A USB-C laptop charger usually has a high power output, and if you’re searching for a wall charger, you’re mostly going to find chargers with few ports. A desktop charger is a type you want to go for if you want lots of power to charge even your laptop while charging other devices. Also, the design of a desktop charger can be more convenient to use because it has a power cord that gives you more flexibility on where you want to place the charger.

In this review, we’re looking at the Kovol Sprint 4-port 120W PD desktop charger with a very high max output and can be a universal charger for most consumers.

Power

Output Charging:

As we mentioned, this Kovol desktop charger has a lot to offer regarding its charging power, as it has a 120W max output. Charging power does change from each port depending on how many devices you’re charging simultaneously. The Kovol charger has four ports in total, with two USB-C 2 ports and two USB-A ports. Each of the two USB-A ports features Quick Charge for fast charging Android phones but can also charge other USB-C chargeable devices.

USB-C 1 on this Kovol desktop charger is the top USB-C port, and USB-C 1 is the most influential port. You’re able to receive 100W of Power Delivery from USB-C 1 if you’re only charging a single device, and with that much power, you can charge most devices. Most laptops can charge at their max speed with a 100W charge rate, and you can fast charge tablets and smartphones with the port.

Charging a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 laptop, Surface Go tablet, a Samsung Galaxy S20, and a Galaxy Note 9, all simultaneously.

Charging two devices, one via USB-C 1 and another via USB-C 2, results in a 60W Power Delivery charging speed from each of the two ports. A 60W charge rate is still lots of power that can charge most laptops. Therefore you can charge two laptops simultaneously.

Charge rate for the Lenovo laptop

However, charging three or four devices simultaneously results in only a single laptop being able to charge because USB-C 1 outputs 65W, USB-C 2 outputs 20W, and both of the USB-A ports will output 18W when charging four devices; this is still incredible because you can have a laptop charging, and still have a tablet, and two smartphones fast charging.

Fast charging for the Samsung Galaxy S20

In our tests, we were able to charge Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 laptop from USB-C 1, USB-C 2 was charging a Surface Go tablet, and from the two USB-A ports, we had a Samsung Galaxy S20 and a Galaxy Note 9 fast charging.

Design

Size and Weight:

This Kovol charger uses GaN that makes it smaller while still letting it output lots of charging power. That’s why the charger has a length of 3.3 inches and a width of 1.8 inches. Of course, it’s not as portable as a wall charger because it doesn’t have a built-in AC adapter, but the charger itself is small and can be placed on a desk without taking much space at all.

The downside of portability with this charger is keeping track of the power cord, but that can be wrapped around the charger so it doesn’t get in the way.

Functional Components:

The charger has all the ports on the same side, and there are three green LED lights that turn on once the charger is plugged in to show that it’s powered and ready to use. Included in the box is the power cord that you have plugged into the back of the charger.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this Kovol desktop charger is excellent, and even though it looks like the brand is just starting, the build quality that you’re getting is equivalent to more prominent brands.

Tech:

If you’re charging four devices simultaneously, then the charger will get a little warm, and this is entirely normal, especially when you consider that the charger has a 120W max power output.

Reliability

If you’re searching for a multi-port Power Delivery charger that can charge your laptop, and charge a few other devices simultaneously at a fast charging speed, then this Kovol desktop charger is the one. With a 120W max output, there’s plenty of power to go around.

However, know that this charger is priced higher because of its capabilities to deliver so much charging power than less powerful chargers.

Summary:

Power:

The charger has a 120W max output, and you’re able to use 100W from a single USB-C port when charging from one device. Even when charging four devices, you can utilize 65W from just a single port and have another three devices such as tablets or smartphones fast charging.

Design:

The charger has a small cube rectangle shape that is very small and won’t take up much space. The charger does use a power cord that gives you more freedom on where you want to place the charger.

Build:

The charger has a great build, and it does get a little warm when using the full power of the charger, but a charger getting warm is not a cause for concern as heat is generated with all chargers.

Reliability:

You’re able to charge a laptop and fast charge another three smaller devices. The price is steeper, though, but you’re getting what you paid for here.
