Portable power sources are among the most useful types of charging and powering devices that are available on the market.

Sure, they’re very large and heavy and not meant for everyday use in normal circumstances.

However, these types of devices have amazing capabilities that can be taken anywhere where there’s no power and enable you to charge your devices and power appliances. These kinds of power supplies are not very common in the marketplace as it’s quite expensive to produce them.

With that said, this is the Jackery Power Pro, which is a power supply that has recently left its Kickstarter scene is now ready to sell in the marketplace. It stands to compete with other portable power sources such as Anker’s PowerHouse and Goal Zero’s Yeti 400 power supply. Let’s see what this titan has in store for us.

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of Jackery Power Pro is 500Wh and that’s about 140,000mAh of initial power capacity.

That is a lot of power, but it’s not the amount that you’re going to receive because if you’ve read our other reviews here are Charger Harbor, then you probably know that power capacity is lost during charging because the conversion of power is happening. With normal power banks, it’s quite prevalent and the conversion of power can fluctuate depending on what you’re charging.

The same is true for the Jackery Power Pro, however, in this case, there’s not only charging going on but you can also power appliances too.

If you’re charging and powering appliances at the same time, then that could lead to a worse than the normal conversion of the power capacity and so the Output power capacity that you’ll be able to use won’t be anywhere near the initial.

Just like in most of our reviews though, we’re going to calculate the average amount of Output power capacity that you’re going to receive without going all out with the Jackery Power Pro.

3.7 x 140,000 = 518,000 / 5 =  103,600

On average, you’re going to be receiving an Output power capacity of 103,600mAh that you’re able to use with Jackery Power Pro and this is still a very high power capacity that will enable you to charge devices multiple times to full power and to power devices for a long duration of time.

Power Capacity for Smartphones

When it comes to charging smartphones with this power supply, there are no limits because in general smartphones have low battery capacities.

So charging a smartphone with a relatively low capacity such as an iPhone 7 with its 1,960mAh capacity will result in 53 full charges for an iPhone 7.

Charging a smartphone with a high battery capacity will still result in lots of full charges such as the Google Pixel XL smartphone that has a 3,450mAh capacity and the Jackery Power Pro can charge it to its full power 30 times.

Just a quick thing to note is that these full charges are based on charging these devices alone and not charging or powering anything else at the same time. If you were charging a smartphone and powering an appliance at the same time then it would result in fewer full charges because there’s power being outputted elsewhere.

Power Capacity for Tablets

Charging tablets with the Jackery Power Pro will also prove to be very useful. Tablets such as the iPad Mini 4 with its 5,124mAh power capacity can charge to its full power about 20 times and the iPad Mini 2 can charge to its full power 16 times. Full-Sized Tablets are also good for charging to full power multiple times since they can do it about 14 times.

Power Capacity for Laptops

Since the Jackery Power Pro has the powering capabilities to charge laptops, you can even charge most laptops on the market to their full power. Laptops such as MacBooks, Dell, and HP can charge to full power about 6-10 times or maybe, even more, depending on what laptops specifically you’re going to be charging.

Output Charging:

When it comes to the Output of the Jackery Power Pro there’s quite a lot going on and that is a great thing because you’re most likely going to find a use for everything that it has.

USB Ports:

There are two USB ports on the Jackery Power Pro and each of the ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.1A.

It’s a fast enough charging speed to charge smartphones and tablets to full power at noticeable speeds. It’s important to know that neither of the USB ports features Quick Charge so if you own a Quick Charge compatible device then the charging ports won’t be offering a max charging speed.

2.1 Amps is still better than taking the easy way out by making the ports have a charging speed of 5V/1.0A speeds and we think the current USB port speeds can prove useful no matter what USB chargeable device you’re charging.

12V Cigarette Lighter Port 10A/120W Total

There’s a 12V outlet that is going to be very useful for charging and powering devices that can be powered via the 12V outlet. As you should have no problems because this output has a power outage of 120Watts.

(2) 12V DC 6MM Ports:

Next, to the 12V outlet, two DC Output ports are capable of Outputting 12V of the power. These DC ports can prove to be very helpful for charging laptops or appliances if they meet the power requirements of 120Watts that these two DC Ports are capable of.

AC Outlet:

Finally, there’s the AC Outlet and it’s one of the most useful powering parts of the Jackery Power Pro simply because we have a lot of devices that use an AC Adapter to be powered or for charging and so you can power appliances and devices with the AC Outlet on the Jackery Power Pro.

One of the greatest parts of the AC Outlet is its max output capabilities which are 300Watts of power. For just a single AC Outlet on a portable power supply that is a lot of power, because you’re able to power a Mini-fridge, lamps, and even a TV if you have one that fits the power requirements.

Overall, the AC Outlet on this power supply has got some powerful output capabilities that make it great to use when even when you’re away from a stable source of power because it’s just like using a wall outlet in your home.

Input Charging:

The Jackery Power Pro is capable of recharging through a DC Input port. There are two ways for recharging the power supply. You can either use the AC Adapter that comes with the Jackery Power Pro or you can use a Solar charger for recharging it.

The max charging speed of the power supply is 25.2V/4.0A and it’s best to use the AC Adapter for the fastest recharging speed of 6-7 hours. If you’re using a Solar charger then the recharge time is going to take a longer time because it’s not as powerful and you could be waiting a day or two for a full recharge when it comes to solar recharging the power supply.

Design

Size and Weight:

Of course, when you have this much power the portable power supply is going to be quite large and heavy, which is exactly what this Jackery Power Pro is.

It has a length of 14.8 inches, a width of 13.3 inches, and a thickness of 8 inches. The weight of the power supply is 20 pounds. Overall, this isn’t something that you’re going to be want to hold for hours, and for the most part, you’re just going to be setting it down and charging or powering your devices.

Functional Components:

On the functional side of things, the Jackery Power Pro is very easy to use.

That’s because the powering and charging ports have a power button to activate that certain part of the Jackery Power Pro. So the two USB ports have a power button that you can press to activate the USB charging.

The two DC Ports and the 12V Outlet have a power button that you can press to activate them too. The AC Outlet has a power button labeled “AC” above it that you must press to activate it.

Each of the powering and recharging options has a light next to each of them to show that it has been activated and if the light is off then it has not been activated.

At the front, the Jackery Power Pro is where you’re going to find an LCD power button to turn on the LCD. By pressing the “Display” button, the LCD turns on to show the Input and Output power that’s present at the moment in real-time. The display also shows the power capacity that the charger has left and it shows it in increments of 20%.

From the top and to the bottom, the battery logo is labeled like this:

  • Full
  • 80
  • 60
  • 40
  • 20

Above the DC Ports is where there’s a LED flashlight that can be turned on via a button right next to the flashlight. It’s a bright flashlight that can be useful if you’re out in the woods and need a flashlight.

It’s Great to Use

The best part about using the Jackery Power Pro is that it’s a quick device. When it comes to large devices like these you usually have to hold things down and do certain things to use them.

In this case, though, the Power Pro has a great user experience because there are just buttons that need to be pressed once, and then you’re ready to use certain parts of the power supply.

Build

Structure and Material:

The Jackery PowerPro Portable Power Station has an absolutely solid build quality.

The black center part of it is splashproof. It’s mostly made of plastic but the plastic is placed very well to make the charger strong and the plastic plates are held strongly together by many screws. Overall, this power supply isn’t going to be breaking apart on you.

The components feel very high quality when you use them too.

Tech:

On the tech side of things, the Jackery Power Pro uses a Battery Management System that can regulate things like over-voltage, temperature, and current usage to make sure the powering and charging that is happening is kept stable.

Another thing that the Jackery Power Pro does is that it can shut itself off when it goes beyond its powering capabilities so it doesn’t damage itself or your devices.

Reliability

This power supply is very reliable and that can be said about most power supplies in general because they have lots of capabilities that can power our devices and charge them too.

In this case, the Power Station has a very powerful AC Outlet that can power appliances within the 300Watt range so you can power mini-fridges, coffee machines, a CPAP machine, and lots of other appliances that you need right then and there.

The other powering and charging abilities it has are going to be very useful too because it has USB ports, DC Outputs ports, and a 12V outlet that can be used for a multitude of purposes.

Overall, as long as you can get over the heavyweight of the charger you’re going to be having a great experience with this power supply wherever you don’t have a stable source of power.
