Since it’s summer, there’s a high chance that you’re barbequing often. However, whether you’re using a gasoline bbq or a using one that requires charcoal, there’s one thing that we can all agree on, and that would be that it can be difficult to know if you’re cooking up to your standards. Especially, when it comes to cooking a steak out on the bbq or even chicken. Undercooked or overcooked ends up with some bad results, and you begin to question whether doing a barbeque was even worth it.

In this review, we’re taking a look at this Inkbird IBT-4XS Bluetooth BBQ thermometer. It allows you to get the internal temperature of the food that you’re cooking. This can help you cook your food just the way that you want it.

What’s in the Box / How to Use it

Alright, starting, this BBQ thermometer comes with everything that you will need to use it.

Inside the box you will find:

  • Inkbird IBT-4XS Bluetooth BBQ Thermometer Transmitter
  • Four stainless steel metal thermometer probes that are 4.9Ft long
  • A Micro-USB charging cable for recharging the transmitter
  • Two Grate Clips
  • The Set-Up manual
  • Warranty Card

Alright, so you can use this Bluetooth thermometer alone, however, we highly recommend following the manual getting the BBQ GO app. The app allows you to connect to your phone to the transmitter, and so you’re able to get the internal temperature directly on your phone, so you don’t have to directly look at the transmitter for what’s happening. This is especially handy because you’re able to view all the temperatures of each probe at the same time without having to cycle through each one individually on the transmitter itself.

Another thing is that if you’re cooking something that takes a while to cook, and can go back inside your house, or wherever, set a certain temperature via the app and have the timer go off once it reaches set temperature. This way you don’t have to stay in front of your BBQ the entire time.

The main thing to take away is that this Inkbird BBQ thermometer can give ease of mind and let you relax while doing a barbeque.

Using the Thermometer and the App

You can get the BBQ Go Apple from either the Google Play Store for Android users or the App Store for Apple iPhone users. To Connect the App, you have to turn on Bluetooth and then there is an instruction on the app that says to press a button on the transmitter, and then you’re connected to the transmitter.

The transmitter itself is quite a small device that you’re able to hold with a single hand, and it has magnetics at the back that allows you to place it on a metal surface where you can easily view it.

Also at the back of the transmitter is where you’ll find the ON / OFF switch. On the bottom is also where you’ll find the four ports to place the probes in and each of the ports is numbered 1-4 so you know which is which. At the front is where the screen is.

Also, at the top is where you’ll find a Micro-USB input port that is used to recharge the transmitter.

The screen can tell you what probe port is being shown, the temperature of said probe, and teh battery status of the transmitter. It’s an easy device to use, we do like how small and lightweight it, so it’s not a hassle to use that gets in the way of actually cooking.

The app is basically like using the transmitter but with more features. The BBQ GO app allows you to view all the probe temperatures at the same time, and the temperature sync between the transmitter and the app is instant. At least that was the case for us.

Also, so that you know, we used this Inkbird IBT-4XS BBQ thermometer when we cooked two Ribeye Steaks on a charcoal grill.

How we cooked the steaks was that we bought the temperature of the grill to 250° Fahrenheit first and then we added two Ribeye steaks, however, before we did that, we placed a single probe into each of the two steaks and then we closed the lid.

The goal with cooking the steaks with the grill is to have the internal temperature of the steaks reach 120° Fahrenheit far, take them out, and then sear them on a stove. The goal was to cook a rare steak, and that’s exactly what we got.

The transmitter and the app worked great with cooking the ribeye steak in the grill. Not only was the app able to deliver the current internal temperature of the steak, but we were also able to set the goal temperature to be 120° Fahrenheit and then have the app set off an alarm once it reached the set temperature. There are presets in the app for cooking specific things, but you are also able to set your custom temperature if you want.

Build Quality

The build quality of the transmitter is pretty good, and there aren’t any cheap feeling parts to it and we think that it can last for a while as long as you take care of it. Such as not dropping it on the floor or exposing it to water, as the transmitter is not water-resistant and neither is it shockproof.

Also, the probes are not fully waterproof. They are waterproof where they are completely metal which is the portion where you’d place into the meat that you’re checking the temperature of, however, the wire part of the probes is not waterproof. Also, just in case you’re worried about damaging the probes because of the heat, they can withstand a temperature of 572° Fahrenheit.
