Wireless chargers aren’t anything new and they’re not exactly the most helpful charging electronic that you could be using. That said, it’s the ease of just placing your Qi compatible smartphone on a pad and having it charge is the main reason that wireless charging is so popular. This iOttie wireless charger that we’re reviewing here is definitely one of the best wireless chargers on the market. The reason for that is because it features a few things that not many other wireless chargers have.

So let’s take a look if the price of this wireless charger is indeed worth it, or if you should go for something more simple.

Power

Output Charging:

When it comes to wireless charging speeds, wireless charging is simply not the fastest method for charging your smartphone. Wired charging is actually faster no matter what type of Qi-Compatible smartphone you’re charging. However, for a few smartphones on the market that are able to charge wirelessly, they’re able to charge faster than just regular wireless charging.

The two types of smartphones are Qi-Compatible Samsung smartphones and the iPhone X and iPhone 8. The Samsung phones are able to charge at a 10W charging speed (5V/2.0A) when they’re used with fast wireless chargers. The iPhone X and iPhone 8 are also able to have fast wireless charging of 7.5W (5V/1.5A), that said, fast wireless charging for the Qi-Compatible iPhones with wireless chargers is far and in-between.

That’s why it’s actually a good idea to get this iOttie wireless Plus fast charger that features fast wireless charging for Samsung smartphones and also for the iPhone X and iPhone 8. All other Qi-Compatible smartphones will receive a standard charging speed of 5W (5V/1.0A).

USB-A Port

Something not many wireless chargers have is the use of a USB-A port, but this iOttie wireless charger actually does have a single charging port. You can use the USB port to charge a second device at the same time you’re wirelessly charging another. That said, the charging speed for the port changes depending on whether or not you’re wirelessly charging a smartphone at the same time.

If you are wirelessly charging a smartphone then the USB port will output 5W (5V/1.0A). If you’re not wirelessly charging, then the USB port is able to output 12W (5V/2.4A), which is actually quite a lot faster.

Wireless charging speeds when it comes to using the USB port is not affected.

Input Charging:

This iOttie wireless charger actually uses a USB-C input port, this something that not many wireless chargers make use of and we’re really glad to see that this charger is embracing the new standard for connectivity and power. Along with the use of a USB-C input port, this wireless charger actually comes with a Quick Charge wall charger and USB-A to USB-C charging cable so you can provide max power to it right out of the box.

Design

Size and Weight:

This wireless charger is larger than most other wireless charging pads that you’ll find on the market. As this charge has a length of 4 inches, a width of 3 inches and the thickness of the charger is 1.3 inches. The weight of the charger is 11 Ounces. So even with its larger size, this charger isn’t too big and still perfect for placing on a desk. Another reason that its larger is because it uses a USB port along with wireless charging so there are heat dissipation parts that are used with this charger.

Functional Components:

Even with its larger size, this charger still uses a single charging coil. That might sound bad, but it’s actually not because there’s a larger coil used with this charger. Therefore you have more areas of where you can move your charger.

To the sides of the charger is where you’ll find the USB-C input port and there’s also the USB-A port right next to it. On the opposite side is where there’s a very small White LED light that turns on when your Qi-Compatible smartphone is charging.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this iOttie wireless charger is very good and the fabric of the charger gives it a great look. No loose parts and the entire charger is structurally sound.

Tech:

On the tech side, this charger does have heat ventilation at the back of the charger, so even if you’re charging another device with the USB-A port and the wireless charger at the same time, the wireless charger doesn’t get warm.

Reliability

This is a very reliable wireless charger and we think that for the price, it’s actually worth it. That said, it’s really only worth it if you own a Samsung Qi compatible smartphone or the iPhone X or iPhone 8. That’s because this wireless charger is capable of charging them at fast wireless speeds. If you own another Qi-Compatible smartphone then it’s best to get a standard wireless charger.

The use of a USB-A port is also a nice addition, too.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is very good as this charger features Fast Wireless charging for Samsung smartphones and the iPhone X and iPhone 8. There’s also a USB-A port on this charger. The use of a USB-C input port is a great design choice.

Design:

The charger is larger than most wireless charging pads, but even so, it’s still small.

Build:

Build quality is top touch, and the charger makes use of heat ventilation grills to make sure that it doesn’t overheat even when you’re charging two devices at once with it.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable charger that’s perfect for wireless charging smartphones, also useful for charging another device with its USB-A port. Perhaps what makes it most reliable is that it comes with a Quick Charge wall charger and a USB-C cable, and also that it uses the new standard of USB-C.
