USB-C chargers have all sorts of power outputs that you’re able to utilize that can be used to charge a wide range of USB-C chargeable devices. The higher the power output USB-C Power Delivery charger you get, the more devices it can charge. Of course, when it comes to higher-powered chargers, they are more expensive and larger. So if you’re not exactly looking into needing the most power and don’t want to spend an exuberant amount of money, it’s best to get a charger that fits your needs exactly.

In this review, we’re taking a look at this KOVOL 40W Sprint USB-C Power Delivery wall charger that features two USB-C ports. The charger may not have tons of power, but it can provide the necessities for most users.

Power

Output Charging:

So this KOVOL wall charger may not cover all USB-C charging needs, but it can cover enough that it may fit your needs. That’s because the charger has two USB-C Power Delivery ports and a 40W max output. If you’re only charging a single device with the charger, then the max power you can use is 30W, but charging two devices at the same time, then each of the USB-C ports is capable of outputting 20W.

With a 30W Power Delivery charge rate, you can charge some USB-C laptops, but not all. For example, we tried to charge a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 with this KOVOL charger, but it could not charge. Instead, we opted for charging a Samsung Galaxy S20 alone, and it was able to super fast charge at 25W. That’s because this KOVOL charger also features Programmable Power Supply (PPS) charging for compatible USB-C devices such as newer model Samsung phones.

When it comes to dual charging, each port will output either a 20W and 20W split or a 25W and 15W split of power. In our tests with charging two devices, we charged a Samsung Galaxy A51 and a Galaxy Note 9 simultaneously, and both devices were able to fast charge. So charging two phones can be done easily with this charger.

Super fast charging a Galaxy S20

Going back to single charging, a 30W Power Delivery output can also be used for charging a Macbook, but that isn’t the max charge rate of the laptop, but it can still be done with this KOVOL charger. Overall, if you have a Macbook you’re looking to fast charge tablets and smartphones, this KOVOL charger is a good choice. However, in terms of charging more than just Macbooks, it’s best to go with a more powerful PD wall charger as 30W of Power Delivery may not be enough.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this KOVOL 40W charger will not be a problem because the charger has a length and width of 2 inches and a thickness of 1 inch. Along with its small size, it has a foldable plug to make sure that the plug doesn’t break or get in the way while you’re traveling with it.

Functional Components:

Like using any other wall charger, you only have to unfold the plug and plug it into an outlet. There is a blue power light at the front of the charger to show that it’s powered and ready to use.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this KOVOL charge is excellent, and we don’t have complaints and can’t point to any flaws of the charger because there aren’t any. Of course, you should be cautious of dropping or exposing the charger to water, and that’s the case with all wall chargers.

Tech:

Even charging a single device with super-fast charging a Galaxy S20 or charging two devices simultaneously, this charger may get a little warm, but it never got hot during our tests.

Reliability

This KOVOL charger is most reliable for fast charging phones and tablets, and it can be used to charge select few USB-C laptops such as the Macbook that can charge with a 30W Power Delivery charge rate. However, if you’re getting this charger and thinking about charging a Surface laptop, Chromebook, or a Lenovo laptop, then it’s best to get a more powerful PD wall charger, such as one that’s in the 45W, 65W, or higher range.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is optimal enough for fast charging phones and tablets. It can fit into charging particular USB-C laptops, but if you’re looking for a PD wall charger for also charging laptops, then get one that is more powerful as the 30W of Power Delivery from the KOVOL charger may not be enough.

Design:

The size of this charger is tiny, and you won’t have any problems being portable with it.

Build:

There is nothing to report on the build, as this KOVOL charger only gets a little warm, which is entirely normal, and the plug folds, so it’s completely safe from being damaged when traveling.

Reliability:

The most reliable use of this charger is when charging phones and tablets, and only some laptops. You won’t charge most USB-C chargeable laptops as a 30W charge rate is too low for most USB-C laptops to charge with.

Conclusion:

If you’re looking for a dynamic charging and capable USB-C Power Delivery wall charger that can fast charge your phone and tablet, then this KOVOL charger is a good choice. If you have a Macbook that charges via USB-C, then this KOVOL charger can do well, but if you have any other USB-C laptop, it’s better to get a more powerful Power Delivery charger as 30W may not be quite enough.
