One of the most useful charging technologies that can be implemented with portable chargers is Power Delivery, and the reason for that is because there are many devices that are becoming compatible with the charging tech. The reason for that is because it’s used with the USB-C standard of connectivity that’s being used with many smartphones, tablets and also laptops, meaning that you can possibly use the same charger to charge all those types of devices.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at this Jackery SuperCharge 10,200mAh 18W Power Delivery portable charger. There are very few small mid-range power capacity portable chargers that make use of Power Delivery but this is a different type of Power Delivery charger, to begin with, it features a lower PD charging speed.

So let’s take a closer look at why you should purchase this power bank in the first place.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this power bank starts at 10,200mAh, and the important thing to remember is that the initial or advertised power capacity of a power bank is not what you’re actually able to use. During charging, the power capacity of a power bank goes through a conversion rate, and so let’s figure out how much of the power capacity you’re actually able to use from this charger.

10,200 x 3.7 = 37,740 / 5 = 7,548

The average output capacity that you’re actually able to use with this power bank is going to be about 7,500mAh, that said, that’s really only if you’re using the standard USB-A port. However, you’re more than likely going to be using the Power Delivery port on this power bank and as it has an 18W charging rate, which is faster, and a faster charging rate basically lowers conversion of power, then you’re likely going to be receiving about 6,500mAh of output capacity.

Overall, this Jackery SuperCharge power bank is mainly meant for charging smartphones and even though Power Delivery is used with quite a few larger devices, this power bank is perfect to use for smartphones that are not compatible with Quick Charge and rather use Power Delivery. These smartphones include the Essential Phone, Google Pixel 2, and Galaxy smartphones such as the Galaxy S8 and onwards. As the power capacity is enough to charge a smartphone with a 3,000mAh battery to full power about two times.

Output Charging:

There are two ports to use from this power bank, there’s a UBS-A port that has a standard 5V/2.4A charging speed, and there’s the 18W USB-C Power Delivery port.

An 18W charging rate from a Power Delivery port is basically where Power Delivery begins and is most useful for charging Power Delivery compatible smartphones at their max charging speed. The 18W charging rate is also faster than a regular USB-C port that does not feature PD, and so it charges a MacBook at a faster charging speed, but not at max power.

Fast charging a Galaxy S8

So only get this power bank if you’re planning on charging a Power Delivery compatible smartphone, as the Power Delivery charging isn’t in the same range for charging a laptop that’s USB-C Power Delivery compatible, as the power bank would need to feature 30W, 45W, or 60W with its use USB-C port.

Input Charging:

Recharging is done through the same USB-C port and you’re able to recharge the power bank at Power Delivery speeds, that said, you need a Power Delivery wall charger but this power bank does not come with one. Any Power Delivery wall charger will do though, and you don’t need a specific 18W Power Delivery wall charger. A 30W, 45W or a 60W Power Delivery wall charger will work just fine.

Design

Size and Weight:

One of the best parts of this Jackery SuperCharge power bank is that it manages to use Power Delivery but with a small form factor, and that’s mainly by keeping the power capacity low. The charger has a length of 3.6 inches, a width of 3.1 inches and a thickness of 0.8 inches. So you can fit this charger into your pocket and it has a weight of 8 Ounces.

Functional Components:

When it comes to using the power bank is very simple, just as it should be. The power button and two ports are on the same slim side and on top of the power bank are where you’ll find four White LED power capacity indicators. You do have to press the power button to begin charging through either of the ports.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality is what you can expect from Jackery, with it being made of Aluminum Shell as most of their power banks. The functional parts such as the power button and the two ports feel great to use.

Tech:

The only time the power bank gets a little warm is when you’re using the two ports at the same time, however, if you’re solely just using the Power Delivery port it does not get warm.

Reliability

The reliability of this power bank is short-ranged but that’s not a bad thing. It simply means that the Power Delivery charging power from this power bank is really meant for smartphones that are Power Delivery compatible and not really for USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptops, as 18W of charging power isn’t enough.

Summary:

Power:

There’s enough power capacity to charge most smartphones to full power at least two times and the Power Delivery charging is perfect for PD compatible smartphones.

Design:

It has a very small size and can be taken anywhere easily whether you have it in your hand or if you place it in your pocket.

Build:

The charger is built well and feels premium to use just as it says on the Amazon page.

Reliability:

Even though this charger features Power Delivery and there are quite a lot of devices other than smartphones that are compatible with Power Delivery, it’s the most reliable for smartphones because of its lower PD charging power.
