t support the charging disc enough for a smooth experience with a smartphone while it charges wirelessly.

Tech:

This wireless charger does get a little warm, but that’s normal when it comes to wireless charging in general.

Reliability

The reliability of this charger is good but not good enough if you have a smartphone that is capable of Fast Wireless charging. If you do have one, then we highly recommend purchasing one of those, instead of this one as you won’t be getting the most out of your wireless charging experience.

Summary:

Power:

It only has standard wireless charging, which doesn’t matter if you own a smartphone that doesn’t use Fast Wireless charging, so the charging rate is optimal. That said, if you’ve got a Samsung smartphone or iPhone X / iPhone 8 then getting a more powerful charger is a better decision.

Design:

The design of this charger is very small and slim too, and it’s what makes it look like it’s from the future. However, when it comes to actually using your smartphone while it’s charging, things fall apart as the base isn’t the best.

Build:

The use of a better base for this Luna Wireless charger would have made using your smartphone while it charged a better experience.

Reliability:

It’s a reliable enough charger but doesn’t cater to Fast Wilrees charging even with its futuristic looks.

Conclusion:

This Aukey Luna Qi wireless charger has one of the best designs on the wireless charging market, and we think with the use of Fast Wireless charging and a better base for holding it, that it could indeed be the best. For now, though, it’s mostly about the looks.
