Power banks come in many different shapes and sizes, but one of the most commonly used types of portable chargers are ones that are cylindrically shaped. That’s because those types of power banks also use cylindrically shapes batteries and the benefit of using those types of batteries is that they’re easier to manufacture. However, Lithium Polymer batties that are flat are more useful when a power bank is designed to be slim and that’s exactly why this Crave Plus Aluminum portable charger is so useful.

It has a very small size and slim form factor like any smartphone on the market and yet it holds quite a high power capacity and at the same time, the charging power from this power bank is very powerful. So let’s see if it’s all too good to be true or if this 10,000mAh power bank has it all.

Power

Power Capacity:

This Crave Plus power bank has a 10,000mAh power capacity and that’s very impressive when you consider its very slim form factor and how this charger can fit into your pocket. At the same time, this is basically the norm with most 10,000mAh power banks and especially when they’re using Lithium Polymer batties. Of course, the initial capacity isn’t what you’re actually able to use with this charger and that’s because power capacity is lost through conversion during charging.

So let’s calculate the average amount of power capacity that you can actually use.

3.7 x 10,000 = 37,000 / 5 = 7400

Standard Capacity

If you’re charging non-Quick charge compatible devices with this Crave power bank then you’re going to be able to receive about 7,000mAh of output capacity. This means charging the iPhone 8 with its 1,821mAh battery capacity will result in about 4 full charges if all you’re doing is recharging the iPhone 8. While charging the high capacity iPhone X with its 2,716mAh battery will result in 2.5 full charges.

Quick Charge Capacity

The reason that you’re going to be receiving less with a Quick Charge compatible smartphone when you charge it with this power bank is because the faster charging rate decreases the conversions rate. So if you’re charging a Galaxy S8 that’s compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, then that will result in about 6,000mAh of output capacity. As a result, you’re able to recharge the Galaxy S8 to its full power about 2 times.

It’s not really negative, as all power banks that use Quick Charge have a worse conversion rate because Quick Charge is faster charging.

Charging tablets with a 7,000mAh average output capacity can be done with this charger, heck, you can even charge a USB-C compatible laptop with this power bank as it features a USB-C port. That said, it’s going to take the entirety capacity of this power bank to get larger devices like that to full power.

Output Charging:

Charging your devices with this power bank is very impressive and that’s because it has two very powerful output charging ports.

USB-A Port – The USB-A port with this power bank features Quick Charge 3.0 and that can charge Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 smartphones at their max charging rates. You can also charge Non-compatible smartphones with the USB-A port as it has a 5V/2.4A charging speed for standard devices.

USB-C Port – The other output port with this power bank is the USB-C one. You can use it to charge USB-C compatible devices with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. Or you can even use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable to charge the iPhone X or iPhone 8 at a faster charging rate. This USB-C port has a charging output of 5V/3.0A.

That said, this USB-C port does not feature Power Delivery and therefore it won’t charge your Power Delivery compatible devices at their max charging speeds.

Input Charging:

There are two input ports on this power bank. There’s the Micro-USB input and the USB-C port can also be used as an input too, that said, you can only use one at a time. Each of the input ports has the same recharge speed this for this 10,000mAh power bank and that would be 5V/2.4A. So if you want to recharge this Crave charger at its max charging speed, then you have to use a 5V/2.4A USB wall charger.

Design

Size and Weight:

Size of this Crave Plus Aluminum power bank is easily the best part of it. Sure the charging power and capacity are great, but just how easily you’re able to be portable with it is what matters most. It has a length of 6.2 inches, a width of 3.1 inches, and a thickness of 0.4 inches. The weight of the charger 9 Ounces.

It’s the same size of an iPhone 8 Plus, so you can basically fit this into the same pocket where your smartphone is and have it charging at the same time. Using your smartphone while stacking it on top of this power bank is also a very easy thing to do too.

Functional Components:

It’s a very easy power bank to use with its very few functional parts that are very close to each other. All the charging ports are on a single side, and then on the long length side is where you’ll find the power button and 4 White LED power capacity indicators.

You do have to press the power button to begin charging.

Build

Structure and Material:

This is a very well built power bank and that’s because the outer shell is made of Aluminum. It might not exactly be shockproof but we think that it can survive a fall or two. The charging ports feel great to use and hold strong to either USB-C, USB-A or Micro-USB charging cables that you connect to it.

Tech:

This charger does get a little warm when you’re charging two devices at once. The moments that it can get the most heated is if you’re recharging this power bank using the Micro-USB input port and at the same time charging two devices with the USB-C and USB-A port. That’s called Pass-Through charging and even though it’s useful, it actually puts quite a heavy strain on the battery and so we recommend not using Pass-Through charging consistently as it can be bad in the long-run.

Reliability

It’s a very reliable power bank, but perhaps when it comes to the charging power, this Crave power bank is going to be most useful for charging smartphones that are Quick Charge compatible and also use USB-C as those two charging technologies are most prevalent with this power bank.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity of this charger is enough to charge most smartphones multiple times and the charging speed is very good for Quick Charge compatible devices and non-Quick Charge devices too. It also uses two Input ports.

Design:

Easily the best part of this power bank is the size as it’s the same size as most smartphones on the market and this is true even when it comes to its thickness.

Build:

The build quality of this charger is very good as it’s all made of Aluminum. Its use of Pass Though charging is useful at the same time, it can damage the battery if you’re using it constantly because of increased heat.

Reliability:
This is a very reliable charger to use for Quick Charge devices and any other devices that are able to charge using USB.
