Portable chargers are useful chargers that you’re able to take anywhere that you want. However, when it comes to being able to power appliances and for the power capacity to last for days or weeks, power banks are rather limited. That’s because they don’t use an AC outlet, and they don’t have power capacities within the 50,000mAh range.

That’s why there are portable power stations such as this MAXOAK 500Wh portable power station. This hulking portable power station is quite amazing as it features tons of power capacity. It features multiple ports to power your appliances and charges them, too.

Power

Power Capacity:

We need to make clear that this MAXOAK power station is not lacking in power. This portable power station has a 500Wh power capacity. If you’re using the power station with 11.1Volts, then you can expect about a 50,000mAh power capacity to use. However, if you’re using it at a 3.7Volt power output, you can expect a 135,000mAh usable power capacity. Higher power outputs burn into more power capacity to use.

Charging Smartphones

Even so, there’s a ton of power to go around. This MAXOAK power station can charge smartphones about 20 to 30 times if that’s all you would use to charge with the power station. Of course, if you’re getting this power station, then there’s a high chance that you’re going to be charge with larger devices like tablets and laptops.

Created for Charging Tablets and Laptops

Well, there’s good news, this power station is perfect for charging tablets and laptops. Especially because it has four USB-A ports and a USB-C Power Delivery port, you can also opt to connect your laptop charger to one of the two AC Outlets.

Most tablets and laptops have about 10,000mAh capacity, so you can expect to get about 3-5 full charges for most of them.

You can Power Appliances for a While

Then if we’re talking about how long the power station would last for powering appliances through the AC outlets, you can do quite a bit. The power output of the AC Outlets is 300W. So if you’re using a lamp, monitor, or mini heater that uses 100W of power, then you can expect to use this power station for about 3 hours. If you’re powering appliances that use 300W of power, then you can expect to use this power station for about an hour.

Output Charging:

So there are quite a few ways to use this MAXOAK 500Wh portable power station. Let’s take a look at all of them.

USB-A and USB-C Power Delivery Ports

There are a total of five charging ports on this power station. There are four USB-A ports, and each of the two pairs of the USB-A ports has a 3 Amp charging speed. A 3 Amp charging speed is a tad bit faster than other standard ports that usually have a 2.4 Amp output.

The main highlight when it comes to the charging ports is the USB-C Power Delivery port. Power Delivery is a fast charging technology that has become a lot more commonly used among portable devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptops. For this power station to directly have a PD port, it can be very useful for charging USB-C Power Delivery laptops such as the MacBook, USB-C Chromebooks, and most other laptops that use USB-C to charge from.

Most PD ports on power banks have a 30W charging speed, but with this 45W port, you’re able to charge your laptop faster. That said, make sure that your laptop can charge with a 45W Power Delivery port, as some laptops require that you use more powerful ports for your laptop to charge.

When it comes to charging your smartphone with the PD port, smartphones will be able to fast charge with it.

Wireless Charging

This AC50 power station even features wireless charging at the top. What’s even more impressive is that it has a 10W charging speed. This means that if you own a Samsung wireless charging phone, you’re able to fast charge your Samsung phone at a 10W charging speed.

Other Qi wireless charging smartphones will charge at a 5W charging speed.

DC Ports

The one other direct charging method is the two DC ports. Each of the ports has a 12V/3A charging speed. These two ports can charge laptops with the right connection; you can also use them to power appliances powered through a DC port.

12Volt Outlet:

The 12Volt output can be quite a useful port if you want to power appliances to use it. For example, we could use an air tire pressure pump with the 12Volt outlet, and it worked perfectly.

AC Outlets:

The main highlight of this AC50 portable power station is the two AC Outlets. First off, there are two AC outlets. Most power stations have a single AC outlet, so for this one to have two, you’re able to power two appliances at once. Another thing, each of the AC outlets is 3-prong designed so that you can connect three-pronged power cables to them.

The main thing to know is that the collective power output of the two AC outlets is 300W. Quite a bit of power, considering that this is a portable device that you can take anywhere with you. With this much power, you’re able to power appliances that have a bit more power, such as larger fans or heaters; you can also power monitors with it, a CPAP machine, laptop chargers, and anything else that fits into the 300W range.

We can’t stress enough just how useful it is to have two AC outlets, though, because this is a portable power source that you can take practically anywhere, and so being able to power your electronic devices while you’re out camping or hiking can be a game-changer.

Input Charging:

For recharging the power station, you can only recharge it through the single DC input port, but you can do it in three different ways.

The fastest way to recharge the power station is to use the AC charging adapter, as the AC charger can recharge the power station at 90W and recharge it to full power within about 4-5 hours.

The other two options are to either use the car charger adapter or the solar charger adapter. If you want to get the fastest recharge speed from the solar adapter, you can connect it to a 120W solar panel. Recharging from the Solar charger or the car charger can take about 5-6 hours. Solar recharging can vary, though, because sunlight exposure can change constantly depending on the weather, but it can also be the most helpful if you’re deep in the wilderness.

No matter what recharging method you’re using, if you’re on the move with this AC50 power station, it can be important to be sure you have all options for recharging it.

Design

Size and Weight:

With its humongous power capacity and multiple ways it’s able to power your appliances and charge your devices, this power station, like many, is quite large. This isn’t exactly an everyday portable charger that you would take with you to the coffee shop or the office, but at the same time, it could be if you wanted to.

The AC50 is quite large and heavy, but at the same time, the portability is manageable depending on how much you want to be portable with it. It has a length of 11 inches, width/depth of about 7.5 inches. The weight of the portable power station is 13 pounds.

So it’s quite a large one, and to accommodate the large size and heavyweight, this power station uses two handles at the top. The main way to hold the power station is holding it any other way would be cumbersome. So, this is not the type of portable power source you hold for a long time, just like most power stations. You can, however, easily carry it to a certain location and use it at that specified location because holding 13 pounds for a long time might not sound like a lot, but it can weigh you down after a while.

Functional Components:

Using this MAXOAK portable power station is easy and a blast to use. At the front, you have all your charging ports and power ports, like the AC outlets.

Also at the front is where you’ll find the power buttons to turn on certain parts of the power station and an LCD that shows how much power is left for the power station and the power output in watts for the DC and AC outputs, and the input watt power, too.

The battery display is shown in 20% increments.

As for the power buttons, the first power button is used to turn on the power station; this turns on the power station and allows you to use the flashlight that can be found on the opposite side of the power station. The flashlight has three modes, high, low, and SOS.

You have to turn on either the DC button or the AC button to use the power station. Turning the DC button on, you will activate the USB charging ports wireless charging, the DC ports, and the 12Volt output.

The AC button will, of course, turn on the two AC outlets.

The great thing about the power buttons is that each of them has a green LED light next to them to show which one is on and off. To turn off each section, you can hold the power button down again.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this MAXOAK power station is amazing. Each part of the MAXOAK power station is built precisely, and each of the ports holds securely to whatever cable you input into them.

The power station has a rubber material on the colored part, which can potentially protect it from getting damaged in the event of a drop. The other parts of the power station are made of plastic. There is no Aluminum on this power station, and we think that’s for the best, as it would make the power station heavier.

Tech:

With all of its ports and AC outlets, you would think that this power station can overheat, but we didn’t find it to overheat at all. If you’re putting it through its paces, there are two large vent hole areas to the right and left, and there is a small fan that turns on if you’re using a certain amount of power. Those are the two reasons it doesn’t overheat; that said, we’re reviewing this in winter, so using it in hotter weather may change things.

Reliability

This is going to be one of the most reliable portable power stations that you can own. Not just on the powering side or the ports that it features, but also because of its size and weight. If you want more power, like a higher power capacity or more AC outlets with more power, then you’re going to end up with a larger power station. Something larger than this AC50 can prove tremendously difficult to be portable with.

In terms of portability, this AC50 hits the sweet spot with its weight, size, and use of handles, making it easier to carry around.

The power capacity is plentiful, especially if you’re using it to charge smartphones and tablets. The use of a 45W USB-C Power Delivery port is very welcome as there are a ton of PD compatible devices out now.

You also have quite a few choices to power appliances with the DC ports, 12Volt outlet and big reason to get this power station, the two AC outlets. The AC outlets are the things that stand out, and it’s a highly reliable feature to be able to power appliances with them.

One other thing that is reliable is that this power station comes with an AC adapter, car adapter, and solar adapter to recharge the AC50. It also comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. It truly brings the whole package.

Summary:

Power:

The power is there with a 500Wh power capacity that can potentially last for days or weeks. You get tons of charging options, from USB-A ports to a USB-C Power Delivery port. There are also DC ports, a 12Volt output, and two AC outlets.

Design:

It’s a large size power source and a heavy one, too. However, it’s all manageable using two handles that make it easier to carry around. It’s also an easy power source to use with the touch of a few buttons, and the LCD is a great feature to take a look at what’s happening in real-time.

Build:

This may not be a waterproof power source, but it’s built very well. The rubber material around the power station can prevent damage in the event of a fall, and the heating vent and fan inside the power station can prevent overheating.

Reliability:

This MAXOAK power station brings the whole package and places a cherry on top by providing all the adapters you need for recharging it and a USB-C PD cable.
