Surge protectors are very useful electronics because they have a bunch of AC outlets that allow us to power many appliances on just a single device.

In addition to being able to power our devices, Surge Protectors that are being sold by charging electronic companies are now featuring USB ports directly on the power Surge Protectors.

This is a great innovative design for Surge Protectors because now there’s no longer a need to use USB wall chargers with them as that would have taken up an AC Outlet.

This iClever Surge Protector has AC Outlets along with 6 USB charging ports, however, let’s see if it goes into the quality spectrum and not just the quantity part.

Power

Output Charging:

AC Outlet Power:

There are 6 AC Outlets and the Max Output of the Surge Protector is 1875Watts. That’s a lot of power that’s able to supply enough power to all of your appliances. Well, at least it’s enough to power as long as you don’t go over.

With that said, it’s still enough power for appliances that people generally use with Surge Protectors.

With that said, if you do go over the power capabilities, the Surge Protector can automatically shut itself off.

USB Port Power:

The main event of this Surge Protector is the 6 USB charging ports as that’s like having a 6 port USB wall charger directly built into it.

Each of the charging ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and that’s a max standard charging speed that’s able to charge most devices at their max charging rate. Most smartphones can charge at max speed using that Amperage and larger devices like iPads are going to do great with it because they have a max charging speed of 5V/2.4A.

With that said, none of the USB ports feature Quick Charge so smartphones that are compatible with Quick Charge tech, like the Galaxy S7, will not be able to charge at their max charging speeds.

Altogether the USB port side of the Surge Protector has a Max Output of 6 Amps. It’s not all that bad.

You can use 3 USB ports at a charging speed of 2 Amps per port, with the Max Output being reached.

However, if you’re using all 6 of the USB charging ports with the Max Output being reached then each port will only be able to Output a charging speed of 5V/1.0A. A 1 Amp charging speed is quite slow and most devices are going to charge slowly as a result.

So even though the Surge Protector does have 6 charging ports to use, it’s best to stick to using 3-4 at a time, otherwise, you’ll be giving up charging speed.

Design

Size and Weight:

It’s the size that you’d expect from a Surge Protector that has 6 AC Outlets and 6 USB ports.

It has a length of 9.1 inches, a width of 3.2 inches, and a thickness of 1.3. The weight of the iClever Surge Protector is 1.2 pounds. So it’s not even too heavy and can be taken with you for traveling purposes.

Functional Components:

On the functional side, things are good but they could better. All of the functional parts of the Surge Protector are on a single side.

There’s one line of USB ports that are placed horizontally and thankfully, each of the USB ports has enough spacing between them and it’s easy to place new devices to charge and things won’t get tangled.

With that said, there’s a different case with the AC Outlets as they’re very close together. This is a problem because if you were to use a Power Brick with the 3-prong AC Outlets then the surrounding ones would be covered. And the likelihood of you using a Power Brick is quite high.

There is a power switch off to the side corner and it’s very convenient to use as you’re able to turn the Surge Protector ON and OFF rather than unplugging it. There’s a green light that comes on under the power switch once the Surge Protector is turned on to indicate that it’s ready to use.

On the back, there are mounting holes which are where you can place the Power Strip onto a wall.

Build

Structure and Material:

The Surge Protector is made of plastic and the iClever has claimed that it’s covered in Fireproof material as well.

Tech:

Of course, an unsafe Surge Protector simply wouldn’t make any sense and that’s not the case here as you’re able to plug any amount of devices in it until the Surge Protector turns itself off.

This is because once you go over the powering the capabilities that it’s able to handle automatically turn off.

Reliability

For the most part, this iClever Power Strip is quite capable of powering and charging. The amount of charging ports is very welcome and the charging speed for each of them is very good, however, the more devices you charge, the slower the charging speed will be, because of the Max Output of power.

So it’s just the small things that can make the Power Strip unreliable at times, such as if you’re using a power brick AC adapter with the AC Outlets because the AC Outlets are too close to each other and Power brick can end up covering surrounding AC Outlets.

With that said, the main parts of the Surge Protector stand true and are highly useful.

Summary:

Power:

There’s enough power to use with your appliances and also to charge your devices at pretty good speeds. However, you should limit the number of devices that you charge, so all of your devices can charge at good enough speeds.

Design:

On the design side, the PowerStrip isn’t too large or heavy and it’s pretty easy to use. The only problem is that the AC Outlets are too close to each other.

Build:

The build is quite good, and the Power Strip uses fire-resistant material and safety tech to make sure that it doesn’t damage itself.

Reliability:

For the most part, the PowerStrip is very reliable, but there are small parts that can cause problems and make the Power Strip unreliable.

  • Input:
  • Quick Charge: No
  • LED Power Indicator: Yes
  • Size: 9.1 x 3.2 x 1.3 inches
