Portable jump starters have been in the market for a while and have featured all sorts of capabilities. Most of the power banks that doubled as jump starters would usually only use a single USB-A port that would have a 5W or 10W charging speed, and that’s it. However, times have changed now, and this Imazing 18,000mAh portable jump starter is proof of that.

When it comes to jumping starting cars and their charging power, the power output is definitely more on par with what you can expect from modern power banks. Let’s take a closer look to see why that is.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity with this Imazing portable charger is nothing too impressive as it has an 18,000mAh power capacity. This power is to be expected from power banks that can jump-start vehicles; with this power capacity, though, you’re able to jump-start about 30 times with a full charge available with the power bank.

When it comes to using the power capacity via charging, you may get less mileage than you think because most phones and tablets nowadays have larger batteries. If you’re charging some of the latest smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which has a 5,000mAh battery size, then you’re going to fair about two full charges with this power bank with some leftover power. Charging laptops is basically the same result, but you may only get a single charge for most tablets as they have batteries that can be 10,000mAh in size.

Overall, the power capacity with this Imazing power bank is good enough and fits its charging and jump-starting features; a higher power capacity would ultimately make the power bank larger and heavier, and we think that an 18,000mAh capacity hits the sweet spot for portability.

Output Charging:

On the charging side, you have quite a few options for using this power bank. That’s because this Imazing power bank has a USB-C port, two USB-A ports, and one DC port. One of the USB-A ports features Quick Charge to fast charge Android smartphones, and the other USB-A port has a 5V/2.1A standard charging speed.

The USB-C port does not feature Power Delivery on this power bank, and that does come as a slight disappointment because when a power bank has a USB-C port at this point, you’d expect it to have at least an 18W charging speed. In this case, the USB-C port has a 15W charging speed.

The DC port is the unexpected part of this power bank, as most regular power banks, even portable jump-starter ones, don’t even use DC ports. That said, a DC to 12Volt cable is included in the box that allows you to use the DC port with certain appliances more easily. We were able to use a car tire pump with the DC port thanks to the cable adapter.

The jump-starting power of this Imazing power bank is great as it has a 1600A – 2000A Peak current and an 800A starting current. This covers a wide range of vehicles that you’re able to jump-start, with this model being able to jump-start 10.0L Gas cars and 8.0L Diesel cars.

Input Charging:

Recharging this power bank is done via the USB-C port, and we recommend using, at least, a 15W USB-C wall charger to recharge it at its max charging speed. Included in the box is a USB-C to USB-A cable that you can use to recharge the power bank, but you may also use a USB-C to USB-C cable to do so.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this power bank is a bit large, and it does have weight to it, but it’s nothing unmanageable, and you can easily take this charger anywhere you want. We think it’s best to keep the power bank placed in the hard case that comes included in the box and keep the power bank in your car.

The charger has 7.5 inches, a width of 3.4 inches, and a thickness of 1.4 inches. The power bank weighs 2 pounds. So it’s not the most comfortable thing to place this charger into your pocket, but you can easily hold it or store it in your car in case you need to use it to charge your devices or jump-start your car.

Functional Components:

When using the power bank, charging automatically starts when you plug a device into the power bank. The location for the ports is in different places, with the two USB-A ports being right next to each other and the USB-C and DC ports being next to each other on another side.

An LED flashlight can be turned on via the power button on top of the power button, and you have to hold the power button down for about 3 seconds to turn it on and off. You can press the power button to change its setting from constant on to SOS.

Also at the top of the power bank is a display that shows the remaining power capacity, what port you’re using, and if you’re using an output or input port.

The jump-starting ports can also be found next to the USB-A ports and are covered by a flap. Included in the box is a jump-starting cable adapter that you connect to the ports under the flap and then connect the clamps to the positive and negative points of your car battery. Once the clamps are connected, you can crank your car to start it.

It’s easy to use, and the best part is the jump-starting feature of this power bank gives you peace of mind in those unexpected times that your car has a dead battery.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power bank is great, and I didn’t find any problems with it. The charger feels solid to use, and you can use the included hard carrying case to store it in your car without having to worry about the power bank getting damaged. Of course, the charger is not waterproof, so keep it away from liquids.

Tech:

One part that you need to be careful of with this power bank is that you shouldn’t crank your car constantly when trying to jump-start it. Only crank once, then let the power bank cool down for a few minutes. Cranking constantly can cause the power bank to overheat and then cause the batteries to expand. This ultimately breaks the power bank.

Reliability

If you’re searching for a power bank to jump-start your car and that can also fast charge your smartphone while you’re on the road, this Imazing power bank is a great choice. That said, the USB-C port does not feature Power Delivery, so don’t expect it to charge a USB-C laptop.
