Bluetooth speakers aren’t the newest thing to the audio world and that’s because there are quite a lot of them on the market currently. One of the most common types of speakers is waterproof ones. It seems that nearly every brand on the market wants to create a waterproof speaker so that people will find more value with it. Even though waterproofing is great with basically any device that you purchase, not every speaker needs waterproofing.

Maybe you just want a speaker that puts the waterproofing aside and focuses more on its sound quality and still looking awesome at the same time. A Bluetooth speaker that you can place on your computer desk or maybe for a party that shows that it’s made through great innovation.

Well, that’s what we’re here to review, which would be this BlitzWolf BW-AS1 Aluminum Bluetooth speaker.

Power

Sound Performance:

The first and most important part that we want to cover for this BlitzWolf Aluminum speaker is its sound quality. The sound quality of this BlitzWolf speaker is absolutely exquisite and booming, at the same time, simply because the two driving speaker on each side is able to deliver a sound experience that will want you hearing every sound that you know.

Base

The base of the speaker is deep and hits hard when your music calls for it. In fact, the base was so well done with this speaker that you can really feel the air move if you keep your hand close to it. However, we recommend not maxing out volume if your music is constantly base heavy, as the dual driving speakers can definitely get a workout from it. However, that’s okay, because having the music at medium volume is all you’ll ever really need.

Very Powerful Volume

Speaking of volume, this BlitzWolf speaker can get quite loud. If you’re simply working on your computer with writing an essay or studying in your room; placing the volume at level 1 or level 2 is basically what sufficed for us. Anything louder and it would have been a little too distracting. Another thing, those level volumes are really for soothing music such as classical or jazz. Both of which the speaker carries out quite well.

Perhaps something that you may or may not have experienced with other Bluetooth speakers, is that this Blitzwolf BW-AS1 Aluminum speaker really digs deep with the music that you’re listening to. As a result, you hear things better than the speaker on your smartphone, it basically equates to listening to music with earbuds, just without the earbuds, though.

Placement

When it comes to placement of where you should place this speaker, well, it varies depending on what you’re listening to and how you want to listen to it. Having it about two feet away from you with the volume set to level 2 can provide an optimal listening experience. At the same time, this speaker is perfectly capable of being in one corner of your room and spreading music throughout your room.

Well also tested it within a living room, and we found that turning the volume higher was necessary as there was more room for the sound to go. While taking the speaker outside is where it was the most vulnerable, and you’d need to have the volume even higher.

Conversation Performance:

Since this is a Bluetooth speaker, you’re able to have calls while you’re connected to it. As it acts as a speaker and a mic, so once you’re connected to a call, you can use the BlitzWolf speaker to solely communicate while you’re on the phone.

Keeping your smartphone closer to the speaker is the best way to get the best over-the-phone voice performance.

Battery Power:

Since this is a wireless Bluetooth speaker, it, of course, uses a battery and this speaker has a 5,200mAh battery capacity. This is actually very high when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, as most on the market have a 2,000mAh battery or sometimes lower. It’s with this much battery power that you’re able to have a 7-11 hour listening experience. However, that’s really only under optimal conditions, because if you’re listening to your music at a louder volume that can use more battery power and give you less battery duration.

When it comes to recharging this speaker, you can do so via the Micro-USB input port at the back of the speaker. It has a 5V/2.0A recharging speed, so we recommend using a 2 Amp USB wall charger or higher to recharge this power bank as fast as possible, which will result in a full recharge within 3 hours.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this BlitzWolf speaker isn’t exactly small, sure you can hold this speaker in your hand, but at the same time, the weight, size, and overall design language make this the type of speaker that you place down and experience.

It has a length of 8.5 inches, a height of 2.4 inches, and a width of 2.5 inches. The weight of the speaker is about 5 pounds.

Functional Components:

Before we actually get to the functional parts of this speaker, first we just want to commend BlitzWolf for doing an outstanding job with the aesthetics of this speaker. It has a cylindrical form factor and the curves of this speaker are done so well without any mistakes, at least with the one that we’ve received.

A Piece of Art

At the front is where you have the speaker holes and there are a bunch. At the back of the speaker is where you’ll also find a few speaker holes that are larger, that’s also where the Micro-USB input and AUX port is. This BlitzWolf speaker actually comes with a Micro-USB charging cable and an AUX cable, as a result, you can use either of the ports right out of the box.

The use of an AUX port is something that we really appreciate that BlitzWolf added, as we’re in an era where wireless is becoming the norm, the use of an AUX port to be used with an AUX cable is something that is comforting to see, just in case you ever need to use it.

Speaking of wireless and connecting your smartphone to this speaker, let’s touch on all that and the buttons of this speaker.

Buttons

There are a total of only four buttons on this speaker, and we find it to be the perfect amount, as having too many buttons can definitely complicate things.

Power Button – Of course, the power button is used to turn on the speaker once you hold it down for about 10 seconds, and you can turn off the speaker by holding it down again. Once the speaker is on, you can then connect it to your smartphone. Also, once the speaker is on, there’s a single Blue LED light that turns on.

Just make sure that Bluetooth is on with your smartphone, and that it’s scanning for Bluetooth devices. Once your smartphone is finding the speaker, it should be labeled as BW-AS1. Tap on the speaker in your Bluetooth settings and it will pair. Then you’re ready to play your music.

Play / Pause / Answer Call Button – This next button is a multi-functional button that’s able to play or pause your music. If you’ve got a call coming, then you can just press the button to answer it.

Volume Up and Volume Down Button – The next two are the Volume increase and decrease buttons. You can also control the volume of the speaker from your smartphone and that’s really the way that we found we were adjusting the volume the most.

Build

The build quality of this BlitzWolf BW-AS1 speaker is very good structurally with its use of a full-body Andonized Aluminum shell.. It looks awesome and when you actually hold the speaker in your hand you can feel the rigidity of it too.

The buttons also feel great to press, they’re not clicky but they are responsive.

However, if there’s one thing that we mentioned at the beginning of this review that you should remember is that this speaker is not water-resistant. At all, so keep it away from liquids.

Summary:

Sound Quality

The sound quality isn’t the best in the industry, but it’s very good for what you’re paying for, and we found the music to be quite enriched. It did get tinny when it was at its loudest, though.

Functional Components:

Actually using this speaker is quite easy. All four buttons are lined up next to each other and once the speaker is on, you can just scan with your smartphone for it and connect to the speaker. The use of an AUX port is welcoming if you want to be a little old-fashioned in 2018.

Build

The build is absolutely solid with its Andonized Aluminum shell, but we’re speaking from a build quality point of view, It terms of ruggedness, this isn’t a rugged portable speaker at all and neither is it waterproof.

Conclusion:

BlitzWolf has definitely made a Bluetooth speaker that not only sounds pretty good with many different types of music, but we think that they’ve made a statement with their bold design.
