The USB-C port is one of the most important innovations in recent years for tech and that’s because of how versatile and powerful the port is. The USB-C port is present on basically on all Android smartphones now, and it can be found on many laptops, and that’s because of Power Delivery charging, so you’re able to use the same charger across different types of portable devices. There’s also the fast transfer speeds that come with USB-C and how the port itself is reversible so you’ll be placing a cable inside the right way every time.

However, when it comes to USB-C ports on laptops, there is a bit of a flaw, and that would be that brands may add few USB-C ports, and barely any other connections on a laptop. So your best bet would be to get a USB-C adapter, and that’s why we’re here to review this Aukey 12 in 1 USB-C adapter that has a bunch of connections.

Ports and Features

There are a total of twelve ways to use this Aukey USB-C adapter, and we were able to use the adapter with a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5.

USB-C Power Delivery Port

Most laptops that use a USB-C port are also able to charge from them via Power Delivery charging, so if you’re worried that you won’t be able to charge your laptop when connecting this adapter, don’t be. That’s because this adapter has a USB-C Power Delivery port that is capable of taking 100W of charging power and charging your laptop.

For our test, we connected Aukey’s Omnia 100W GaN Power Delivery wall charger to the USB-C Power Delivery port on the adapter. The charger was able to output about 40W to the Lenovo laptop and was charging it at its max speed. So the adapter does not hinder charging speed when connected to a laptop.

Two HDMI ports

There are two HDMI ports, and each of them is capable of displaying 4K at 30Hz. So the HDMI ports are useful, but you’re able to get only a 30Hz refresh rate with them which is considerably slower than the average 60Hz that most screens are standard at. That said, it’s understandable considering that this is an adapter with another ten ports to use.

SD and Micro SD Card Slots

There is a regular SD card slot and a Micro SD card slot for sharing files with your laptop. The card slots work the same way that a USB port would work. In this case, you’re just popping in an SD card to share files and should be able to find the SD card files in File Explorer.

Gigabet Ethernet Port & VGA Port

On the narrow side of this adapter is where you’ll find the Ethernet port and the VGA display port. Thankfully, we had a 1 Gigabit connection via Verizon, connected the ethernet cable to the port, and tested out the internet speed with fast.com. We ended up getting 880 Mbps, which is very close to a Gigabit connection, and is is some blazing fast internet.

The VGA port may seem like an odd addition to a USB-C adapter because some may see it as an old or outdated port, but it‘s very much helpful to connecting to TVs or monitors in case you want to extend your laptop screen to a monitor.

Two USB 2.0 Ports and Three USB 3.0 Ports

The other long length side of this Aukey USB-C adapter features data transfer ports. Two USB 2.0 ports are capable of a 480Mbps transfer speed, and then three USB 3.0 ports are capable of a 5Gbps transfer speed. One of the USB 3.0 ports is a USB-C port, and appreciate that they added a USB 3.0 USB-C port as it’s more of what’s becoming the standard and can easily be used with a USB-C to USB-C cable or a USB-C to Lightning cable for iPhone users wanting to share files with their laptop and smartphone.

Design

Size and Weight:

Considering that this Aukey USB- C adapter has twelve ways to connect, it’s very small. The adapter has a length of 5 inches, a width of 2.4 inches, and a thickness of 0.6 inches. The weight of the adapter is 4.3 ounces. The adapter doesn’t get in the way, and we think that’s a perfect size for everything that it features.

Functional Components:

All the usable parts of this USB-C adapter can be found on the sides, and there is a very small LED white power light once you plug the adapter into a laptop. The built-in USB-C cable that’s used to plug into laptops is quite long, and it’s a bit longer than most other USB-C hub adapters.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this Aukey 12 in 1 USB-C Hub is great. The adapter is made of Aluminum Alloy, so it’s a bit heavy, but it feels very premium. The bottom of the adapter has two rubber pads to make sure that the adapter doesn’t slide around.

Tech:

The adapter does heat up quite a bit when you’re passing through charging from the adapter to your laptop. That’s what we experienced in our case when Power Delivery charging with it and having a few other things connected to the adapter at the same time. It’s understood though as the adapter is a bridge for functioning a lot of things at the same time and it only got warm, and not hot.

Reliability

This Aukeuy CB-C78 12 in 1 USB-C adapter is built on reliability. It gives you the ability to connect an assortment of devices to your laptop at the same time, so they are barely compromised if any. You’ve got charging, ways to share files, have a faster internet connection via its Gigabit Ethernet connection, and a few display ports.
