We’ve talked about a lot of mini power banks here at Charger Harbor and this mini power bank called the Jackery Mini is another one to the additions of portable chargers.

It’s great to have a small power bank that has a design that can fit into your pocket, hand, or bag easily because overall power banks are meant to be portable; going into the higher capacity bracket will prove to not be so portable.

Take look at what this Jackery power bank has to offer with its mini portable design and other charging features in this Charger Harbor review.

Power Capacity

Like many mini power banks that are similar to the Jackery Mini, it has a capacity of 3,350mAh. We mention in our write up of what’s the best capacity for a power bank, in which we mention that small power banks usually have a capacity of at least 3,000mAh.

This is the case here, but the Jackery Mini does lose some of its capacity through charging because of heat generation and as a result, the power bank has a capacity of 3,000mAh. It’s acceptable for it to have this capacity because 3,000mAh is still enough to charge plenty of smartphones to their full capacities.

For example, charging iPhones with this Jackery Mini is a great decision because iPhones have smaller battery capacities compared to many Android smartphones.

If you want to charge tablets, then we recommend going for a higher capacity power bank because this capacity will charge a tablet about halfway through or much less and the power bank is meant to charge while you’re on the go.

Overall, though, the capacity of this power bank is great for charging most smartphones to their full capacities, however, some smartphones such as the Galaxy S7 Edge can surpass the Jackery Mini’s capacity and will only charge the S7 Edge to a 3rd of its capacity.

Output Charging

The charging speed of the mini power bank is what you’d expect from a charger of its size.

The Output charging speed is 5V/1.0A. It’s a standard charging that comes with power banks this small, but it’s important to remember that 1 Amp is quite limited even for charging smartphones and especially when it comes to charging tablets.

Some smartphones can charge faster than a single amp and tablets have a max charging speed of 2.4A. With that said, the output speed can be pushed to the 1.1A if the device it’s charging demands it, but that’s the limit.

I want to see a push for faster charging for power banks of this size because the truth is that fast charging along with amazing portability will create a better charging experience.

Input Charging (Recharge)

The recharging speed of the power bank is surprisingly better than the Output charging speed by being 5V/1.5A.

Most chargers have a matched charging speed when they’re this size but that’s not the case here. The recharging speed is faster and because of that, you can expect this power bank to be fully recharged in about 3 hours.

However, I still think that a faster-charging Output would have been better because that’s when the user is using the charger.

Design

Size and Weight:

The Jackery Mini takes a common design scheme and not so common design scheme. Most mini power banks are shaped cylindrically and because the design is sought to be more portable as less space is taken up; even though that does stand true to a certain extent, this cube design is just as portable and comfortable to use.

The Jackery Mini is a cube-shaped power bank that does as much a great job as those cylindrical small power banks such as the Tylt Mini or the RAVPower Luster.

The length of the Jackery Mini is 3.7 inches, the Width is 0.9 inches and the thickness is 0.8 inches. The weight is only 2.7 ounces.

Overall the Mini will be able to fit in into your pocket or be held in your hand while you charge your device. The pocket power bank is even able to fit into your pocket along with your smartphone.

Functional Components:

Going into the functional components, the power bank doesn’t do anything different and that’s pretty a good thing. You can find the Output and Input charging ports on the side panel.

There are a power button and 4 LED power capacity indicators at the top of the power bank. The charger does not auto-charge, meaning that you have to press the power button so it begins to charge. However, if you pull your device from the charger’s port, then the charger will shut off after 30 seconds.

The LED power indicators are helpful to check the charging capacity of the power bank but you have to turn on the power indicators by pressing the power button. When you connect a device to the charger, the power indicators don’t stay on.

Ultimately, the lack of autostart charging, auto shutoff, and how the LED lights stay off during charging; are all features to maximize the power capacity of the power bank. Nothing goes to waste thanks to the efficient design.

Build

Structure and Material

Its got most of the stand build features that you’ve come to expect. The body of the power bank is quite strong with the main center casing being Aluminum. Even though it’s Aluminium, you can expect the power bank to be scratched and smudged quite easily.

Two side panels are made of plastic but they’re placed very well and didn’t show any signs of being poked out of their places; although that has more to do if the battery started to swell, that’s not the case here.

Along with the small, no edged, and lightweight design, the power bank is strong, and using it every day should pose no problems.

Tech

Going inside the small portable charger, we find the usual safety tech like Short Circuit Protection, Temperature Control, and Voltage/Current Protection. All these tech features ensure that your device is safe if you were to use this charger every day.

The main thing, though, is the power bank’s Panasonic Battery cells, because they contribute heavily to the charger’s power capabilities. Panasonic Battery cells have a great conversion rate, which is why the Output capacity of this charger is so close to the advertised capacity.

Also, Panasonic batteries have a longer lifespan and won’t degrade until you reach many more recharge cycles.

Reliability

It’s straight up a reliable piece of portable technology. The small power bank does a great job with being portable even if it’s designed differently than the competition.

It still holds onto lightweight and small dimensions and because of that, you can take it nearly anywhere you’d like. The most notable thing though is the power.

Sure, the Jackery Mini does not have a high capacity but it does great within its class by providing a 3,000mAh Output capacity that can charge most smartphones to their full capacities. Some smartphones may leave this power bank with 1 more charge, other smartphones will take advantage of the entire capacity.

The charging speed is to be expected at just 1 Amp charging speed for the Output and a surprising 1.5 Amp charging speed for the Input. You find the charging speed for your devices a little underwhelming but the power bank does deliver.

The recharging speed is what makes it more dependable though by being able to recharge within just 3 hours. With all that said, the Jackery Mini is meant for smartphones, tablets, on the other hand, will make for a very disappointing experience.

Lastly, the build holds a strong physical structure and the power bank features loads of safety tech.

Although the most reliable long-term build feature that’s the best is the Panasonic Battery cells that can have a great conversion rate and not degrade until much later compared to normal Lithium-Ion batteries.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity of the Jackery Mini power bank does well with great conversion and as a result, the charger can charge many smartphones to their full capacities and still have some power left over.

On some smartphones, the power bank will under-deliver simply because some smartphones have large battery capacities. The charging Output and Input speed are good but nothing to be amazed about.

Design:

Jackery Mini is what its name implies. The charger is quite portable by being able to fit into a pocket along with your smartphone.

The way its functional design is meant to conserve as much power capacity as possible. The power bank does not begin auto charging, so you have to press the button to begin to charge your device. It turns off automatically after 30 seconds if nothing is connected to the power bank.

Lastly, the Jackery Mini has LED power indicators to tell capacity but they can only be seen when you press the power button and turn off after a while of being on. All these design features are to conserve power.

Build:

It’s a really well build power bank that an  Aluminum casing and although it is structurally strong, the Aluminum casing is still open to scratches and smudged.

As usual, the charger has plenty of safety tech features that keep your devices safe with daily use. The most helpful thing, though, is the use of Panasonic battery cells that lend to the power capacity because of their conversion rate and how they degrade slowly.

Reliability:

The Jackery Mini is a reliable small power bank that does a great job at being strong, powerful, and having a design that can be taken anywhere. It’s an optimized mini power bank that can offer more but at this point, it delivers on what we expect it to.

Specs of the Jackery Mini Power Bank:

  • Power Capacity: 3,350mAh
  • Output: 5V/1.0A
  • Input: 5V/1.5A via Micro USB Input
  • LED Power Indicators: 4 LED Power Capacity Indicators
  • Size: 3.7 x 0.9 x 0.8 inches
  • Weight: 2.7 Ounces

Conclusion:

The Jackery Mini is a great portable charger that will deliver a great daily charging experience. It doesn’t do anything different but that’s okay.

The power banks do their best with conserving as much power as possible by having not-so-usual design features. The size is perfect for portability and the weight won’t hold you down at all.

The use of Panasonic Battery cells are is a very welcoming innovation because they provide a good power capacity that holds true or at least near true to the advertised power capacity and the battery cells don’t degrade as quickly.
