Portable chargers can be one of the most useful charging electronics that you can own, as there are no limits on where you can take them. One of the best parts about portable charges is that you can have the same charging technology that’s used with a wall charger, and that way you can very well use USB-C Power Delivery tech to charge a USB-C compatible laptop while you’re on the move and you won’t have to rely on an AC outlet. There’s also Quick Charge but that’s quite common with portable chargers, but if there’s one charging tech that’s useful when implemented with portable chargers it would have to be magnetic chargers that are able to charge an Apple Watch.

That’s what this CHOETECH 5,000mAh Apple Watch Magnetic portable charger features. These types of power banks are one of the most useful to use if you own an Apple Watch since they can recharge it while you’re out and about. Not only that, but some of the them also have the ability to charge smartphones and other USB chargeable devices.

Power

Power Capacity:

This CHOETECH power bank is basically a mini power bank, and that is true for both its size and the capacity. That said, the 5,000mAh power capacity of this charger does put it into the higher up scale on mini power banks, as a 3,000mAh power capacity is usually the starting range for mini chargers. Of course, let’s see how much of this power you’re actually able to use towards charging your Apple Watch and other devices that you may want to charge with this power bank.

3.7 x 5,000 = 18,500 / 5 = 3,700

So you’re able to use about 3,700mAh of the 5,000mAh initial power capacity that this charger has. Since the most of the Apple Watch versions have a 250mAh battery, and the Apple Watch Series 3 has a slightly high battery capacity of 279mAh, you’re able to get a lot of full charges for these watches and we’re talking about 12 full charges, if all you’re using this power bank for is charging your Apple Watch. CHOETECH may state that you’ll get about 6 full charges for watches but that might be because they’re taking into account that you can charge a smartphone with this power bank.

Speaking of charging smartphones, if you are going to charge a smartphone with this power bank, then that can very well take the entire power capacity that this charger has. Just something to know if you want to still be able to charge an Apple Watch after charging an iPhone X or an iPhone 8 because you likely won’t have any power left on the power bank as this is still a low capacity power bank.

Output Charging:

There are two ways to use this power bank. There’s the main reason that you’re getting this charger, which is the magnetic charger that’s able to charge your Apple Watch and it has a 5V/1.0A charging speed that can charge it at its max charging speed.

One other way to use this power bank is to use the USB-A port and you can use any charging cable with it to charge smartphones, tablets, and other USB chargeable devices. The USB port has a 5V/2.1A charging speed and that’s quite a fast standard charging speed, just don’t expect Quick Charge, because this power bank does not feature it.

Input Charging:

To recharge this power bank you have to use to the Micro-USB input and it has a 5V/2.0A recharging speed, so we recommend that you use a 2 Amp wall charger or higher to recharge this power bank at its max charging speed. That said, this power bank actually comes with charging dock that has a built-in Micro-USB tip to recharge the power bank, so when you use the charging dock, just make sure that you have it connected to a 2 Amp wall charger.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this power bank is quite small and it’s definitely a mini power bank that you’ll have no problems taking anywhere that you want. As the charger has a length of 4.9 inches, a width of 1.6 inches and a thickness of 0.9 inches. The weight of the power bank is 9 Ounces. So the charger can easily be taken in your hand or your pocket anywhere that you want.

Functional Components:

The power bank is very easy to use as there are very pieces that you actually have to interact with. On the side, is where you have the USB-A port and the Micro-USB input. Then at the top of the power bank is where there’s the magnetic charger to charge an Apple Watch and also 4 White LED power capacity indicators. There is no power button this power bank, as charging automatically starts with either of the charging options.

Then there the charging dock, which has a built-in USB cable that you have to connect to a wall charger, and once it’s connected you can then place your power bank into the dock for recharging.

One annoyance with the dock is that when you’re taking your power bank out of the dock, the power bank requires two hands to remove because one has to hold the dock down and the one has to remove the power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of the power bank itself is very good as it’s all made nearly of Aluminum. The charging dock, on the other hand, is the cheapest part as it’s made of plastic.

Tech:

The power bank can get a little warm if you’re charging an Apple Watch and another device at the same time.

Reliability

The reliability of this power bank is very good to get many full charges for an Apple Watch or for charging a smartphone to its full power at least once. It’s not very reliable for charging a smartphone to full power and also giving multiple full charges for the Apple Watch as there simply isn’t enough power capacity for that.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity of this power bank can provide multiple charges for the Apple Watch, and it also has a good amount for charging a smartphone to its full power. The only negative is that there’s not enough power capacity to fulfill both of those full charging requests.

Design:

The size of the power bank is very small and can easily be portable with. Taking the power bank out of the charging dock can be a pain.

Build:

The build of the power bank is very good as it’s all made of Aluminum or at least, most of it. The dock is made of plastic though, however, if it were made of Aluminum that would have increased the price of this power bank.

Reliability:

The reliability of this power bank is great for charging an Apple Watch and having enough power to charge a smartphone in those emergency situations.
