Portable power stations can be one of the most useful portable devices that you can own, however, they may also be the type of devices that you might only use occasionally. This is mostly because of their larger sizes and heavyweight. This is especially true when it comes to portable power stations that have absurdly high power capacities and are capable of high outputs of power.

This MAXOAK EB150 1500Wh portable power station is one of those higher-end power stations. It could be the type of power source that you can rely on daily and it’s going to be a lifesaver if you ever need it in an emergency. Let’s take a closer look to see why that is.

Power

Power Capacity:

This EB150 power station does not have the capacity of a regular power bank, instead, it’s like having twenty 20,000mAh power banks placed into one charger. That said, there are two power capacities that you’re able to use with this power station depending on how you’re using it.

Overall, the EB150 has a 1500Wh power capacity, however, if you are using the power station with its USB ports that offer a 3.7V output versus its DC and AC outputs that can use 14.8V from its batteries, then you’re going to be able to use two different power capacities levels.

In terms of Mili Amp Hours (mAh), if you’re using the regular USB-A ports on this power station, we’ve calculated how much it would be below.

1500Wh * 1000 / 3.7V = 405,405mAh

405,405mAh is a ton of power to use, and as we mentioned before this is equivalent to having about twenty 20,000mAh power banks combined. Of course, it’s important to remember that this power capacity is only used for when you’re using the USB-A port and possibly the USB-C Power Delivery port on this power station.

This is because slower charging speeds have better conversion rates for batteries during charging as less heat is produced. So if you’re charging a smartphone like the new Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, or the S20 Ultra that has the large 5,000mAh battery, you charge the smartphone about eighty times with this power station.

So having multiple phones charged to full power if you’re electricity every goes out would be no problem with this MAXOAK power station.

Alright, but what about when it comes to using the DC port, the AC outlet and the USB-C Power Delivery port at a higher power output. MAXOAK mentions that the batteries can also be used at a 14.8V power output.

1500Wh * 1000 / 14.8V = 101,351mAh

So, if you’re using the power station with the USB-C Power Delivery port, the DC port, or the AC outlet, you can expect to use about 101,351mAh. This is substantially lower than the power capacity with a 3.7V power output being used, but at the same time, it’s still a lot of power that can be used to charge laptops many times to their full power, and power appliances for hours depending on the wattage power.

EB150 and EB240:

Output Charging:

The power capacity of this MAXOAK EB150 is impressive, but the options that you have with how to use it match its insanely high power capacity.

USB Ports and USB-C Power Delivery Port:

There are a total of four USB-A ports on this power station, and there are two pairs. Each pair has a max output of 3 Amps (15W) and each port is capable of outputting 5V/2.4A (12W). None of the USB-A ports use Quick Charge, so you won’t be able to fast charge your Android smartphone with any of them, that said, a 12W charging speed isn’t too bad considering that you have four ports to use at the same time.

However, the lack of fast charging with the USB-A ports might be made up because of the USB-C Power Delivery port that has a 45W charging speed.

Most Android smartphones are Power Delivery compatible, and so are newer iPhones from the iPhone X, iPhone 8 to the current iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.  With its 45W Power Delivery charging speed, the PD port on this power station is going to be most helpful for charging USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptops.

Most notably, USB-C MacBooks will be able to either charge at their max charging speed or near their max speed with the 45W PD port. The 2020 MacBook Air has a 30W max charging speed, so the Power Delivery port on this power station will be able to charge it at its max speed. There are also many other USB-C laptops such as Chromebooks, Microsft Surface laptops, and Surface Pro laptops, and many others that use USB-C ports for charging.

So the USB-C Power Delivery port on this EB150 power station can easily be the most useful output on a portable power source.

12V Car Port

The DC carport on this power station can be helpful if you have an appliance that can be plugged into the port. That said, many people don’t have appliances that can be used with this port, but to give you an idea of what appliance you could use it with would be a portable tire pressure pump.

Many tire pressure pumps use a DC car plug, and can be powered from the DC port on this power station.

Two 1000W AC Outlets:

Possibly the most useful part of this power station are the two AC outlets that share a 1000W power output. Portable power stations are known to use AC outlets, that’s really what makes these “power stations” in the first place, however, this EB150’s use of two AC outlets with 1000W of power places it in a league of its own.

To top it all off, each of the two outlets accepts three-prong AC adapters. Just one thing that we thought we would repeat is that the two AC outlets SHARE the 1000W of power.

Even with a 1000W shareable power output, you have a lot of flexibility, as you can power a drill with an AC outlet for when you’re working on a project in your garage, or outside in your backyard. This way, you don’t have to run a cable from inside your home, and instead, you have a power station right beside you.

You can potentially use an AC outlet to power a DC laptop charger or an even more powerful Power Delivery charger than the 45W USB-C PD port that the power station already has. At the same time, you have connected a mini-fridge to be powered from the other AC outlet.

It’s just a matter of knowing what appliance fits under the 1000W umbrella, which is a wide range of devices.

Input Charging:

Alright, so with a massive 1500Wh power capacity there are two relatively fast ways to recharge this power station. One main way to recharge it would be with the AC adapter that the power station comes with, and the other is with Solar panels.

The power station does not come with Solar panels, however, it does come with a Solar charging cable adapter that you would use to connect to Solar panels and recharge the power station.

The AC adapter can recharge the power station at 160W, which can get it to full power within nine to ten hours.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of the EB150 power station is large and the weight is heavy, but this is to be expected from any power station with a 1500Wh power capacity and all of its output options.

So the power station has a length of 14.6 inches, a width of 14.4 inches, and a depth of 6.5 inches. The weight of the unit is about 38 pounds. The power station is large and heavy, and you’re not going to be able to hold for a long duration of time. It’s more of a power source that you would carry and place in a single spot and use it there.

Thankfully, when you do need to carry it around, the unit has a large handle a the top, and we recommend that you use your legs to lift it first.

Even though the power station is heavy and larger than most other power stations on the market, it’s still easily storable in the closet and you can still place it in a car if you want to travel with it. However, you cannot take this power station on an airplane as the power capacity is way over the limit that the TSA would allow.

Functional Components:

Using the power station is simple, but there are a few things to know.

The unit uses a digital display that shows how much remaining power capacity there is to use with a battery logo that has five segments. To the right of the battery logo is where there is a Wattage input meter that tells you how much power is going into the power station when you’re recharging it.

The other two wattage meters are for the DC output and the AC output. The “DC” meter accounts for the USB-A ports, USB-C Power Delivery port, and the DC carport. The “AC” meter, of course, accounts for the output of the two AC outlets.

The digital display makes for a great tool to keep track of how much power you’re using so you don’t go over the 1000W max power limit of the power station and having it turn off automatically.

To turn the unit on there are three buttons left to the display, with the top button being the power button to turn it on. Just something to note, you have to hold each power button down for a few seconds.

The next button is for the DC outputs and the bottom button is to turn on the AC outlets.

Build

Structure and Material:

Even though this power station is basically a power source that you would use in the outdoors and it’s built well, it’s not exactly a rugged device. It does not have waterproofing and it is not shockproof.

So we highly recommend that you place it on a stable surface where it will not drop, and don’t expose it to water.

With that said, the EB150 power station is built with a body structure that is tough and won’t come apart because it’s held together by multiple screws. The charging ports are also done well, especially the AC outlets as they hang on tight to appliances that you connect to them.

Tech:

With the use of two AC outlets, and the ability to output 1000W of power, this MAXOAK EB150 power station uses a fan that turns on whenever the power station exceeds the output of 400W. There is a vent where you can feel the air being pushed out from and the sound of the fan is quite loud.

The digital display has a backlight that stays on and then turns off, but it can be turned on again by pressing the power buttons. When it comes to the Wattage readings on the display they update nearly real-time with what the appliance is doing, so if you have a heater or fan connected and place it on a higher setting, the display will reflect that with a higher wattage amount nearly instantly.

Reliability

A portable power station with a 1500Wh power capacity, two AC outlets with a 1000W max output, and additional USB ports is going going to be reliable. Of course, you won’t bee able to power everything that you would with a regular AC outlet in your home, 1000W of power is a lot more than what many other portable power stations can offer.

The only unreliable part that is obvious would be the heavyweight of this power station, but the large handle at the top makes it easier to carry.

Summary:

Power:

There’s enough power capacity to charge smartphones about eighty or more times, even if you’re using this power station to charge a laptop, you’re looking at weeks of the power station lasting with a single full charge.

The power output is also impressive with the power station using four standard USB-A ports, a 45W USB-C Power Delivery, a DC carport (although it’s questionable if this would be used by most), and two AC outlets that are capable of outputting 1000W of power combined.

Design:

It’s a large and heavy power station, which is to be expected with its insanely high power capacity. The 32-pound power source is easier to carry with its large handle, though.

Even with tons of power, the EB150 is also simple to use with three power buttons and a digital display that tells you real-time what the input power and output power are doing.

Build:

It’s not a rugged device, meaning the power station does not have any water-resistance or shock proofing. It is built well, and you can use it often without having to worry about anything breaking apart.

Reliability:

A power station is going to reliable almost no matter what, and this EB150 with its 1500Wh power capacity and 1000W output from two AC outlets is reliable than most others.
