A battery case is basically a portable charger except it’s in the shape of the smartphones that it’s made for.

Since battery cases are able to go on your smartphone, in a lot of ways, they can be a lot better to use than just your regular portable charger.

That’s mainly because you don’t have to hold a completely second device in your hand as you would with a power bank. Another thing is that you don’t have to deal with a charging cable either.

One of the best additions to the battery case market are ones for the latest smartphones, and in this case, I’m talking about the Galaxy S8. This is a review for the VPROOF Samsung Galaxy S8 battery case that has quite a few things that make it a great battery case to use with your smartphone, but it’s also important to know its few shortcomings as well.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this Galaxy S8 battery case is 5,000mAh and it’s quite simple to figure out just how much Output power capacity you’ll be getting once that power converts during charging. As this charger does not use Quick Charge.

Overall, you’re going to be receiving an Output power capacity of 3,700mAh that you’re actually going to be able to use and that is going to result in a full charge to your S8 and a little more.

That’s because the Galaxy S8 has a battery capacity of 3,000mAh. As a result, this VPROOF battery case can very well last you for about two days with its full power capacity if you use your smartphone quite moderately and you’re able to charge your S8 whenever you need it and not just when it’s at its lowest power.

Output Charging:

Output charging speed for this VPROOF battery case could be better, however, it’s important to realize that this is a 5,000mAh power bank that has been structured to be as compact and designed for the Galaxy S8, having a somewhat slow charging speed is understandable so it doesn’t overheat the portable charger.

That said, there’s a built-in USB-C charging tip and it has an output of 5V/1.8A. It’s definitely not the fastest charging speed that a Galaxy S8 can be charged at.

As the standard max charging speed for a Galaxy S8 is 5V/3.0A and the Quick Charge speed (Which is the fastest charging speed for the S8) can charge the Galaxy S8 at its max charging speed with an increase in Voltage.

So don’t expect your smartphone to charge at its blazing fast charging speed as it would with a Quick Charge wall charger, but the output speed for this battery case does a good enough job because it’s at least not at an Output of 5V/1.0A.

Input Charging:

The recharging of this battery is done just like with most battery case and that would be through an input port with the battery case itself.

This VPROOF battery is recharged through its USB-C input and it has a recharged speed of 5V/1.8A, which is the same as the Output speed. So you can recharge this battery case at its full power with a 2 Amp wall charger or higher. Also, you can charge the battery case while the battery case charges your S8.

The only downside to this battery case when it comes to using its input port is that you cannot use data transfer while the case is on and so you have to remove it for transferring files.

Design

Size and Weight:

The main problem with battery cases is that they tend to add quite a bit of thickness to your smartphone.

That is basically the case here as the battery case adds a thickness of 0.6 inches and it also adds a weight of 4 ounces.

The weight isn’t really anything substantial, that said, the thickness that’s added can be problematic for users that are searching for a very slim battery case. Then again, most battery cases are not very thin, unless you want to have a lower power capacity.

Functional Components:

This battery case is made for the Galaxy S8 and it shows with cuts outs that have precise spaces for all the functional parts that include the:

• Headphone Jack
• Microphone
• The camera
• It, of course, has the button bezels too

At the back of the battery case is where the power button is and it also acts as the power capacity indicator too. That’s because it has 4 main colors that signify the different levels of power capacity.

Teal – 75%-100%

Green – 75%-50%

Blue – 50%-25%

Red – 25%-1%

The place of the power button is quite good as its depressed into the battery case quite far so you don’t accidentally press it once you have it in your hands or when you have it in your pocket.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of the battery case is okay. The reason that we say that it’s “okay” is because the battery case doesn’t offer any protection to the screen. That’s because there’s no bezel once you have the battery case on your Galaxy S8. However, the battery case does have protection if it falls on its side or its edge.

Tech:

On the tech side, the portable charger has good build too and that’s because it only heats up just a little bit during charging.

Reliability

The level of reliability with this VPROOF battery case is really good if you can just over its two main setbacks. Which would be that it adds quite a bit of thickness to your S8 and it doesn’t offer screen protection either.

Other than that, the reliability of this battery case is quite good as it adds a full charge and some more power to your S8 smartphone.

This VPROOF 5,000mAh Galaxy S8 battery case is one of the best battery cases for the S8 on the market. Sure it does have its flaws with not having the full protection of your S8, but when it comes to power this battery case definitely does a great job.
