When it comes to portable charging, most people think of power banks with built-in batteries and can be recharged once they lose all their power. However, as useful and innovative as power banks are, they do lose their power capacity. If you’re hiking or camping, basically in a locality that you’re unable to recharge, then a power bank may not be the best charger to use. Instead, it would likely be more useful to use a Solar charger.

In this review, we’re taking a look at this ITEHIL 100W Monocrystalline Solar panel charger. It’s one of the few solar chargers on the market that can take in 100W of power, and it features useful charging methods if you’re in the wilderness.

Power

Output Charging:

The best part of this ITEHIL solar charger is that its large four-panel sections can output 100W of charging power, which is rather rare on the market. There are three ways to use the charger.

It has two USB-A ports and a single DC port. One USB-A port has a 10W standard charging speed, and the other uses Quick Charge to fast charge Android smartphones. The DC port on the solar charger has an 18Volt power output, this makes the DC port perfect for charging most DC laptops, and you can also use it to power certain appliances powered via a DC port.

When it comes to using the Solar charger, we’re surprised that it was efficient to transfer sunlight into charging power. Even during a cloudy day, the charger can charge two smartphones at the same time. Direct sunlight would be the best way to use the charger as it needs light to function, though. Also, yes, just a reminder, this does not have built-in batteries like a power bank.

The charger comes with a DC to DC cable and eleven different DC adapters that can be used for certain devices.

Design

Size and Weight:

The charger does have a bit of weight to it, and the size is either larger or smaller depending on whether you have it folded or fully unfolded when you’re using it. It weighs 11 pounds, and it’s not too heavy, especially if you have the solar charger connect to a backpack and have the solar panels facing out so you can charge your devices as you’re moving.

When the charger is folded, it has a width of 20 inches and a length of 14 inches; unfolded, the charger still has a width of 20 inches and a length of 67 inches. So if you’re unfolding it fully, then you’re going to need a lot of space.

Functional Components:

The charger has a few usable parts making using the charger more convenient. It has lanyard holes and comes with four buckles that you can use to attach the charger to things. The charger also has a kickback stand, so the charger stands up instead of laying down.

The charging ports are located on a charging brick to the charger’s side, and there is a folder covering that you can place your devices under.

Build

Structure and Material:

The charger has an ETFE film covering the solar panels that provides safety to the panels while still causing less interference between the light and the panels. The charger has a water-resistant rating of IPX4, so it withstands splashes of water. However, it’s best to keep the charger away from water at all times.

Tech:

This ITEHIL solar charger uses Monocrystalline solar panels that make solar efficiency a lot better than others.

Reliability

The reliability of a solar charger is difficult to gauge, but if you’re looking for a source of power that cannot deplete in power, this ITEHIL solar charger is a good option. Of course, it doesn’t have a stored amount of power in the first place compared to a power bank; all you need is access to sunlight, and this solar charger can charge your mobile devices or a DC charging laptop if you have one. The power output of 100W is also reliable and higher than most other panels on the market.

That said, if it’s nighttime or a very dark and cloudy day on your hiking or campaign trip, then this charger will not perform optimally. Direct sunlight is when the ITEHIL charger is at its best.

The solar panel does use some small useful features that make using it easier, though, and a few accessories.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power isn’t exactly amazing, but it’s good enough for what a solar charger can output. It has a standard 10W USB-A port, Quick Charge port, and an 18V DC port.

Design:

The charger is a bit heavy at 11 pounds, and when folded out, it has a 67-inch length. Folded, the charger is easy to carry with a handle.

Build:

It has an IPX4 splash water-resistant rating, uses ETFE film that makes sunlight exposure easier to the panels while still protecting them. At the same time, the solar panels themselves are made of Monocrystalline for better power efficiency that makes it possible for the solar charger to output 100W.

Reliability:

In ideal conditions, this ITEHIL charger performs beautifully with its power output, and the solar panels do well enough with power transfer even in less than ideal conditions.

Conclusion:

There are quite a few Solar panel chargers on the market, but there are still only a few 100W ones that can transfer charging power as good as this ITEHIL charger. If you’re looking for a 100W solar charger to recharge your portable power station or charge your smartphones when you’re camping, hiking, or on a road trip, this ITEHIL Solar panel is a good choice.
