Battery cases are a tough case (Pun intended) because they’re very useful on one side. After all, they’re able to charge your smartphone at least one time and the best thing is that your case is your power bank so there’s no need to hold a separate charger in another hand.

On the other side is that Battery cases don’t usually hold the same characteristics that normal cases have because battery cases are usually larger and aren’t even protective so you have to make sure what the battery case is like before buying.

Take for example this Alpatronix iPhone 6 and 6s Plus battery case.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity starts at 4,000mAh and that’s a good thing because you’re going to lose about 1,000mAh of power during charging. After all, battery cases use Lithium Polymer batteries.

Of course, there’s much space to place the tech needed to make the conversion of energy better during charging.

With that said, even though the battery does lose 1,000mAh of power capacity that’s quite alright because a power capacity of 3,000mAh that you can use will be most useful for charging the iPhone 6 Plus.

Since the iPhone 6 Plus has a power capacity of 2,915mAh and the power capacity of the iPhone 6s Plus is 2,750mAh. So you’ll be able to charge either of those devices to their full power only once.

With that said, that’s the purpose of battery cases in the first place because they really can’t have much larger power capacities without being too large, and this one gives you the ability to recharge your smartphones to its full power capacity again throughout the day and ready for full-on usage.

Output Charging:

The Output charging could be better because it’s only 5V/1.0A. The iPhone 6, in general, has a max charging speed of 5V/2.0A and so you’re just getting half the recharge speed that it should be getting.

Input Charging:

Also, the recharge rate is the same as the Output charging because it charges at 5V/1.0A too. As long as you’re using a 1 Amp wall charger to recharge the battery case, you’ll be able to get a full recharge within 4 hours.

Strangely, though, recharging is done through a Micro-USB input port, it would have been a better design if it recharged with Lightning Input since those that purchase this battery case are mostly only using Lightning charging cables.

Design

Size and Weight:

There’s not much surprise with its weight or size because it’s the same size as an iPhone 6 Plus, just slightly bigger though because it’s a case for the smartphone.

So it has a length of 6.8 inches, a width of 3.2 inches, and a thickness of 0.5 inches. The weight of the battery case is 4.6 ounces.

So is it going to add a lot of thickness to your iPhone 6 Plus? Well not a lot, but like many battery cases, this will add thickness to your smartphone but it’ll still make it manageable enough to fit this battery case into your pocket.

Functional Components:

Like a lot of battery cases, there are some things that you need to know before purchasing it like how you turn the battery case off and if it’s easy to put it on or take it off. Let’s go over those things.

The battery case is separated into 2 main pieces with the large main piece that holds the battery and then there’s the front bumper that holds your iPhone 6 Plus into place. First, you place your iPhone 6 Plus onto the Lightning charging head and then place the bumper on top of the case.

Behind the battery case is where there’s the power button as well as 4 White LED power capacity indicators. Just press the power button to begin charging and press the power button to turn to charge off. The front part of the battery case has a sound chamber at the bottom to make sure that you’re still able to listen to sounds.

At the bottom side is where there’s the Audio Jack opening and that’s where the Audio Jack extender that comes with this battery case is most useful because it makes audio usage more convenient to use even with the battery case on. Also at the bottom is where the Micro-USB Input is located to recharge the battery case.

Build

Structure and Material:

The first thing that you should know about the build quality is that this battery case is not shockproof. It’s made of plastic on the outside that has a matte finish to make holding it easier, but that about it.

Yet the case itself does get scratched even when Alpatronix exclaims that the matte finish can’t be scratched.

Also, even though the front bumper can lessen the space between surfaces between the iPhone’s screen and the surface that it touches, this is by no means a protective case and if you do drop your phone with this case on, there isn’t a guarantee that it will be safe.

This is why we recommend using the Alpatronix BX150Plus series because that battery case is still for the iPhone 6 / 6s Plus but it’s shockproof and will protect your iPhone.

With that said, the shockproof series one is also bigger.

Tech:

The battery case does have a few protective features like Shor-Circuit protections and Over-Charge protection so the battery case automatically turns off when your phone is fully recharged.

Reliability

It’s more slim than other battery cases on the market and we find it to be reliable for what it has to offer. Since the battery case has 3,000mAh of useful power to recharge your iPhone 6 Plus to its full power and ready to take on the day.

So yeah, it’s reliable if you want power for the entire day and still have the similar portability that you’d get from any other case that isn’t a battery case.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity is enough to charge your iPhone 6 to full, but it won’t be recharging it at its max charging speed.

Design:

As slim as it is, it’s still going to add thickness to your iPhone but not so much that makes it uncomfortable to carry around. It blends quite well.

Build:

It’s not a shockproof battery case, so you shouldn’t go dropping it, it just provides light protection.

Reliability:

If you want to charge your iPhone 6 Plus to its full power and have enough portability while doing it with a battery case, then this is it.
