We’re in a time where there are many portable chargers, and with numerous amounts of these kinds of charging electronics, that also means there are a bunch of different variables to what portable chargers have to offer.

Some have lower capacity than others and yet they provide a superior charging speed than higher-capacity power banks. Sometimes even when a power bank has a lot of power capacity doesn’t mean that its charging speed will always be great. The same goes for the design and the size of the chargers.

This is the Crave Travel Pro 13,000mAh Dual USB Portable charger that has it’s few quirks that make it a good power bank but let’s see what sets it apart from the rest and see if it goes beyond at all.

Power Capacity:

The Crave Travel Pro power bank features 13,000mAh of initial power capacity and the Output power capacity is going to be at a pretty normal size.

This is mainly because it doesn’t use Panasonic or LG batteries. On the other hand, the charging speeds aren’t ridiculously fast that the conversion doesn’t turn sour. With those things in mind, the Crave power bank is going to be able to offer an Output power capacity of about 10,000mAh.

For a 2 Port power bank, this Crave charger does pretty well because an Output power capacity of 10,000mAh can very well charge many smartphones 4 times or more.

Overall, that’s what this power bank is mostly for, charging smartphones since it can hold onto a power capacity for quite some time if you’re only charging smartphones, and we’re talking about a week of power.

Charging tablets are going to yield a pretty good result but only if you’re willing to use the entire power capacity of the power bank. This is true for Mini tablets as you’ll most likely use about 80% of the Crave’s power capacity to charge one, while just a little more to spare.

Full-sized tablets are going to indeed take the entire power capacity of the power bank, but keep in mind that a tablet uses a lot of power when in use, so results may vary with that.

Output Charging:   Port 1: 5V/1.0A  |   Port 2: 5V/2.1A

Output charging is at an intermediate level and this is mainly because of bad powering design.

Charging ports that have fixed charging speed is that good because you’re always going to have a charging port that has a rather slow charging speed. In this case, it’s the 5V/1.0A charging ports, and this port is the one that you should avoid using unless you’re charging 2 devices at once.

The 2.1A port can deliver the faster charging of the two ports and it’s with this one that you’re going to want to charge all your devices. This includes smartphones, tablets, and any other USB charging device.

The Max Output of the power bank is 3.1A and the usage of shared charging speed would have a great benefit because that way if you were to charge 2 devices at the same time, the charging speed would at least be 1.5 Amps for each of the devices charging.

Instead, if you’re charging 2 devices at once, the one on the 5V/1.0A port is going to be limited to just a single Amp.

Input Charging: 5V/1.6A

Recommended Wall Charger for Recharging:

Anker PowerPort 2

It’s quite an awkward recharging speed at just 1.6 Amps but it works well and if you’re using a 2 Amp wall charger or higher, then the Crave portable charger can recharge to its full power capacity in about 5-6 hours.

Design

Size and Weight:

It’s a small enough portable charger but some parts of the power bank don’t make it as portable as other power banks of similar power capacities. This is because it has a length of 4.7 inches, a width of 2.7 inches, and a thickness of 0.9 inches.

So it won’t be fitting into your pocket but the other dimensions are small enough for it to be held in a single hand. Also, the weight of the power bank charger is 13 ounces, so it’s quite heavy and if you’re not up for holding that much weight, then it should have no problems being placed into a bag and being portable.

Just portable enough.

Functional Components:

A few of the functional components are just a little scattered and how the power bank functions can be a little confusing but let’s clear some things up.

You can find the 2 USB output ports and the Micro-USB Input port on the short side of the power bank. The power button is on a long side and top of the charger is where you can find the most noticeable and awesome feature that this power bank has to offer which is the LCD digital display.

So charging DOES NOT start automatically and you must press the power button. Once charging begins, the LCD power capacity display blinks periodically and that is normal.

Also, you can just press the power button to check the power capacity that’s left on the power bank, and then the power bank will turn off when there’s nothing charging.

The LCD only shows 2 digits and that means when the power bank is at 99%, it’s then at full power capacity.

Build

Structure and Material:

The entirety of the power bank is made of plastic and that includes the black part where the LCD power capacity display is. It doesn’t make the power bank weak and we felt that the Crave portable charger is quite well built with its solid material and hold their place.

It’s not a rugged one but it’s just good enough.

Tech:

On the tech side, the power bank uses safety tech like Short-Circuit, Over-Current, and Surge protection while you’re charging your devices. The lack of any other tech improvements makes the Tech Build rather mediocre because it’s a power bank that could have faster charging and a made use of higher quality batteries.

Reliability

It’s a reliable portable charger for what it’s built for and we mean that in a nice way. It has enough power capacity to accommodate most devices to their full potential, but the weak charging speeds can make it unreliable for those that are searching for a fast charging experience along with a good power capacity.

Not the smallest portable charger but with a power capacity of 13,000mAh, it does well enough to be held in a single hand but weight can be cumbersome for those that aren’t willing to hold 13 ounces in a single hand.

Summary

Power:

The Output power capacity fairs well enough and it can charge an array of the device many times over, and mostly for smartphones. However, it can charge tablets but you’re going to end up using the entire power capacity.

Charging speeds could use some work or at least changing the charging speeds to be shared between ports would be a great start.

Design:

Not the smallest one out there but it does a good job at being physically small, and yet it has a somewhat heavyweight to it at 13 ounces.

Build:

It’s a well built portable charger that’s made of plastic and has lots of safety tech but there is still room for improvement if we’re talking about tech build qualities with the power bank being able to provide better charging speeds and lighter weight.

Reliability:

Of course, it’s reliable, it can charge your smartphones many times over, it has a 2.1A port that does well enough to charge most devices at fast speeds and it’s small enough to be held in a single hand.

With that said, there is a lack of something that each of the aspects of the Crave portable charger has. It doesn’t have the fast standard charging, the lightest weight, or the best tech.

Conclusion

This Crave portable charger is built a really strong base and we feel that there’s a strong place it could grow into. It has 2 charging ports, a small enough size, and the use of an LCD digital capacity indicator is unique and helpful.

But it can go further if the designers and techs wanted to change things up and improve the already existing good portable charger into a great one.
