Portable jump starters have always been reliable devices because you can always rely on them for unexpected times when your car won’t start and your battery needs a jump. With so many jump-starters on the market, it can be challenging to know which one will work because the last thing you need is the jump-starter not working because it’s too weak to jump-start your car.

In this review, we’re looking at the Imazing 4000A peak portable jump starter. A 4000A peak current is one of the highest that you can get, and this Imazing unit has a host of other features, comes with a few accessories, and has a relatively low price compared to the competition.

Power

Power Capacity:

This Imazing jump-starter has a 26,800mAh power capacity, and that’s enough for 60 jump-starts which is more than enough if all you’re using this power bank is for jump-starting cars. This means that as long as you recharge it fully and only rely on it for jump-starting, you won’t have to recharge it for a very long time.

Regarding charging devices via the charging ports, the 26,800mAh capacity is still a lot, but charging most phones and tablets will deplete the power much faster than jump-starting a car. Even so, you can charge a phone about three times without worrying if you have enough power to jump-start a car. Some units have much lower capacities as they don’t emphasize charging and their only purpose is being a jump-starter; however, this Imazing power bank has the best of both worlds with its high capacity, powerful jump current, and charging features.

Jump-Starting

As we mentioned, the 4000A peak current makes this an amazing portable jump-starter. It’s reliable because a 4000A current is very high and covers a wide range of vehicles that can be jump-started due to a weak battery. It’s so powerful that you can jump-start all types of gas vehicles with a 12V battery and 10L diesel vehicles. With such a high peak current, it also means that if you have a near-dead battery, you have a better chance of jump-starting your car.

There are plenty of 1000A peak current jump-starters, such as the NOCO Boost Plus GB40 that has a 1000A peak current, and yet, it has a close price to the Imazing jump-starter. A 1000A peak current is pretty weak and has a much lower chance of jumping a vehicle than a 4000A current.

If you want to ensure that you won’t be stranded with a dead battery and have the best possible chance of jump-starting your car, the higher peak current is better. That’s why 4000A current from this Imazing unit may seem excessive, but it can very well be necessary if you want peace of mind.

Output Charging:

Portable jump-starter power banks almost always have one charging port; this Imazing jump-starter goes a few steps further with four output ports. The power bank has two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, and one DC port. One of the USB-A ports features Quick Charge to fast charge compatible Android phones, and the other USB-A port has a 12W output.

The USB-C port only has a 15W output, so it doesn’t feature Power Delivery, but we think that’s a good thing as making it a Power Delivery USB-C port would make the price even higher. The DC port has a 12.5V-17V/12A output.

We could fast charge a Galaxy Note 9 from the USB-A Quick Charge port, standard charge an LG G7 from the standard USB-A port, and standard charge a Galaxy S20 from the USB-C port.

The DC port is more valuable than you may think because included in the box is a DC car port connector that you connect to the DC output port and lets you connect a broader range of devices.

We were able to power a VIAIR tire inflator using the DC port. This is incredible because you can travel with a tire inflator, and this Imazing jump starter can power your tire inflator; this way, you don’t have to use power from your car which can risk causing a dead battery. The VIAIR tire inflator takes about 55W to run, so this product can power smaller appliances on top of jumping batteries.

 

Another way to use this DC port is to recharge a Fanttik EVO 300 power station using the car charger that came with the power station and connecting it to the DC car port adapter. The Imazing power bank could recharge the power station at about 80W. Its reliability doubles if you can find a purpose for the DC port on this power bank.

Input Charging:

The weakest part of this jump-starter is recharging because the unit recharges via the USB-C port and can only be recharged at 15W. It would have been a little better to at least make the USB-C port have an 18W output/input for just a tad bit faster charging. So if you’re planning to recharge it, know it can take some time.

However, recharging is likely kept slow at 15W to decrease heat in the battery as lots of heat is generated in the batteries when jump-starting your car.

Design

Size and Weight:

This 4000A jump-starter has a pretty large size with a length of 8.8 inches, a width of 3.8 inches, and a thickness of 1.8 inches. So it’s large in that you likely won’t want to use this as a regular power bank to primarily charge your phone or tablet, and you probably won’t be able to fit it in your pocket, or it’ll be very uncomfortable if you do.

It’s best to keep this jump-starter in your car for emergencies.

Functional Components:

Included in the box with the Imazing jump-starting power bank are a jump-starting cable adapter, a USB-C to USB-A charging cable, a DC car port adapter, and the manual.

You must connect the included jump-starter cable adapter to the power bank to jump-start your car. Once inserted, a blue light will light up on the adapter to show it’s ready to use. Connect the positive clamp to the positive side of your battery and the negative clamp to the negative side of your battery. Once the clamps are connected, the blue and green light should be lit on the adapter, and you’re ready to start your car.

Once the car is started, the blue light will only be on, and you can remove the clamps from the battery.

The blue and red light on the adapter can mean a few things, such as the power capacity being too low or you have the clamps on the wrong points on the battery.

A flashlight on the power bank can be turned on by holding down the power button, and you can cycle through white constant-on mode, red flashing mode, and red SOS mode. White LED power capacity lights are at the top next to the power button.

Build

Structure and Material:

This portable jump-starter has a strong build as it doesn’t feel flimsy, can be stored in your vehicle, and can withstand bumps or hits as you drive. The entire housing is made of plastic, but making it out of Aluminum would have increased the price considerably and made it even heavier.

Tech:

We highly recommend taking a break in between cranks when jump-starting your car. This means that if your vehicle doesn’t start when trying to jump-start with this jump-starter, then let the unit cool down for about 30 seconds. When you crank your car, the batteries in the jump-starter heat up, and constant cranking can cause them to heat up too much and expand.

This is a 4000A peak current jump-starter, making it much less likely that you’ll need to crank multiple times.

Reliability

Suppose you’re searching for a portable jump-starter in case of an emergency. In that case, this Imazing one is as reliable as it gets because its 4000A peak current covers the broadest range of vehicles it can jump-start. Add on charging ports and the DC port that can power small appliances; you can do much with it. Also, the price is more reliable for your bank account as other brands such as NOCO seem to have a 1000A jump-starter priced nearly the same as this 4000A jump-starter.

Summary:

Power:

The 4000A peak current is the main reason to get this jump-starter because it will likely be easy to jump-start your car with a single crank and can jump-start more depleted batteries than weaker jump-starters. The charging ports are alright, with the DC port being more reliable if you can find usage for it. The USB-C recharging is a little letdown with only a 15W recharge rate.

Design:

Using this Imazing jump-starer is simple enough, with just a few light indicators on the jumper cable adapter to tell you what’s happening. It is mainly a plug-in and start.

Build:

Structurally, the unit is solid, but as we said, if you require a few cranks to jump-start, then give it a chance to cool down for about 30 seconds in between cranks.

Reliability:

The jump-starter comes with all the necessary accessories, and the 4000A peak current covers one of the widest ranges of vehicles you can jump-start.
