Portable chargers are capable of a lot, in comparison to what they were capable of a few years back. The reason for that is because there are now many ways that you can use a power bank rather than just using them to charge your smartphone or tablet. Of course, that’s the base purpose of a power bank, but that’s not the only thing they can do. Now they can charge smartphones, laptops, they can power appliances and they can also jump-start cars.

That’s basically what this iClever 20,000mAh jump-starter portable charger is capable of. So it’s capable of jump-starting cars and one very surprising plus of this charger is that it features Power Delivery charging. So let’s see if this is really one of the best all-in-one type of power bank.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this iClever portable charger isn’t anything too special, but it is a high capacity power bank with a 20,000mAh power capacity. However, this is the initial power capacity of the charger, so let’s see how much of it you’re actually able to use once the conversion has happened.

3.7 x 20,000 = 74,000 / 5 = 14,800

Overall, you’re really able to use about 15,000mAh of the 20,000mAh initial power capacity that this charger actually has. So there’s still a lot of power capacity to be used to charge smartphones many times over, and we’re talking about 4-5 times. While charging larger devices, such as tablets and laptops will result in lower full charges because they have high battery capacities. Although, the fact that you’re able to charge laptops with this power bank is still quite amazing and we’ll get to that later.

That said, you are able to charge most tablets and laptops to their full power about 2-3 times if you’re solely using this power bank to charge those devices and charging nothing else at the same time.

Then when it comes to jump-starting a car with this iClever portable charger, you can do so about 40 times if you’re starting from the full 20,000mAh that this power bank has.

Output Charging:

There are a total of four ways to utilize this iClever portable charger. So let’s go through each of them.

Two USB-A Ports:

Basically one of the simplest ways that you can use this power bank is by using the two USB-A ports. Each of the ports is capable of Quick Charge, so if you have a Quick Charge compatible smartphone, you’re able to charge it at its max charging speed. Quick Charge devices are Android smartphones such as the Galaxy S8, S9, LG V30 and many other types of Android smartphones. Of course, not all Android smartphone use Quick Charge, so it’s best to check if your Android smartphone is Quick Charge compatible.

Even though both of the ports are Quick Charge enabled, you can’t charge two Quick Charge smartphones at their max charging speed. Instead, one port would be dedicated to Quick Charge while charging another device with the other USB-A port will result in a 5V/2.4A charging speed. If you’re charging just two standard devices with the USB-A ports then that will result in a 5V/2.4A charging speed for each of the USB-A ports.

USB-C Power Delivery Port:

This is the one aspect of this power bank that we found to be quite awesome, and that would be the fact that this power bank actually features Power Delivery. Power Delivery is a fast charging technology that is being used with the new standard of connectivity and charging that is USB-C.

USB-C is now being used with many new Android smartphones, tablets and laptops. So with the use of USB-C Power Delivery, and with this iClever power bank featuring 30W of Power Delivery charging, you’re able to charge quite a lot of devices with it. Some smartphones are compatible with Power Delivery such as the Google Pixel 2, Galaxy S8/S9, and the iPhone X and iPhone 8, just to name a few. Also, yes, you can charge an iPhone X and iPhone 8 with a USB-C port by using a USB-C to Lightning charging cable.

With 30W of charging, it means that you can charge quite a few USB-C chargeable laptops too. Such as Apple’s USB-C compatible MacBook. Charging such laptops will result in much faster speeds than just a regular 15W USB-C port that many power banks tend to have. With all that said, it’s important to know that Power Delivery does come with more charging power and that the USB-C Power Delivery port on this iClever power bank won’t charge all USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptops that require 45W or 60W of charging power such as the Dell XPS 15 or the Dell XPS 13.

DC Output Port:

The DC port on this power bank can be used as an output with the use of a car adapter that comes with the power bank. The DC port is capable of a 12V/10A power output so it’s capable of powering small appliances such as coolers, fans and any other appliances that use a car adapter to be powered from. Or you can use the DC cable from the appliance that you’re using directly with the DC port of the iClever power bank.

Car Jumper Adapter:

The car jump starting capabilities of this power bank are really good. As the jump-start portion of this power bank is capable of jump-starting 8L Gas engines and 6.5L Diesel engines. Also, the jump-starting isn’t just for cars, but it also used for things such as ATVs, motorcycles, boats and any other vehicles that use engines within its specifications of jump-starting.

The starting current of the power bank for jump-starting engines is 400A for 3 seconds and 800A for 0.5 seconds.

Input Charging:

Recharging this power bank is done through the USB-C port, as the port can also be used as an input port to recharge this power bank. Since you can recharge through the USB-C port, this also means that you can recharge this iClever portable charger at Power Delivery speeds, and one more reason to get this power bank is that it comes with a 30W Power Delivery wall charger.

So you can basically recharge this power bank at its max charging speed right out of the box, and the power bank even comes with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable to use with it too. Just something to know is that the wall charger that comes with eh power bank just features a single port, not something negative though, it’s just something that we thought we would point out.

Design

Size and Weight:

With a high power capacity and many ways to use this power bank, this iClever portable charger isn’t a small charger at all. So it’s definitely not the type of power bank that you’re able to hold in your hand and walk around with for a long duration of time. It has a length of 8.9 inches, a width of 3.6 inches, and a thickness of 1.2 inches. The weight of the power bank is 1.3 Pounds.

It’s more of a power bank that you would set down and charge your devices with, or of course, jump-start your car with.

Functional Components:

Using this highly capable iClever portable charger is rather easy, despite the many things that it’s capable of.

On one side there’s the two USB-A ports and the flashlight. Then to the right of that, on the long length side, is where you’ll find the USB-C port and DC port. While on the opposite side is where you’ll find the car adapter plug. On top of the power bank is where the power button is and four Blue LED power capacity indicators are located.

To use any of the charging ports, such as the USB-A ports, USB-C port, or the DC port, you have to press the power button to power them on.

When it comes to using the car jump starting part of this power bank, you have to connect the jumper clamps adapter to the charger, and then connect the Red clamp to Positive and the Black clamp to Negative on your car battery. Once that’s done, wait until the light on the clamp adapter turns Green which basically means that you’re ready to jump-start your car.

After about four cranks your car hasn’t started, just give it a break for about five minutes to let the power bank cool-down.

Also, for using the flashlight, you have to keep the power button held down for about 3 seconds. There are three main options that you can have the flashlight on with, and that would be: constantly on, strobe and SOS. To cycle between the different stages, you have to double press the power button.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power bank is very good when it comes to the structure and we might have called it a rugged power bank, but that’s not really the intent of the build. Yes, this charger is made better than just your regular power bank, but at the same time, it’s not shockproof from drops and neither is it waterproof.

It’s more of a solidly built power bank.

Tech:

On the tech side, this power bank does get a great job at managing the many capabilities that it does have, but at the same time, if you’re going over its limits, then the charger will shut-down automatically in order to prevent overheating.

Speaking of overheating, we absolutely recommend taking a break between cranking your car if the first four cranks don’t work. A cool-down break for about 3-5 minutes is vital as the batteries of the power bank are under a lot of pressure and placing them underneath a lot of heat can result in them expanding and ultimately damaging the power bank.

Reliability

On the reliability scale, this power bank basically has it all, if you can make use of the features that it has. Not everyone is going to find a use for the USB-C Power Delivery port or the wall charger that comes with this power bank. Also, not everyone is going to find the Quick Charge tech with the USB-A ports to be useful either.

Some might get this power bank only for the jump-starting capabilities and that’s it. That’s fine, however, you’re not fully taking advantage of what this power bank is capable of and if all you want is a portable car jump-starter then there are more simple and lower-priced options on the market.

Summary:

Power:

The power from this iClever portable charger isn’t only the power capacity, more so, it’s the charging abilities that it has with its use of Power Delivery, and Quick Charge with its USB-A ports. Also, the jump-starting feature is definitely one of the main reasons to purchase it too.

Design:

The charger is rather large and heavy, but it has to be with all that it features. When it comes to using this power bank, it’s rather easy to use with the press of the power button.

Build:

The build quality of this charger is very good, and when it comes to jump-starting your car with it, it’s best to give the power bank a few breaks to let the batteries cool-down.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable power bank with its jump-start capabilities and Power Delivery changing, which is something that not many portable car jumpers are capable of.
