If you have a USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptop and a Power Delivery smartphone, then owning a PD wall charger can be one of the best chargers to own. Even a PD wall charger with a single PD port with a 30W charging speed or higher can be useful for charging a laptop and phone.

However, most laptops need more than 30W of charging power, and you might want to charge your laptop and phone at the same time rather than charging one at a time. Then this Aukey 65W Dual PD charger can be your go-to charger at all times.

Power

Output Charging:

So the two USB-C PD ports on this wall charger have different power outputs, and it’s easy to distinguish the two ports.

The top port has a laptop logo on top of it, and this USB-C port is the one that has a higher power output of 65W if you’re only charging a single device with this charger. 65W of charging power offers a lot of flexibility with what you’re able to charge it with, and that’s really what Power Delivery is all about.

That’s because, with 65W, you can charge many PD laptops near their max charging speed. This is true for MacBook that uses a USB-C port, many Chromebooks, and many others, too. You can also charge smartphones with a 65W port, but charging phones are more for the bottom port.

The bottom port has an 18W charging speed, and this can fast charge all smartphones that are Power Delivery compatible. If you have an Android smartphone that uses a USB-C port or an iPhone X or newer, an 18W charging speed can provide a faster charging rate than a regular USB-A port.

However, when charging two devices at once, the power output for the top USB-C port changes from 65W to 45W, but the bottom USB-C PD port remains the same at an 18W charge rate.

So even when you’re charging two devices, the top PD laptop is still powerful enough for charging a laptop at a relatively fast speed.

Design

Size and Weight:

Even with its extremely high power output, this wall charger is still tiny. It has a length and width of 2 inches and a thickness of 1 inch. The weight of the charger is 3.6 Ounces.

It’s so small that you may lose track of the charger, but at the same time, the charger can be right beside you by having it in your pocket.

Functional Components:

The charger has a minimal design to match its form factor. The two USB-C ports are on the same side, and they’re colored orange. The top port has a laptop logo above it to show that it’s the higher output port.

The AC adapter is retractable and practically makes the wall charger a perfect square. There’s also a power light above the two ports that turns on once you plug the wall charger in.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this wall charger is second to very few on the market. The part that you could worry about breaking would be the AC adapter, but even that is sturdy to use. Retractable AC adapters have been used long enough that they don’t break easily.

Tech:

Even with its 65W power output, this charger does not overheat. This can likely be attributed to its use of a GaN chip used with this wall charger. The chip can better manage heat during charging.

Reliability

With its use of two Power Delivery ports, you’re able to charge a Power Delivery compatible smartphone and fast charge most phones on the market. Being able to charge laptops faster when charging only a single device can be very helpful if you need a faster recharge speed.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is great, with 65W being able to charge a wide range of laptops. Being able to fast charge a smartphone at the same time can also be useful.

Design:

Laptops that use a DC port for charging usually use a charging brick with similar power outputs to USB-C PD wall chargers. The great thing about this Aukey charger is that it has a 65W power output that can match up to those larger and more cumbersome chargers but with a tiny size.

Build:

You would think that this charger would overheat during charging, but that doesn’t happen due to the use of GaN tech.

Reliability:

If you’re searching for a replacement charger for your laptop that uses a USB-C PD port for charging and wants to be able to charge your phone simultaneously, then this Aukey wall charger is a good choice.
