Portable chargers have all sorts of features these days, and they have definitely come a long way since even a few years ago, they were only able to charge smartphones. In this review, we’re taking a look at a portable jump starter that can also be used to charge smartphones, and it can even be used as a tire pump to fill your car tires with air if they have become deflated.

This may be considered more than a portable charger, and it is; however, these types of portable devices are great to own in case you have an emergency with your car not starting, you’re low on tire air pressure, or your phone needs charging. A regular power bank won’t be able to do what this LokiThor JA301 portable jump starter can do, and that’s what matters most.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this LokiThor portable jump starter is 20,000mAh, a high power capacity, but it’s not the highest that you can find when it comes to portable chargers. However, in this case, it’s the perfect amount that doesn’t make the jump starter too large or heavy, and you can still use all of its features to the fullest without losing much power.

In terms of charging from the single USB port from this portable charger and the 20,000mAh power capacity, you can fair about three or four full charges before the power is depleted. When it comes to jump-starting your car and filling up your tires with air, you won’t have to worry too much about losing power as those are more short-term uses of LokiThor JA301.

To put it simply, keep the jump-starter fully charged, and take it with you when you’re traveling, especially for road trips, and you will be able to rely on it for the whole time. The capacity is sufficient.

Output Charging:

This LokiThor jump starter has a total of three main ways to use it.

The first one that we want to mention is that it has a USB-A Quick Charge port at the front, and you can fast charge most Android smartphones with it. In our tests, we’re able to fast charge a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and an LG G7 with the USB-A port. You can also charge any other USB devices, and that includes iPhones too. The jump-starter does have a USB-C port, but unfortunately, you can only use the USB-C port to recharge the unit.

The jump-starter capabilities of the LokiThor JA301 are impressive as it has a 1000A Start Current and a 2000A Peak Current, and this much power allows you to jump-start most vehicles, no matter how large, or small they are. Portable jump-starters with lower Start and Peak currents have trouble jump-starting simply because that’s not enough power to jump-start most vehicles; having a higher current output such as this LokiThor unit eliminates that worry.

The tire pressure is easily one of our favorite parts of using this JA301 unit, and that’s because one of the most common problems of owning a car is having low tire pressure. This can be a pain to deal with as you don’t always want to get to a stationary air pump at a gas station.

The LokiThor JA301 can fill up tire pressure from 10 PSI to 150 PSI. The better part is that you’re able to manually set what tire pressure PSI you need, and the unit fills up your tire until it reaches the set PSI, then it automatically turns off. This is just like using a professional tire pump unit, but this is yours, and it’s portable.

Additionally, it tells you the current PSI while you’re filling up your tire.

Input Charging:

As we mentioned, the LOKITHOR JA301 has a USB-C port used to recharge the unit, and it’s able to recharge at 18W. So we recommend that you use an 18W Power Delivery wall charger to recharge it. We’re glad that it uses a USB-C port for recharging because many potable jump-starters use DC ports to recharge, and that can be a pain to deal with if you lose your DC adapter.

With the use of a USB-C input port, you have more freedom with the way you recharge.

Design

Size and Weight:

The unit is larger than a regular portable charger because of its tire pump and jump starter features. It has a length of 9.8 inches and weighs 3.9 pounds. So it’s not heavy, and not too large. You can easily place it in your car just in case, and it’s easy to be portable with because it has a large handle at the top.

Functional Components:

Using the LokiThor JA301 portable jump starter is a great experience. All of the parts that you plug something into are covered by rubber tabs, and that includes the jump-starter ports, the USB-C port, and the USB-A port, as well as the tire pressure port.

At the top of the unit is where you can find the flashlight power button and the flashlight itself is off the side. The LED flashlight is very bright, and we found that it can be very useful during the nighttime; it also has three settings that include constant on, flash, and an SOS mode.

At the front of the unit is where you’ll find all the main controls of the unit and the LCD screen. The buttons at the front include the power button, which lets you switch between BAR or PSI, Plus or Minus to decrease PSI pressure setting and the “Pump” button to start the tire air pump.

You have to hold the Pump button for about three seconds to turn it on.

The LCD screen shows the current power capacity of the unit, the current PSI of your tire, and your PSI setting. Not part of the LCD is the Battery jump-start indicators that include two lights; one is a Red light that shows that you’re not ready to crank your car, and the green light turns on to show that you can crank your car and start it.

The LokiThor JA301 is a USB-C to USB-A cable, two tire pump cables, and jumper cables. So you basically have everything that you need to start using it right out of the box.

Build

Structure and Material:

The JA301 unit is made very well, and it definitely withstands being place into your trunk, and you don’t have to worry about it. The tabs that cover the openings are useful to prevent damage to the important parts. However, this unit is not water-resistant, so it’s best to keep it away from liquids.

Tech:

The unit does get warm if you’re using it for tire pressure or jump-starting your car, and it makes sense as those are heavy power usage features.

Reliability

If you own a car, then it’s a good idea to own this LokiThor JA301 potable jumpstarter. You may not need it right now, but if your car battery ever dies, or if you’ve been putting that low tire pressure on hold and you’re at a point where you can’t even drive back home, then this is the product to own. It’s powerful with its jump-starting with a Peak Current of 2000A, and it can fill up all the way to 150 PSI.

It also has a few other features, including Quick Charge fast charging via its USB-A port and a very bright LED flashlight. The LCD screen is also useful for setting PSI pressure for the pump.

The unit has a great build, and you don’t have to worry about keeping it in your car while you drive.

Reliability:

This is one of the best “Just in case” products that you should own because you may never know when your car may need a jump-start or if your tires may need more air.
