Portable chargers are one of the best charging electronics to own as they’re a very versatile charging electronic.

They’re able to go with us everywhere as they have batteries of their own and power banks can also take advantage of powerful charging techs such as Quick Charge and USB-C Power Delivery. It’s a great thing as you can take that powerful charging wherever you go.

In this case, the power bank that we’re reviewing takes a sedentary and highly limited charging method and makes it portable.

It’s called the Jackery AirRocket and it’s a portable charger that actually has wireless charging. This power bank is basically what wireless charging is supposed to be, with literally no wires at all, but of course, you will have to recharge this power bank eventually.

That said, wireless charging with a power bank can be very convenient and is rather new to the market.

So let’s take a look at what this Jackery charger has and if it’s all really as good as it sounds.

Power

Power Capacity:

This charger has quite a low power capacity of 6,000mAh. Now, you may think that it’s not a lot, and that’s true. 6,000mAh of power capacity is not very much, but let’s dig a little deeper to see how much of the initial capacity you’ll actually be able to use.

3.7 x 6,000 = 22,200 / 5 = 4,440

Overall, you’re actually going to be able to use 4,440mAh of the power capacity that this Jackery AirRocket has and that enough capacity to charge most smartphones to their full power. This power bank is a mini charger and it shows not only with the capacity but also with size/weight too, which we get into more details later on in this review.

The amount of power capacity is enough to serve the purpose of this power bank and that would be to charge smartphones, as wireless charging is a method that smartphones are mostly able to do.

Of course, you can also charge tablets with this power bank as it has a USB-A charging port but with the 4,440mAh output capacity, it’s not really worth it.

Output Charging:

There are two ways to charge your devices with this power bank.

The first one that we want to mention is a most used method with portable chargers and that would be through its USB-A output port. There is only a single USB port and it has a charging speed of 5V/2.1A.

It’s quite fast and the USB port charging with this Jackery AirRocket is faster than the wireless charging that this charger has. It’ll be able to charge smartphones and tablets quite quickly, but at the same time, it doesn’t feature Quick Charge so you won’t be able to charge your Quick Charge compatible devices at their max charging speed.

Then the main charging method and the reason that you’re getting this charger is Wireless charging that it has. The wireless charging speed with this power bank is 5V/1.0A and it’s quite good in terms of wireless charging.

That said, this isn’t the fastest charging speed that you’re able to get with wireless charging as dedicated wireless chargers such as this Samsung wireless charger use a Quick Charge wall charger in order to output a wireless charging speed of 5V/2.0A.

Of course, not being able to output the max wireless charging speed isn’t a fatal flaw with this Jackery power bank as it’s a power bank that features wireless charging.

Input Charging:

Recharging this power bank is done through a USB-C port and the fact that it uses USB-C to recharge shows forward thinking from Jackery. There are definitely more power banks on the market that are using USB-C for recharging, but many portable chargers are still using Micro-USB. It’s with this USB-C input that you’re able to recharge this power bank at a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and we’re glad to see a faster recharging speed with a mini portable charger and have it join the new USB-C standard of charging.

Design

Size and Weight:

This power bank will hold practically zero problems when it comes to carrying it around and charging your devices as it has a very small size and a lightweight to go with it.

The length of this charger is 5.8 inches, it has a width of 2.8 inches, and a thickness of 0.6 inches. The weight of the charger is 6.3 Ounces. Overall, can slide right into your pocket and you can hold it easily too by stacking your smartphone on top of it.

Speaking of stacking your smartphone on top of it, that’s one of the best ways to use this power bank as it uses wireless charging.

Functional Components:

There are a few functional parts on this Jackery AirRocket portable charger and overall this charger is easy to use.

On top of the charger is where you’ll place your smartphone to start charging, then the rest of the functional parts of the power bank are to the sides. Such as on the short side, the power bank has its USB-A charging port and it also has its USB-C input port.

On one long side of the charger is where you’ll find 4 White LED power capacity indicators and the power button right next to them.

Then on the opposite side of where the power button is where you’ll find a LED indicator that shows whether or not wireless charging is taking place. If the indicator shows Green then your smartphone is wirelessly charging. If the light is not on then you’re it’s not wirelessly charging.

Build

Structure and Material:

Build quality for this wireless charging power bank feels great. The charger is made of plastic but even so, the entire structure is built very well. Definitely not shock resistant but it should do well with everyday use and place your phone on it for wireless charging repeatedly holds no problems.

Tech:

On the tech, we had our concerns with this charter and the reason for that is because wireless charging produces quite a lot of heat when you’re dealing with stationary ones. Taking wireless charging with a portable charger could have turned out to be quite dangerous.

Fortunately, Jackery was smart to make the wireless charging at a slow 1 Amp and therefore, you’re able to safely wirelessly charge your smartphone with this power bank without it risking any overheating.

Reliability

To put it simply, if you don’t own a smartphone that is capable of wireless charging, then you should not get this Jackery AirRocket power bank. As its wireless charging feature is the main event of this power bank and it’s one of the main reasons why this charger is quite expensive.

If you do have a smartphone that is able to charge wirelessly then you have more of a reason to get this power bank, because you can use its primary way of charging.

Summary:

Power:

There isn’t very much power capacity to be used here, but it’s enough to charge most smartphones to full power at least 1.5 times.

Charging is alright, but the main reason this charger was created so that you could take wireless charging with you practically anywhere, and you don’t get Quick Charge with the USB port and wireless charging speed is okay, but isn’t the fastest.

Good news is that it makes use of USB-C recharging and as a result, it has faster recharging.

Design:

The size of this power bank is about the same size as a smartphone and it’s also lightweight.

Build:

It has a good build to it and thankfully, Jackery made the charging speed with this power bank slower in order to provide a safer charging experience.

Reliability:

It’s a reliable portable charger that you’re going to want to consider getting if you own a wireless charging compatible smartphone and are someone that finds wireless charging useful.

Conclusion:

Wireless charging isn’t used too much, but the way that it can be implemented within other charging electronics such as this Jackery AirRocket proves to be very useful.
