Power strips are likely one of your most-used appliances in your house, and it’s likely because you can power many of your appliances from them at once. Two factors can change how useful a power strip can be though.

Those two factors are the form factor and its use of charging ports.

This Aukey PowerHub XL power strip is likely one of the most useful power strips that we have reviewed. There are simply so many AC outlets and charging ports to use, that we don’t think that there’s any way for this power strip not to be useful.

Power

Output Charging:

Of course, the main thing that you’re going to be using are the AC outlets, and there are 12 to use. For a power strip that is only six inches tall, you can power twelve appliances with it at the same time.

The even more impressive part is that the max output of the power strip is 3500W, and this is big because most power strips have a 1875W power output. So, you’re able to do a lot more with this power strip, such as having a blender on even when you’re using a lamp or another appliance at the same time.

Each of the outlets is 3-prong outlets, you can connect nearly any appliance to the power strip, especially laptops chargers. In the above photo, we have a Dyson V10 vacuum charging, a laptop, a Microsoft Surface Go, and a blender connected to the AC outlets on this power strip at the same time. At the same time, there are three phones charging from the USB ports.

USB Charging Ports

Another main highlight of this power strip is its charging ports. There are five ports to be used.

There are three USB-A ports that each have an output of 12W (5V/2.4A). None of the USB-A ports feature Quick Charge, so you can’t fast charge with them.

There are two USB-C ports that each have a 15W charging speed. The USB-C ports do not feature Power Delivery, so you can’t use it to charge USB-C Power Delivery laptops like the MacBook. Well, you can, but a MacBook will charge very slowly with the USB-C ports on this power strip.

However, charging the USB-C ports with smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, 9, Note 10, Galaxy S10, S20 or even iPhone, will prove to be very useful. This is because 15W can fast charge most phones, even though fast charging for phones with a USB-C port is usually done at 18W, but a 15W charging speed is still enough.

Design

Size and Weight:

The great part of a tower strip is that they barely take up any space because rather than the outlets and charging ports being spread out, they’re all consolidated into one space. The height of this power strip is 6.7 inches and the width of it is 4.6 inches. The weight is about 2 pounds

Not a large power strip at all, and you won’t have any problems with finding a place for it to fit.

Functional Components:

There are four columns for the outlets, and each column has three AC outlets to use. The charging ports are all in a single column with there being three Green USB-A ports at the top and the two Orange USB-C ports at the bottom.

This tower power strip has a power button at the top that turns on all the AC outlets ad the USB ports. Once you turn it on there’s a Green power light circle that turns on around the power button.

One problem that you might encounter is that a plug may cover the nearby AC outlet, which prevents you from you using it. Take a look at the photos to see what we mean.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power strip can be compared to an Apple product. At least, that is what we found, it has a cylindrical shape to it, and there are very minimal design queues, that make it look very sleek and seamless no matter where you place it.

Tech:

Since it features 12 outlets, you better hope that this PowerHub XL is safe to use. Well, it is. There are many protections inside of it that prevent it from overheating and if you go over the 3500W power limit the power strip automatically turns off.

Reliability

This may very well be the most reliable power strip that you own. It has a small form factor, while at the same time using twelve AC outlets with a 3500W power output. On top of that, there are five USB charging ports to use.

It’s also easy to power off with the press of a button.

Summary:

Power:

The power output is great for both the AC outlets and the charging ports. The only thing that we found lacking was Power Delivery with the USB-C ports.

Design:

The form factor of this power strip is great, as it fits so many things in a small space. The use of a power button makes it easier to power on and off, rather than plugging it in and out.

Build:

The build is on standard as other Aukey products so it has a solid build that will last for a very long time. Granted, that it doesn’t fall from a high height, as it’s not built like a tank.

Reliability:

With its 12 outlets and five USB ports, you’re able to power many appliances and charge another five devices at the same time.
