Power Delivery portable chargers are growing and for good reasons too, as Power Delivery charging tech is basically the more universal type of charging tech that you can use to charge a wider-range of devices. Instead of having a separate charger for your laptop and also for your smartphone, Power Delivery is able to bridge the gap, as you can charge a Google Pixel 2 and a USB-C MacBook with the same Power Delivery charger. When you implement Power Delivery with portable chargers, it becomes even more apparent that PD charging is the future as you can charge larger devices while you’re on the move quite easily.

In this review, we;’re going be checking out this Crave Plus Pro 20,000mAh Power Delivery portable charger. This is from a brand that has only a few power banks on the market and we think that one of the few featuring Power Delivery just goes to show that they know how useful Power Delivery is becoming. So let’s see what this one has to offer.

Power

Power Capacity:

The initial power capacity of this Crave Plus Power Delivery portable charger is 20,000mAh. So let’s see how much of the power capacity you’re actually able to use, once the conversion of power has happened.

3.7 x 20,000  = 74,000 / 5 = 14,800

The actual amount of power capacity that you’re able to use from this power bank is going to be about 15,000mAh. This amount of power is still a great amount that can be used to charge most Power Delivery compatible smartphones such as the Essential Phone, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 2 and also the iPhone X to full power about 4 times. That’s if you’re charging only a smartphone with this power bank and nothing else, but that won’t always be the case as this power bank makes use of three ports.

When it comes to charging larger devices that are Power Delivery compatible, such as USB-C MacBooks, and other Power Delivery laptops such as the Dell XPS 13, then, of course, you can expect less full charges as they have higher battery capacities. However, you will get at least one full charge so long as you’re solely charging that device with this power bank.

Output Charging:

There are a total of three ways to charge from this power bank, two of ports are USB-A ports and the best part of them is that they both feature Quick Charge. Whereas most Power Delivery portable chargers feature just standard ports, this Crave power bank actually features two fast charging technologies and each of the two ports actually features Quick Charge.

The main reason that you’re getting this power bank is for the Power Delivery charging though, and it’s actually more powerful on this power bank than most other Power Delivery chargers. As the USB-C port on this charger has a 45W charging speed, which is 15W higher than the norm. So you’re actually able to charge more powerful Power Delivery compatible laptops, such as the Dell XPS 13 that requires that you use a 45W PD charging speed or faster.

Input Charging:

For recharging this Carve power bank you have to use the USB-C port, and you can actually recharge this power bank at Power Delivery speeds when you use a Power Delivery wall charger. The max charging speed of this Crave power bank is 30W, that said, this power bank does not come with a Power Delivery wall charger so you have to purchase that separately.

Design

Size and Weight:

The looks of this power bank highly match that of Crave’s 10,000mAh Quick Charge power bank, but it’s definitely larger and heavier because of its higher power capacity. So, the charger has a length of 7 inches, a width of 3.2 inches and it has a thickness of 0.7 inches. The weight of the power bank is 1.3 Pounds. So this power bank is quite long but at the same time, it’s one of the slimmest portable chargers on the market.

Functional Components:

When it comes to using his power bank, it’s quite standard just as a regular power bank. All the charging ports are on a single side, and on the long-length side is where the power button and four power capacity indicators are. You do have to press the power button to begin charging from this power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of Crave power banks has always felt great and that’s the same thing here, as this power bank is made of Aluminum and so it feels great to hold. The charging pots hold on strong to charging cables that you place into them, too.

Tech:

If you’re using the Power Delivery charging for a long duration then this power bank does have a tendency to become a little warm, other than that, it doesn’t become hot even if you’re charging a Power Delivery compatible device and a Quick Charge smartphone at the same time.

Reliability

This Crave Plus Pro Power Delivery portable charger has everything that you can ask for from a Power Delivery portable charger and a little bit more with it featuring a slim form factor. A part that makes it more reliable is it featuring 45W of Power Delivery charging which is higher than what most other Power Delivery portable chargers feature.

Summary:

Power:

The charger has a relatively high power capacity, but what’s most valuable about the powering side, is that this charger features two Quick Charge ports, and the Power Delivery charging is powerful with 45W of charging power.

Design:

Even with its high power capacity, the charger has a slim form factor that makes it easier for portability.

Build:

The build quality of this power bank is great because of its full Aluminum shell.

Reliability:

It’s everything that you could as for from a Power Delivery portable charger and just a little more with its use of a 45W Power Delivery charging speed and two Quick Charge ports.

Specs of the Crave Plus Pro 20,000mAh USB-C 45W Power Delivery Portable Charger:

  • Power Capacity: 20,000mAh | Output Capacity: 14,800mAh
  • Output:

USB-A Ports: Quick Charge and a Standard Charging Speed of 5V/2.4A for Non-Quick Charge Compatible Devices

USB-C Port: 45W

  • Input:

USB-C Input: 30W

  • LED Power Indicator: Four White Power Indicators
  • Size: 7 x 3.2 x 0.7 inches
  • Weight: 1.3 Pounds

Conclusion:

This Crave Plus Pro Power Delivery portable charger could use a little more power capacity, but other than that, the powerful Power Delivery charging and use of Quick Charge definitely place it higher up on the Power Delivery portable charger scale.

  1. Question: Can I charge this Crave Plus PRO Aluminum Portable Charger with a solar panel?
e.g. an Anker 21W Dual USB Solar Charger, PowerPort Solar? Or must I have at least 30W coming from my input source?
I’m thinking of using a combination such as this for bicycle touring.

    • Hey there,

You can use a Solar charger to recharge the power bank, it does not have to be a 30W input source of power. That said, the recharging sped will be slower if you use a Solar charger.
