There are quite a few security cameras on the market, and you likely already know of the larger brands. As impressive as the larger brands are, taking a look at the smaller brands is also worthwhile, and that’s because you’re able to get a quality product at a lower price. That is the case with HeimVision products.

HeimVision is a brand that specializes in outdoor and indoor security cameras, as well as a few other home appliances. One of their newest cameras, the Assure B1 wireless 2k camera, is the latest product that delivers higher resolution video recording, so you have a clearer view of what’s going on. Most security cameras on the market, even ones from top brands such as Ring, mainly feature a 1080p resolution, and by today’s standards, the video quality is poor.

In this review, we’re looking at what this HeimVision Assure B1 2k camera has to offer.

What’s in the Box

The first good news about the Assure B1 is that it comes with everything in the box. In the box, you’ll find the Camera itself, the base station, two Micro-USB cables, an ethernet cable, and screws, as well as a mount to place the camera on.

The Base station is tiny and about 4 inches long. To the sides is where you’ll find the Micro-USB input port for powering the base station, an ethernet port for a wired connection, and an SD card slot. There is also a power button that is for connecting the base station to the camera itself.

At the top of the base station is where there are four white circles, which means that you connect four cameras at the same time to the same base station. There is also a Wi-Fi logo and a power-on logo to show that the base station is being powered.

The HeimVision Assure B1 2k camera also has a simple design, with the front having the lens and an LED light that can be turned on via the app, and we’ll get into the details about the app a little later. To the side of the camera is a speaker, and at the bottom of the camera is a Micro-USB input port that can be used to power the camera, and a mounting hole that is used to screw the camera onto the mount. At the back of the camera is the battery cover, and yes, this Assure B1 camera can use four AA batteries to be powered.

HeimVision does recommend that you use Rechargeable AA batteries, this way, you can connect a Micro-USB cable to the input port on the camera and recharge the batteries once they run out of power. So you’re not always changing out new batteries. The camera as a whole looks great, and the mount that it comes with is small enough that you can place it nearly anywhere.

You can also have the camera simply sitting by itself if you’re using it indoors.

At the top of the Assure B1 camera is where you’ll find a power button for connecting the camera to the HeimSmart app.

Connectivity Process

The camera’s connectivity process is quite straight forward, and the HeimVision has an instruction paper that comes in the box. The first thing you need to do is power the base station via its Micro-USB input port and connect an ethernet cable via the ethernet port. Once powered, the lights at the top will turn on.

Once the Base station is powered and has an internet connection, download the HeimSmart app from the App store. There is an Apple version of the app and an Android version of the app. In our case, we used the Android version of the HeimSmart app because we used a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with the Assure B1 camera.

Once you download the app and launch it, you have to create an account and select what device you want to connect to. In this case, you have to choose that you want to connect to a Base station, then you 3x tap on the Assure B1 power button, and then you 3x tap on the Base station power button, and once you hear “Pairing Successful” from the camera, you can press “Next” on the app. The app is then connected to the Assure B1 camera, allowing you to have full control and a view of what the camera is recording.

Using the HeimSmart App / Video Quality

Once you have the Assure B1 camera placed where you want it and have it connected to the app, most of your camera usage will be done through the HeimSmart app. It’s where you can view the devices you have connected to your Base Station, and in this case, we only have one device connected: the Assure B1 camera. You can view Events; you can subscribe to Cloud Storage subscriptions that HeimVision has to offer, and you can edit your account details.

Most of your time will be spent in the “Devices” tab, as this is where you can view the recording of the camera, and once you tap on the camera you want to view, you’re immediately taken to a Live footage feed of the camera. On the Live footage feed, you quickly have access to change the feed from either HD (1080p) to FHD (2K) resolution, and you can change your viewing from portrait to landscape.

The video feed quality is drastically better at 2k than it is at 1080p, and if you bought this camera for 2k resolution, we recommend that you use it. With the camera using FHD, you can see smaller details and make out faces better, which gives you an all-around better security experience just in case something goes wrong.

On the HeimSmart app, you have a few direct controls easily accessible, such as instant recording, taking a photo, and a mic button that you can hold down to talk through the camera.

You can also name your camera depending on where you’re placing it. You can even turn on motion detection via the app and have notifications; this way, if the camera picks up movement, you get a notification.

Overall, what you’re getting from this HeimVision Assure B1 2k camera is a simple design that provides excellent quality video recording. You don’t have to deal with a large and complicated base station that is difficult to set-up. The use of the HeimSmart app is very intuitive and makes use of the Assure B1 camera very easily.
